Truth on TDK: a non-issue for now

the_assassin's picture

Here's the real answer about TDK's destiny (not to be confused with Get Real's obfuscation):

PTC voted to abandon construction. County voted to release the funds (i.e. there's no money).

And pay attention, THIS IS IMPORTANT: After 2 more years the right-of-way reverts back to the ownership of Pathway Communities. That private company holds the key to any potential future to TDK.

If Seabaugh is indeed on a warpath to build TDK, he'll make sure the Coweta state roads get widened pronto. Be on the lookout for that first.

Git Real: yesterday you said it would cost the city $2 million to abandon TDK but you failed to back it up on your link. The minutes from the council meeting had no such reference. Could you point me in the right direction 4 that info?

for anyone who questions the reasonability of building TDK...drive to the end of the existing road, stand there and look out toward Coweta County...then come back and tell me how extending that road would benefit anyone (other than the developers) in Fayette County. I'll wait here for you. Keep the faith.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

But that area in Coweta will be developed, thankfully later, due to Coweta's WILD zoning counting on mainly TDK for access. They blew it, that for sure and I'm thankful they did.

My main question remains, what do we have planned to upgrade Hwy 54 and Rockaway?

Submitted by Jones on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 6:34pm.

Cyndi Plunkett said Rockaway was coming on the heels of the Highway 74 stuff going on now. Wouldn't the developers of those new projects have to straighten the road since they are on both sides of it?

What's the number?

Submitted by Jones on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 6:05pm.

I truly believe holding TDK off will lessen the development on the Coweta side. Look at how Lowe's backed out at TDK because the road was halted.

You have to admit, there's not a whole lot going on over on the Coweta side right now. You've got to know Mitch Seabaugh is going to do whatever he can to get the road built and Matt Ramsey is Seabaugh's boy.

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 6:19pm.

I just wonder if I'm the only one who thinks Rockaway and Hwy 54 need to be upgraded if these are to be the only two "choke points" going to/fro from Coweta to Fayette.

I did agree with holding off on TDK, when Coweta announced their plans. I don't know anyone who didn't.

Submitted by Jones on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 6:26pm.

Rockaway has to straightened because people are going to die over there.

I would say don't even lift a finger for TDK until you see what they're up to on the other side. The Coweta commissioners are nuts to have approved that big deal on Fisher Road. They are creating their own bottlenecks.

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 11:22am.

That is a LONG way, and anybody who thinks that Hwy 54 won't become one big logjam of cars if it is the ONLY crossing over Line Creek between the two roads mentioned above, is only fooling themselves.

I'm not sure when it will be built, but if it is not built within the next 10-15 years, you will need a helicopter to get over Line Creek. That's my humble opinion.

It was me that posted, not Git Real.

As for the money, this is how it goes.

If the road to the PCDC property isn't built, the land reverts back.

That means that PCDC will get back the land it sold to the golf course.

The gold course will get back the land it sold to the Airport Authority.

Since the FAA grant money was specifically for the purchase of the land to extend the safety area it can't be used for anything else it will have to be returned to the FAA.

The Airport Authority is a separate legal entity from PTC.

If PTC doesn't build a road to the PCDC property within 3 years form the closing date the whole deal blows up and the Airport Authority has to repay the $2 mil. to the FAA.

As the Airport Authority has already spent the money, the golf course has already begun to create the two new golf holes, the Airport can and will sue PTC to recover its losses, as they should.

Therefore the taxpayers of PTC will be on the hook for the $2 mil.

Hence the perverted land sale deal that PTC was not even made aware of until the 11 hour.

Your boy Ramsey and his cohorts knew all about this and tried to hide it form the PTC city council.

Additionally, as several on here have mentioned, your boy Ramsey won’t take a stand on the TDK issue. Since Steve Brown has taken a stand and his position is in line with the majority of PTC citizens, he gets the vote.

Any questions?

Except it will cost the taxpayers, not the Airport "Authority" twice as much as did the Tennis Center!

These Authorities are toys for the lawyers and the developers.
A way to raise taxes without raising taxes! Same as Bush borrows from China, which we owe, but doesn't "raise taxes."
Con men galore!
What did the airport authority spend the two million on, by the way?
Same thing as the Tennis Center, maybe?

Submitted by Bonkers on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 6:53pm.

Who are the members and the lawyers now on all of our "authorities?"
And, if they are set up so as to pay for themselves and not hold the city responsible, why does the city always have to pick up the bill for their failures?
I think maybe some are "planned" failures!

Here's an interesting hypothesis: Dollar has twelve aliases rather than just four. He demonstrates his subtlety on the other eight, so that it is not obvious to the rest of us. (Who would have guessed that Git, Jeffc, bpr and the now defunct basmati are all the same person} Eye-wink Of course, with the current four--dollar, nitpickers, smith and bonkers--it is more than obvious.

Still friends.

