Supporters for Ramsey

By: Letters to the ...

It is not every day that you can get six former mayors to see eye to eye, but on this one issue we all agree: Matt Ramsey is the right man to represent Fayette County in the General Assembly.

We are united behind Matt’s candidacy because we know Matt to be a man of integrity, vision, and dedication to conservative values.

Georgia, and our region in particular, faces daunting challenges that cannot be ignored, and working people need to have confidence that an honest man is working hard for them in the legislature.

The problems are plain for all to see. Metro Atlanta is being brought to its knees by traffic congestion. Fayette County’s schools are the best in the state but face the constant threat of state and federal interference. Most urgently, Georgia is facing a water crisis.

Yet leadership requires more than just the recognition of difficulty. When the voters go to the polls Dec. 18, they will be choosing the person they feel is best qualified to deliver solutions.

There can be no question about Matt’s qualifications or his ability to get things done in the legislature. Matt spent six years working for Congressman Mac Collins, both in Washington, D.C., and in Georgia. He has also spent significant time working on staff in the Georgia House of Representatives and the Georgia Senate.

He knows the process and he knows the people. More importantly, Matt is a consensus builder. The strength of his convictions do not diminish his ability to forge compromise.

We cannot overstate how imperative it is that our representative be able to work well with the other 179 members of the Georgia House. Fayette County needs someone that understands, as Matt does, that courtesy and civility are prerequisites of successful statesmanship.

The citizens of Fayette County also need to take care to elect someone that shares their values. Matt, a life-long native of Fayette County, is a family man whose character will reflect highly upon our community.

His political philosophy is based on conservative principles: local control, limited government, and lower taxes.

As former mayors, we are quite familiar with the state’s nasty habit of trying to tell us what to do, and we are sure that present and future mayors will appreciate Matt’s commitment to protecting local prerogatives.

We are proud to throw our support behind a decent man who is running a positive campaign based on an optimistic agenda for the future of our community — and we are sure the voters will appreciate that.

It is going to take strong leadership to bring about the reforms that are needed in Atlanta. We need a workhorse, not a showhorse, and we know Matt fits the bill.

After all, if he can get these six former mayors of Peachtree City to agree on something, 179 kicking and screaming Republicans and Democrats should be no problem.

Frederick Brown, Jr., former mayor, Peachtree City

J.K. “Chip” Conner, former mayor, Peachtree City

Joel Cowan, Sr., former mayor, Peachtree City

Herb Frady, former mayor, Peachtree City

Ralph Jones, former mayor, Peachtree City

Robert Lenox, former mayor, Peachtree City, Ga.

__________

I want to express my appreciation and support to Matt Ramsey for offering his candidacy to fill the unexpired term of Rep. Dan Lakly.

Dan was a friend, patriot, and representative of the people for all the right reasons. His work for the people of Fayette County and Georgia will be missed.

I have the same confidence in Matt Ramsey as a representative in the Georgia General Assembly as I had in him as a member of my staff in Washington and in Georgia. Such confidence stemmed from Matt’s work on requests from constituents, legislation, and the respect he displayed for the people whom we represented.

During the 12 years I was in the Congress representing the Third District of Georgia which included Fayette County, I had a lot of staff, some worked for a short period of time, others stayed for several years and most were very good at their job. Matt was with me for six years and I rank his work among the best.

Matt has very good work ethic; courteous, listens well, researches thoroughly, and responds to the needs of the question at hand. His response was always straight-forward and he wanted to be sure I had all the information on the subject in question.

Matt’s faith in God, love for family, conservative convictions and respect for our republic was with him during his service to the people I represented and I am confident those same principles will follow him as a candidate and as a state representative.

For these reasons, I have agreed to co-chair Matt’s campaign and I encourage you to support him for state representative.

Mac Collins

Flovilla, Ga.

It was pointed out earlier today the support from these less than stable sources really doesn't say a whole lot.

Did anybody notice Ramsey didn't receive any support from regular citizen leaders? Shouldn't that be a sign?

I think you got your answer tonight. 1,925 " regular citizen leaders" spoke resoundingly today in favor of Representative-elect Matt Ramsey. Boy, I love saying that, "Representative-elect Matt Ramsey" Smiling.

Sure, we should listen to those bums when it comes to what's good for our community.

Bob Lenox is a total joke. Did he build his own house a friend's landfill or was it just our police station? He's costing us millions of dollars.

Joel Cowan is the most liberal person in Fayette County and one of the biggest names in elite Democratic circles. The pro-choice, tax and spend former mayor doesn't seem to have any problems selling his local property to big box retailers making some dough on our backs. All of us taking time away from our families and friends to fight the big box and sale of city property have Joel Cowan to thank.

