FCHS FOOTBALL
My family and I moved to Fayette County from out of state 4 years ago. My oldest son started 9th grade at Fayette County High School. He has played football since he was 7 yrs. old and I have personally coached him until he enterd "school ball". I explained to him at that point that if he wanted to start at a position it was all up to him. Hard work and determination no guaranteed playing time like in rec. ball.
He is now a senior @ FCHS and starts on the offensive line for the football team. I have gone through all of the hard times with him over the last three years and I have supported the football program unwavering every year. I have seen our guys progress every year, getting better and better until this year when it all finally clicked together.
We have always had great kids on the teams since I have lived here, but they never seemed to pull it all together in a complete game. This year it happened.
Coach Webb has taken this current group of seniors and taught them not only football, but how to persevere through struggles and keep your head high no matter what. Coach Webb and his staff are, in my opinion, the very best coaches I could have ever selected to teach my son not only the game of football but how to be a well rounded young man and succeed in life.
This year at FCHS FOOTBALL has been a record setting year: First ever undefeated reguar season; First ever region title; First ever win in state playoffs.
The FCHS TIGERS faced the Baldwin Bearcats this past Friday in the second round of the state play-offs. They did not win their game, but for those of us who had the privledge of watching that game will forever remember it as one of the greatest high school football games ever played. Our opponents and our Tigers played with determination, heart, tenacity, sportsmanship, and above all class. There were probably only 3 penalty flags thrown the entire game, and at the end of the night it came down to a few lucky bounces that have normally gone our way this year went to our opponent. Our players played until the final buzzer sounded and left everthing on the field. While they were not victorious on this particular night they are never going to have to look back and say "what if" they will always be able to look back and say "I gave it my very best."
As I said above, my son is a senior and that was the last game I'll be able to watch him play. If they had to lose that last game, it was lost with every player giving it his best We cannot ask anything more from anyone.
FCHS is losing a lot of seniors this year, but we have just as much talent returning as we lose and the future of FCHS FOOTBALL looks very good from where I sit. I will be in the stands next year rooting coaches and players on to another state title run
