Report: Seattle's gifted program favors whites

I'm proud to be identified as an American. This diversity issue got out of hand for me at birth when my government identified me as a negro-American. Heavens - I was hyphenated at birth! As long as we Americans place such importance on the difference of our skin color - this issue will continue to be contentious. I have observed progress in my lifetime with the diversity issue - but I feel that many mistakes have been made. An American should be just as proud of his diverse background as he is of his nationality.

Today the ‘white’ community is dealing with the issue of ‘reverse racism’. As a hyphenated American who achieved the American dream long before 'affirmative action', I was taught that I had to be better than the other guy to even be considered for a job. Today if an American feels that he/she is being discriminated against because of the color of their skin, they have legal recourse to achieve justice. If the person of color is 'better' than the person complaining of 'reverse racism' - the complainant will have to improve their skills and re-apply. I feel that this is the way our democracy should work.

The black community is dealing with the reality that they have lost at least two generations, possibly three, because of poor parenting skills and lack of community involvement with the youth . . not because of the white man. The black communities - as well as other minority communities are stressing education. Don't waste time and energy on discussing 'white guilt' - but be prepared to compete with qualified Americans of color for jobs in our country.

What's getting out of hand is the fact that whites who are high achievers are punished because some minorities cry racism when they do not excel in school or on the job. The article I posted was a perfect example.

Thanks for this. I've contracted to write a thing on this stuff in a couple of months. I'll have to look up Putnam's work.

Meanwhile, remember that all and only white people are racists. And if you disagree with that sage, Shakti Butler, then you not only are a bigot, but a fool.
