Blacktop dumping?

Peachtree Parkway looks like a tar and gravel dumping ground at the edges, from one end to the other!
I suppose they think they are preventing erosion but that doesn't work. Weeds grow through it and it crumbles since there is no base.
The standard practice is to fill with dirt and sow grass, I think.
Peachtree City is not as clean and neat as it once was. Codes aren't enforced, most roads are criss-crossed with black tar on sun bleached asphalt, One lake is dry, (maybe we need a well to keep it full?), the Tennis Center is a flop, the Amphitheater hires people on Medicare to perform and then allows disruptive behaviour, while only arresting the Town Manager.
The Police Station is built on a dump and is molding, we have scores of Realtors selling one house every six months. Apparently, our police Chief can not find anyone to hire to make the paths secure and will not cruise and apprehend high school students after school who are speeding, smoking dope, and in general being a pest!
Many of the older paths are now nearly defunct and too narrow--no runner or bicycler will use them any more.
We seem to concentrate on developing more and more buildings to bring in more taxes, while more and more stand empty or under-utilized.
Time for some leaders here also as well as Atlanta and Washington. D.C.

You have finally crossed the point of no return - "bicycler"? Remember that blog about “dumbing” down America?

A "noun" used as one who rides a bicycle!
Motorcycles are ridden by cyclists! Also, small boys and girls and women, often ride bicycles!

Well it seems you're correct for a change. Its really neat how English has changed form a 1900 usage of "bicycler" has evolved to "bicyclist". Are you that old?

Blues Traveler, Petwer Frampton etc. These are excellent, high quality acts that, in my opinion, add a degree of credibility and class to the venue. I also recently went with my son (this summer) to see a movie there and we both had a very enjoyable time. keep up the good work at the Amphitheater........it far outshines what is being brought in to the Villages.

was alright, I'll give you that. But how many times do we need to see Peter Frampton? I like Foreigner but I don't want to see them every year. The food vendor deal there has gone south. Used to be much better. When you have 6 concerts in two series and most of those concerts you have people leaving in droves before half way through the show there is something wrong. There are people that live in Peachtree City that have the know how and the connections to bring in FIRST CLASS bands. One of the best shows I've seen there was the Doobie Brothers. The people in charge there now don't have the negotiating clout to bring in acts like. How about Alicia Keys or Allen Jackson or acts along that line. I know, I know. You think - "Those acts would never play a venue that small." Well, they would if the right people were allowed in to promote the concert series. You may like Tony Orlando or Rare Earth but they don't pack a house. I am glad you and your son had a good time at the two shows. I'm just saying it COULD be soooo much better. Oh yea - It isn't that much better than the Villages. Too much credit where it has not been mertited for several years now.

You're right, I agree. This summer was my first time there after 5 years living here. It seemed like it was the best line-up I'd seen but I could be wrong. Frampton would get a little redundant after awhile, I agree; but he's legendary AND he sat in with the Allmans in NYC in March so he's not dead yet! It could be better, though, I agree. And NO I do not like Tony Orlando and Rare Earth was an ok band but never big enough to still be around, ya know. so I see your point there! As long as NO HIP HOP/RAP and most of the current style R&B don't get on the agenda it's all good. Not many communities of this size have nice outdoor venues like we have here....of course I did have one in town I lived in in NJ but that was decidedly not for national acts....strictly HS musical type events. Then again, the local music scene there was far superior and there were MANY local pubs etc. in surrounding areas that had all types of local, national, regional music.

From the folks I've talked with, it would be almost impossible to leave the tickets at $29 bucks per in the season ticket package and upgrade the talent. I would never say it's impossible, but check out the acts you speak of and I'll place a small wager they get more than $29 bucks per.

A quick search of Alan Jackson showed tickets available at a festival for $39.50 and a show in Vegas at $82 bucks per.

would definately go up. Even at double the price of tickets that place would sell out in one day. The worst seat in the amphitheater is as good as the best seats at larger venues. It would take a promoter who handles one of the larger venues (hifibuys/chastain) to be able to negotiate the deal with artist reps. Two shows for a little over the price of one type deal. Alot of artists and bands love to mix it up and play some smaller, more intimate gigs.Ultimately it would take the Tourism Association to choke on their egos and allow this to happen. We'll see.

