A Fayette attorney seeking to fill the unexpired term of Ga. State Rep. Dan Lakly has signed two heavy political hitters to his campaign.

Matt Ramsey’s campaign will be co-chaired by former U.S. Congressman Mac Collins and widely-respected Peachtree City businessman Hollis Harris, who is the former president of Delta Air Lines and CEO of World Airways, which is headquartered in Peachtree City.

Ramsey worked as a staffer for Collins when he served in Congress. Although qualifying has not yet begun, Democrat Kevin Madden has announced he too will run for the seat in the 72nd district.

“When the General Assembly considers comprehensive tax reform in the coming year, the people of Fayette County would be well-served by someone with Matt’s legislative experience, know-how and commitment to limited government,” Collins said. “We need a state representative who works for Fayette’s citizens, not for special interests.”

Harris said that Ramsey is committed to restrained government “that will encourage economic growth in our community and our state.”

“Most important, Matt has the kind of integrity and commitment to maintaining Fayette County’s quality of life that we need representing us in the General Assembly,” Harris said.

Ramsey said he was flattered by Collins’ and Harris’ support.

“Hollis and Mac are both highly respected for their tremendously successful careers, but it is their integrity and commitment to our community that I most hope to emulate,” Ramsey said.

Hollis Harris is the guy who built his own little office tower in Kedron and moved his corporate headquarters (He was CEO of World Air) to it so he could rake in big bucks off of his employer.

Both Congress and the SEC began to investigate him and he jumped ship. Is Harris suggesting Matt Ramsey bilk the voters like he bilked the World Air shareholders?

I agree with Collins about a representative who works for the citizens, but it sure ain't Matt Ramsey.

Can you better explain “what part of Fayette County’s quality of life” you are referring to? Is it Riverdale, Fayetteville or???? If its either of these, I am not so sure that’s the continued quality we need or want to expand or grow.

it is funny that Mac Collins should mention politicians beholden to special interests. Kevin Madden's disclosure forms show that his campaign is largely self-financed. It will be VERY interesting to see Ramsey's disclosure form (or does he even have to file one for such a rapid special election?). I think that we will find that Ramsey is supported by the very development interests we have been struggling against for so long. The tale of the tape. Keep the faith.

Any damn fool can critique another person's performance. But only a few can perform, which in this case means run for office. Why not you? Why not now?

that the only way serve "the people" is through elective office? There are other ways. Such as getting involved with a political party and trying to change the debate. Such as becoming an advocate for citizens' rights. You are exactly right, though about "any damn fool" can criticize our elected officials...Limbaugh, Hannity, Boortz and Co. prove that every day. Keep the faith.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

There are many ways to serve "the people". Being a poli-criminal is one way....but not the best way....usually our elected officials cost us much more than what they are worth.

Police, fireman, all of our military, teachers, pilots, farmers, civil service people, air traffic controllers, nurses, Dr.s (when they feel like being helpful)....the list could go on forever.

it is just another example of how little these folks think of the voters of PTC. They feel they can run anybody out there as long as he has an "R" behind his name and the voters will come out in droves to vote for him, regardless of what he stands for or who supports him. They know what is best for us, even if we don't. Keep the faith.