The men who saw eye to eye and gave us Harold Logsdon want to take us further down the trail of destruction. NO THANKS!

The Georgia Right To Life Amendment is the most important issue to me in the General Assembly. You are right that developer Joel Cowan, Ramsey supporter, has been with the liberal pro-choice Democrats. I looked at Ramsey's website--- no mention at all.

I looked at all the candidates letters for 2 weeks. Ramsey says nothing. I assume that Madden the Democrat and Beckler the woman's rights advocate favor abortion. Steve Brown is the only candidate that openly supports the "sanctity of life" as did Dan Lakly who was endorsed by the Georgia Right to Life.

This is an issue that I will be watching closely.

I received a mailpiece from Matt Ramsey that said:

“As a husband and father of two young children, I will protect our conservative values. I’m Pro-Life and will fight to protect the unborn and the sanctity of marriage”

I called the number on the mailpiece, left a message and got a call back from ramsey within the hour. i asked him about his Pro-Life stance and am satisfied that he is 100% Pro-Life.

Hey ProLifer...I got the same mailer from Ramsey so I can confirm this as well.

That's about as important as Ramsey liking Pepsi.

Well, to some of us, that is a very important issue, and it isn't trivial like someone's beverage choice. I'm certainly not a "one issue" voter, but this does make a difference in my decision.

That someone is Pro-Life or Pro-Choice or neither, just how does that factor into selecting the right candidate?

As abeautifulday4us pointed out, it was a legitimate question at the forum because the Human Life Amendment is coming up so we should know how our elected representative would vote. It's a voting issue -- not a personal preference issue.

"I'm certainly not a "one issue" voter, but this does make a difference in my decision."

If this one issue makes a difference in your decision then you are of "one issue" voter.

One of the many problems I have with the 'Human Life Amendment' that's coming up is that several legislators have expanded on the core issue of abortion and included the 'Right to Die' in their various versions of the bill.

The Burke Amendment
Introduced by James Burke on September 12, 1973, under HJ 769.

Section 1. With respect to the right to life, the word 'person,' as used in this article and in the fifth and fourteenth articles of amendment to the Constitution of the United States, applies to all human beings, including their unborn offspring at every stage of their biological development, irrespective of age, health, function, or condition of dependency.

The idea that the state wants to insert it's control over an individual's rights is appalling to me.

I've told my children many times, when I start to drool, it's time to take up skydiving.

The 'Human Life Amendment' bill does NOT take into account rape, incest or the well being of the mother. It simply makes any form of abortion illegal.

Additionally, if a 'natural' abortion occurs the mother is now obligated to produce evidence that her actions didn't contribute to it. "Guilty until proven innocent", is that the American way?

Hatch Amendment
Introduced by Sen. Orrin Hatch on September 21, 1981, under SJ 110.

"A right to abortion is not secured by this Constitution." "The Congress and the several States shall have the concurrent power to restrict and prohibit abortions: Provided, That a law of a State which is more restrictive than a law of Congress shall govern."

Now it should take an act of Congress to decide if a mothers life is in jeopardy?

Does the name "Terri Schiavo" ring a bell for you?

I would ask that you do a little research on the subject before you use it as a deciding factor in your voting preference.

"Tax me into the stone age but stay out of a womans vagina!"

I fully understand that most elected officials would have a hard time following that directive.

What does that have to do with anything concerning this race?

That's about as important as Ramsey liking Pepsi.

Do you have any evidence that the other candidates aren't Pro-Life?

Why don't you tell us how much money Ramsey gives to his church, the one he put campaign songs on? Does it matter?

Why should we care?

Kevin Madden isn't what is commonly described as "pro-life," he's pro-choice. Someone must have thought it was an issue as it was one of the questions in the candidate forum last week.

That it was asked at the candidate forum gives it no creditability.

That's about as valid as saying TDK has been on the books for over ten years. That in and of itself doesn't make it a good thing.

Is it a requirement of representing citizens in the state legislature?

Should we only vote for right handed people?

If an employee wears a blue shirt on Tuesdays can I fire them?

That someone is Pro-Life or Pro-Choice or neither, just how does that factor into selecting the right candidate?

To others, it sure does. There was another discussion a few days ago on this topic. For some, it's the ONLY issue that matters.

Former mayor Steve Brown is a pro-life advocate, but he's very active in promoting better lives for all around him. I know for a fact he was always going to Oak Grove Elementary and working with children in math and reading programs. He also had a heart for senior citizens and helped many of them when they needed a hand.

You former mayors are united about a lot more than Matt Ramsey's candidacy and none of it is good for Fayette County either.

The same supporters and issues from the Harold Logsdon debacle. Once burned, twice learned.

Vote Republican
