The Fayette County Board of Education announced the workshop on elementary school lines has been changed from Dec.11 at 7 p.m. to Dec.13 at 8 a.m.
School spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach said the change was necessary because of the various board members' schedules.

Please remember that duly elected members of the BOE are not there to best serve the public that elected them. Their needs, convenience and desires come first - if not exclusively. Congrats BOE - you're becoming more and more like the circus across the Flint River. Anybody staying overnight in Atlanta soon? Try the ribs and cheesecake on room service. Hear it was a favorite with Clayton BOE members.

... hold the meeting in the morning so people will be at work or taking their kids to school and fewer people can attend.

Marion Keys is the one you can thank for that. Seems she couldn't make any of the evening meetings. I overheard her say at the meeting on Monday night that she didn't think she could be at any of them. I wonder if she'll actually show up.

The meeting has been changed to regular business hours...what is so wrong with that? The meetings have been going on until 9 or 10 at night...don't you think it would be nice for them to do them during the day? All of the BOE people would be available... It is a workshop...they are talking ond working on the maps...public input has already taken place. We are there only as ears and eyes... Naturally, you should want all of the elected officials present.

The meeting is a public meeting for the public to listen as they wish, so the meeting time should be offered when to majority of the public can listen if they would like. I would not question if I had not heard her say she can attend anytime and now she is requesting a change of meeting time. I don't believe the board member positions are a regular business hours job!

I think I remember her stating at the meeting that revealed the two maps to the board members that she is retired and can be available anytime, and Dr. Todd agreed with her that he is retired too and can be available. Now she can't be available in the evening??? Did she just get a new job that she works in the evenings???? She will be up for election next year, anyone that wants to run as a board memeber might want to run against her, because she probably will not be re-elected. Would be a easy run.

I would concentrate on Smola first - Marion Key was the one vote against Inman saying it was being built in the wrong place and would cause a mass disruption of kids. Seems she was right and everyone on this board agrees with her!!!!

No one except a nameless blogger has said the meeting was changed because of Marion Key. I doubt she had much to do with it. However, I would just take off, call in sick, or whatever, and go. If you feel that strongly, it's the only thing to do. My kid is older and I don't have a dog in this fight, but guys, the school is in the middle of no where, next to the county line! I would make them staff ..ALL.. the schools, not close one, and get the ratio of students to teacher down. It is an insult after they paid all that money for a new school to say they can close another and save money by not having to staff the old one. Get a grip! They are trying to not look so stupid! I don't doubt that the blogger saying MK is to blame might not be someone else on the board. Take the time off, go to the meeting, and then you can say to yourself, you have done everything you could....but...you need to really speak out against any new developemnt in your area. New developement means more kids displaced. If you don't speak up about it, you have no ground to stand on when they shuffle the kids.