You sure are living up to your screen name. I do have to agree with you though on some points. To me the amphitheater has become the biggest joke. Nobody up there knows what the hell they are doing. They couldn't produce or promote a second grade xmas program. We are no longer season ticket holders because of the lousy job of bringing in quality acts. I would pay alot of money to see top notch acts. Instead we get second or usually third class acts at best. Police station needs work, if not a new station. The paved roads and cart paths are being worked on though, so I guess that is where we disagree. Slowly but surely and it was just resurfacing on the roads so not sure what you expect. Doesn't get done much differently any where else.Have you tried the new cafe out at the Tennis Center. Best restaurant that has been in there by far. Been eating up there usually once a week. Don't play tennis but the foods great. If we could get rid of Balmoral Apartment and Harmony Village that would reduce alot the crime on the cart paths, since quite a bit if it is happening in their backyard. I lived at Balmoral for about 2 years and the junk that goes on in both those apartment complexes would make you sick. Needless to say we got out of there. We need a police station right there alone. Ok, that's my nitpicking for the night. See Ya.

I still contend that we reside in one of the finest communities in America. While all of us hope for rain, the past month has been replete with great weather.
Perhaps some standards have slipped, but each of us can and do make a difference by picking up that odd piece of trash by the walkway and depositing it in a recepticle.
We currently have a professional police department consisting of 64 uniformed officers which when compared to similar sized communities is above average. We are not riddled with crime on a daily basis, in fact most of our police effort goes to traffic and neighborhood patroling.
I know of no place else that I'd rather be.

I'd really be interested in knowing Mike King's position on the police station built on the land fill site. What is the answer? Cyndi Plunkett and Steve Brown say look at building a new building in another place and Harold Logsdon says keep spending the money to fix the current one?

John,
I have on more than one occasion stated that spending $593,000.00 for a "maybe it will fix it" is a bad idea. Our police force deserve much better. Ms Plunkett should be lauded for taking the stand against it.
I have learned, but not as yet verified, that the company doing the repairs is the same company that built the building in the first place. Should there not be some guarantee? The building was occupied in 2001, and is just too new to be having these problems.
As hard as it is to admit, I believe that we should have to continue housing the police temporarily until a new site is found and a new station built.

I have not seen a patrol car in my neighborhood in years! I am home as much as not. I'm sure there have been for calls, but I haven't seen any. I don't think we have "beats" anymore. Except for unlocked business doors.

"We currently have a professional police department consisting of 64 uniformed officers which when compared to similar sized communities is above average."

Actually, there are about 48 officers total; but they are very professional. Not all uniformed, not all of them patrol officers, most of them extremely overworked, underpaid, and undermanned. There are approximately 25 patrol officers right now. I don't really want to go into the breakdown of the numbers but I can if you would like, because I do my homework, but the police here are nowhere near what the "normal" numbers should be.

Oh yeah, most of the efforts go toward traffic? Check the stats again on that one. Most of the detectives have around 150+ cases. That includes burglaries, rapes, robberies (there is a difference between a burglary and a robbery), drug cases (lots of those), fraud (to include credit card, identity, computer, check fraud, etc), then you get into the stuff they'd really like to look into, but they're too busy just trying to play catch up that they can't do it.

The patrol officers don't have a lot of time for the "traffic enforcement" because they're busy with handling calls (like keys locked in vehicles (gotta love those), burglaries, robberies, rapes, fights, domestics, etc.) and when they can stop a car they're trying to stop the impaired driver before they can kill someone with their car.

While all of us here are glad that you live here we would like for you to know the truth and have true numbers so you can think about how close to the "average" this little town is. I guess it's getting close to "average" crime for Metro-Atlanta.

The true horror of this world is not the criminal minds that pursue vile intent. It's the apathetic view by those who stand idly by and point fingers without the will and courage to act.

Actually, a former officer who lives down the street says the detectives have stacks of case files a foot and a half high on their desks that will never addressed.

Logsdon's new big box stores will only make things worse.

Neighborhood patrols?? You meant to write buisness and shopping areas didn't you??

If you put yourself on the house watch list they do come by if they can.
