Sheriff's deputies are still looking for six men who coordinated a smash-and-grab burglary at Autrey's Armory gun shop in north Fayette County early Wednesday morning. Earlier reports that four of the suspects were arrested in Clayton County turned out to be false, police officials said, as those four were arrested for another agency's case. After using a stolen truck to pull off the burglar bars and front door around 4 a.m., six black males burst inside and systematically stole 75-80 weapons, mostly Sig Sauer and Glock pistols, deputies said. The suspects also took a Springfield semi-automatic .308 rifle with a bipod and collapsible stock, deputies said. Most of the pistols did not have magazines, and deputies are asking the public to report any bulk purchases of Glock or Sig Sauer magazines immediately. The guns have been entered into the Georgia Crime Information Center database, deputies said. The theft was very well-planned, deputies indicated, as each of the six men had a specific job to do, as shown by the video released by the sheriff's department. The thieves collected some of the guns in a large blue trash can and used red bolt cutters to cut the cables securing the rifles. Autrey's Armory is located off Ga. Highway 314 near Roberts Road. One of the men was wearing red pants, one was wearing what may have been a Pittsburgh Steelers jacket and another one appeared to be larger that 200 pounds. The stolen truck used in the heist was a 1993 burgandy Chevy 1500 pickup that had been stolen from Norman Drive in Clayton County an hour before the break-in, police said. The video also shows smoke obscuring the view, indicating that perhaps the burglars set off a smoke bomb to cover their tracks. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Josh Shelton at 770-716-4777. login to post comments |
