Thank You PTC!

Fellow Citizens,

I want to thank you for your support today and I am looking forward to the December runoff with Mr. King.

I want to also thank Mr. Hollums and Mr. Thompson for running an up-front, issue oriented, friendly campaign.

As we candidates gathered this evening with our wives, we shared ideas and gathered together as citizens of PTC to watch the results.

We have issues facing PTC - the cart path issue, the police station, big box issues and others. I ask everyone to come back out and vote for your candidate once again.

In closing, thank you for your support and trust and I look forward to the opportunity afforded me in a runoff election.

Best Regards and Please Vote,
Doug Sturbaum
Candidate - Post 2 PTC City Council

Why did the bond issues in PTC do so poorly?

I would not think the expansion of the Gathering Place would be controversial at all.

After living in California for a number of years, I grew tired of spineless legislators who wanted to give the whole candy shop to their constituents, but didn’t want to look like they couldn’t live within the state’s budget.

Therefore, every election cycle the ballot would be crowded with bond issues for voter approval. The unthinking voters would look at all the neat (and often necessary) things they could have because they’ve been told the people buying the bonds are paying the bills. What the voters often forget to ask is: Who pays back the value of the bonds, plus interest, to the investors? The answer, of course, is: The taxpayers.

I’m proud the citizens of PTC had the wisdom to vote down the two bond issues on Tuesday. If the citizens of PTC want Astroturf and a new Senior’s Center, the City Council needs to build these items into the budget, fund it properly, and not hide it down the city’s balance sheet as “Debt Retirement of Bonds”.