Surely you've noticed posts by dollaradayandfound???? Smiling

He's our resident "nut" who posts, to put is politely, random thoughts multiple times a day. Lately he's been posting under the names d.smith700, Bonkers, nitpickers, and maybe some others. He loves to answer his own posts and usually uses one of his aliases to add comments. Look up these names under the section RECENT BLOG POSTS to see what this grumpy old man grumbles about daily! Laughing out loud

I don't even agree with most of what these other posters you mention say!
I have always considered you and hutch and Cyclist and mud as one and the same.
One only needs to read one of those names to have the whole story.
Also, I am not a grumpy old man. Just because you are a post 50 (I think)set-in-her ways type, doesn't mean everyone else is, who disagree with your splashing of a thousand internuts opinions around on here!
My thoughts may be random, but they are not internet ramblings and impossible to decipher.
Some of us simply can communicate and are open-minded. Others will go to any extreme to complicate the subjects at hand.

How many lanes can we add to Hwy 54 West and how quick? IF we aren't building TDK, I recommend at least 4 in each direction over the new bridge. How about widening Rockaway? If we don't do this, we will have gridlock sooner than later. I'm all for listening to options, but I do not think doing nothing is the right answer for access over Line Creek.

I fully realize some think TDK is enabling Coweta, and developers, but I'm thinking of PTC Residents and how to get some relief from the traffic/gridlock that is sure to come if we sit and twiddle our thumbs.

Submitted by TTT on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 11:24am.

Your assertion is false. If TDK gets built or not (and it's not), the money isn't going to have to be paid back. If you don't believe me, call someone on the airport authority and ask them.

City Council of Peachtree City, Minutes of Meeting, June 15, 2006

“Cobb showed a map of the proposed TDK extension realignment. He said the PCAA had contributed $10,000 to the City in 2004 for engineering to get the project moving. Since then the PCAA had spent another $20,000 in fees and appraisal costs and planned to spend another $50,000 in non reimbursable funds. He said the airport had obtained approval for a $2 million grant to re-route the road and relocate two holes on Planterra Golf Course to preserve safe airport operations. The only way to get the money was to move the holes out of the runway safety area. In close coordination with the City a Memorandum of Understanding MOD was developed and presented to all parties on May 6 2006. The parties involved included the City Pathway Communities Sequoia Golf Fayette County and the FAA. The grant would be lost if the MOU was not executed by July 31 2006. If that grant fell through there were no assurances that the City would get the funding back.”

Further along in the document:

“Kourajian asked if airport property abutted the Planterra Golf Course. Cobb said yes. Kourajian asked if there had to be an agreement with Sequoia Golf to get the road. Cobb said the $2 million was available “only if” the runway safety area was clear. Cobb said the airport could only buy the land where the two holes were currently located. Sequoia would have to buy the land to move the holes to.”

And then later on in the document:

“Cobb said that was the purpose in getting the grant funds. He reiterated that the funds were only available if the road was moved out of the runway safety area.

TTT, are you saying Cobb not being totally honest with us?

Submitted by TTT on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 4:15pm.

Nothing above states the PCAA (or the city) would have to give the money back if the road wasn't built.

"Cobb said the $2 million was available “only if” the runway safety area was clear." The area is now clear, so why would the FAA care if the road was built?

bad_ptc's picture
Submitted by bad_ptc on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 5:00pm.

If the road doesn't get built, the Airport Authority looses the land.

Submitted by TTT on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 5:13pm.

A member of the PCAA doesn't either. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Time will tell who is correct. Nothing in the minutes you have posted supports your theory.

Right now TDK is dead. Matt Ramsey, or any of the candidates for that matter, can force PTC to build TDK. I hope the many folks who read these blogs can see through the campign rhetoric. Have a good evening, bad_ptc.

"Abandon" ? "Release" ? Wow, Assassin, it looks like the English language is your first recorded kill. You are the Carlos Hathcock of linguistics.

Council put TDK on hold. They did not kill it. Stuart has surfaced out of his coma to grandstand. This is only temporary. And even if they did, Seabaugh would hold a seance. And then he would introduce local legislation to make it happen. Why hasn't Logsdon ordered a traffic study? Why hasn't Ramsey said anything about this issue? Nada, nothing, nowhere. All we get in response is his ten minute old blogging personalities from Athens but no response from Matt. You wanna make these blogging boards quiet? Get Ramsey to agree absoultely that he will never support TDK in any way.

As Ramsey's vow of silence continues we voters have to think this--- If we can't get our hands on Harold right now then Ramsey will do just fine.

Submitted by TTT on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 7:44am.

He/she might be referring to the FAA money which was used to purchase land owned by Pathway so the 2 holes on Planterra Ridge could be moved. As I understand it, that land had to be purchased regardless of TDK, so they could extend a runway safety zone to allow larger jets to take off from Falcon field.

I'm not positive this is exactly what happened, but I don't believe they have to give the money back if TDK isn't built.
