Man faces drug, computer porn charges A 34-year-old Marietta man arrested Wednesday in a Peachtree City Internet Task Force operation was hit with a $110,000 bond at his first appearance hearing in Fayette County Magistrate Court Thursday. Robert Scott Rankin was arrested at 3 p.m. in Peachtree City after exchanging electronic communication with a task force member who had posed as a 15-year-old female, according to Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray. Peachtree City Police said Rankin made contact with the undercover officer for the purpose of engaging in a sexual act. Rankin was charged with possession of methamphetamine and computer pornography and child exploitation in the incident. The residue found in a pipe in Rankin’s possession tested positive for methamphetamine, Murray said. Bond was set at $100,000 for the charge of computer pornography and child exploitation and $10,000 for possession of methamphetamine. Rankin’s preliminary hearing will be held Jan. 24. He is currently being held in Fayette County Jail. Murray said this was the twelfth task force arrest for computer crimes against children in the past 18 months. In another incident in Peachtree City, 36-year-old Letitia Garza was arrested near midnight Thursday morning as a result of a traffic stop when a golf cart in which she and a 15 year-old male were traveling was stopped for driving in the wrong direction with headlights off on Ga. Highway 54. Officers determined that Garza was wanted by Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation. Garza was also charged with with resisting an officer after making false statements. The 15-year-old male, who was the driver of the golf cart, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, according to reports. He was charged with driving a golf cart on a highway, resisting an officer and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to reports. login to post comments |
