New PTC councilman-elect sees Brown as carrying ‘voice of the customer’

By: Letters to the ...

I want to thank you for your support on Dec. 4 and I am looking forward to serving you as your new Post 2 councilman.

I want to thank Mike King for running an up-front, issue-oriented, friendly campaign. He is a valued citizen and his stewardship will serve PTC for years to come.

We have many issues facing PTC — the cart path issue, the comprehensive land use plan, ordinance issues and others. The list is long, but we can work on them one by one. In order to keep PTC the city that we want it to be, we must address these issues head-up and work as a team to solve these issues.

As I stated early last month, you are the ones that make this system go. Together we can do great things for our city.

Thank you for your support and trust. I look forward to the opportunity afforded me as your new councilman.

The special election is coming up over the next few weeks and people are very interested in the outcome as to who will represent our area. The issues of growth, major transportation initiatives and regional planning are taking position to be ones of concerns for the next decade.

Voice of the customer is important. The people we elect must listen to our needs and put those decisions in place. We should place people in our state position who will work with the people of District 72 to protect our way of life.

We need a person at state who will work with us and take a stand on positions that benefit the citizens. Financial standings are not important. What is important is that the individual selected understands the need of the citizens and will support that position on the state level.

Steve Brown will work for the common people. Whether one accepts Steve’s opinion’s or not, he does look at issues in depth and will take a stand. His concerns are with the people of District 72 and when issues arise, he will address those concerns in detail.

He has come out and presented his agenda to the people for review and/or criticism. I am endorsing Steve Brown after looking at his agenda and comparing it to the other candidates’ positions.

Our recent election here in PTC was run on issues. The District 72 election should be run on the same forum. Challenge your candidates to take a position and come out and speak on the topics that affect our area.

This election is important to our area. Please come out and vote for the candidate that will represent your needs and can further put the voice of the customer back into the people’s hands.

Thank you and please vote.

Doug Sturbaum

Post 2 Councilman-elect

Peachtree City, Ga.

Doug-

You haven't even warmed a seat on the city council yet and here you go endorsing a candidate for another race. Common sense should tell you being a newly elected candidate who has no political history in the city perhaps you should perhaps get yourself settled in before endorsing a candidate whose presence has been divisive in this town.

Many people who voted for you are the same ones who voted Brown out of office and still do not approve of his methods or viewpoints. You no sooner win an election than come out and endorse Steve Brown? I can't decide if this is disingenuous or just political naiveté. Regardless of the characterization, you've probably just alienated some of the very people who voted for YOU, not Brown.

Sturbaum's stunt reminds me of Hollywood elites who believe their celebrity status gives them the right to espouse their political views. Naive and self-centered. Right now is the time for Sturbaum, a young political newcomer, to sit down, shut up and listen. Nobody cares who you are endorsing.

From the other side of the tracks

To squash Sturbaum's endorsement. Nice try chump.

Hey ding-dong. Wasn't Sturbaum elected to be a voice for the majority of folks that elected him. Puzzled

Right now is the time for Sturbaum, a young political newcomer, to sit down, shut up and listen.

Did you really say that? Again, this guy was elected to work for and represent the fine folks of PTC, and you deny him the right to voice an opinion on who he thinks will best represent his constituents?

I suppose if we were in Iran you'd be one of the fools swinging the machete' down on his neck. Shocked

Nobody cares who you are endorsing.

I suspect his supporters might. Wouldn't you think?

It appears that you are the one that needs to shut up, crawl under the porch and take an nap.

Merry Christmas to you Other Side. Smiling

Well then, speaking for a group of at least four adults, myself and three others, who voted for Sturbaum, I can tell you his endorsing Steve Brown (or anyone for that matter), is troubling. I'm quite certain you wouldn't want to wager that we're the only four in Peachtree City.

Even a novice political observer can tell you it's risky to hold a seat and endorse another candidate, ESPECIALLY at a local level. See any other PTC Council members endorsing anyone? It's just not prudent for this exact reason: the people who elected you may not like the person you endorse.

I'm reminded strongly right now of the old but true wisdom: screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me.

The ultimate point here is that it's not prudent to endorse another local candidate- especially one as polarizing as Steve Brown.

Mr. Sturbaum was elected to be a LEADER for Peachtree City. Being a LEADER means taking a position on the issues of the day. What issue is any bigger than defeating a group of developers that want to make Peachtree City their "on ramp" to Billionaire Acres, while they route (an eventual) 50,000 people through PTC every day?!!

GO STEVE BROWN!! There are 4 votes in our home for you!!

Shame on you. Every one knows that Former Mayor Steve Brown will work very well with Council-Elect Members Mr. Sturbaum and Mr. Haddix. Git Real may be a bit coarse in his delivery, but he sure has Mr. Ramsey and his supporters figured out. I'm placing my trust in Steve Brown.

You're the scum layer of local politics. Read your blog again and guess who's polarizing.

He too has publicly endorsed Steve Brown. I received a letter in the mail the other day with Steve's positions on one side, and three endorsement letters on the other. They were from David Lakly, Don Haddix, and Doug Sturbaum.

Secret Squirrel is Nuts....Local pols endorse people all the time. You said "See any other PTC Council members endorsing anyone?" . Yeah--- Don Haddix endorsed Brown. So did Tyrone Mayor Elect Rendwall.

Are you telling me Randall Johnson has been "imprudent" endorsing commission and legislative candidates all these years?

You sound like Glenn Close. Did Steve Brown reject your advances or something? What gives?
