Rehwaldt explains distribution of coupons

Tue, 10/30/2007 - 4:43pm
By: Letters to the ...

I was contacted by a television station this date concerning a possible campaign ethics violation associated with my campaign for mayor of Tyrone.

I supposedly had violated state ethics law by having businesses in Tyrone offer a 10 percent discount on merchandise or services through Dec. 31, 2007.

The six businesses that offered this discount did so to bring their business to the citizens of Tyrone and the surrounding area. The reverse of the card stated, “Vote Don Rehwaldt for Mayor” and, “Save money, Support Tyrone Business Owners.”

As a new entity into politics, reading the literature given to me by Tyrone management, and taking it upon myself to read the 43-page Georgia Ethics in Government Act, I could find nothing that would prohibit my campaign from printing and distributing this card.

In addition, I forwarded this same act to my campaign manager for his review. We determined this would not be an ethics violation in either the principle or letter of the law. We saw this as an excellent way to assist Tyrone businesses in their efforts to attract new customers.

Further, these cards were paid for by me and printed and returned to the businesses for their distribution. Some limited distribution was made by me and my supporters.

In the event that these cards are seen as a violation of any ethics rules, please accept my apology. It was purely unintentional and made only through lack of knowledge of the rules.

Don Rehwaldt

Tyrone, Ga.

Don, we still support you and we will all be voting for you come Tuesday. Thanks again for standing up to this dictatorship that has been created by Smola and Amos, with Valerie and Latoureau & Lee's help!!

VOTE FOR DON REHWALDT FOR MAYOR!!

DO NOT VOTE FOR DIAL - HE HAS BEEN CAUGHT LYING AND STEALING.

This should be of great concern to the voters of Tyrone

In this letter the ethical governmnent candidate admits the distribution of discount coupons with an encouragement to vote for certain candidates. First of all while the State and/or the court system will rule on any violation of rules or laws, the candidate is about 70 years old. If this was proper has he ever seen anyone else do it or is he just egotistical enough to think that he is the first one to think of it? He says that he is new to politics but he is braging about his experience. His essay says that if elected he plans on putting the most qualified people in leadership position. Are these "new people" going to be as qualified as his campain manager that also did not see anything wrong with the coupons? He attempts to lay some of the blame on "town management", does he think that town management should be clairvoyant and know what any candidate might do?

The citizens of Tyrone have an election where they need to focus on issues and not on who has the best people skills. Generally, the more visionary the person the fewer people skills they have. Vote for whoever you believe that can lead the Town.

"The citizens of Tyrone have an election where they need to focus on issues and not on who has the best people skills. Generally, the more visionary the person the fewer people skills they have." Lord! I have seen the light! All those times Smola was looking over his glasses at us I should have known that he could save us all cause he has NO PEOPLE SKILLS and never will! So you should all vote for Smola cause he can't communicate with...ANYBODY?

And I suppose Dial because the whole time he was picking on that Judge because she wanted to keep and open mind and vote for what was best, not what was for big bussiness...'that was paying Dial's tab, we should know he's best...cause he has learned every slimy trick in the book...and we are SUPPOSE TO BELIEVE HE WILL USE THEM ...FOR US..AND NOT AGAINST US... A snake is a snake is a snake, and if you get bit because you trusted it, who is to blame, you knew what it was. Your only fault would be for hoping it wasn't what it seemed, but that is what it banks on, your Christian values of forgiving and forgetting.

The paper knew about the fox 5 dirty trick and Cal still endorsed Rehwaldt. Smola, nobody wants you here and nobody is going to vote for you.

Mike Smola (also known as "amg2022") is showing just how desperate he is as the election nears. Throwing out the thrumped up ethics charges right before the election is about as low as it gets.

This is the same revolting tactic that former Lt. Governor Mark Taylor used against Gov. Sonny Purdue a week before the election. Taylor swore the Governor had broken every rule in the book to save his dying campaign. It didn't work and the ethics commission later said there was no merit to the charges.

Tyrone doesn't need a slimebag like Smola.

Here is a guy with character. He will be accountable and he'll open.

You will be a good Mayor, Don. Good luck.

The people who are backing Smola - Amos, Valerie, Dial, Nasciaseno, Matthews, Janet, and Darrow - that is it.........you will lose by a landslide.

Submitted by amg2022 on Wed, 10/31/2007 - 5:33am.

As you know all campaign material must identify who paid for it. Explain please how these coupons never contained that information. You paid for them. Why not disclose that you paid for them?

Strike 2 for the Ethical candidate.

This is something you should really care about Smola/Amos because once you are out of office, there is going to be an independent audit of the town books. VOTE FOR DON REHWALDT FOR MAYOR AND GET THESE SICK, GREEDY, LYING, SORRY PEOPLE OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENT.

Yesterday, Mr Wayne Adams had one of the petitions stolen, it was the petition to remove Amos and Fowler from office; a citizen had gotten 30 voters names on it, his name was Tommy Wiggings, the petition with the 30 names on it - to remove Amos and VALERIE from office WAS STOLEN. The petition was on Wayne's desk, by his computer, behind the counter and someone [Amos and Smola and Fowler supporters] came into the store and went behind the desk and stole the petition. Furthermore, someone stole all of Waynes' advertisement/coupons and gave them to fox 5 - this happened on the same day fox news was called out. Furthermore, Smola supporters are stealing signs of Smola's opposition from private property - this is against the law too. I am going to file a complaint wtth the GA Ethics Commission on Smola, Dial, and anybody else who wants to continue stealing from the citizens. We have gone to the police and they have done nothing, so after the complaint to the ethics commission I am calling Ken Vance, the director of GA Peace Officers, Standards and Training Council to report this.

Submitted by PreciousStahr on Wed, 10/31/2007 - 12:37pm.

Stolen? Oh My God! Mr. Wiggins worked very hard for months to get those people to sign including me. Whoever you are? bring those list back to the Tire Store!

And Smola, My fiance's uncle was burried in that Cemetery where your put you sign. He don't appreciate it.

Submitted by oldbeachbear on Wed, 10/31/2007 - 12:14pm.

Why do you think they put in a new police chief without due process? It was to get their guy in there before the elections and before they lost power. Amos has always controlled the police department. Brock could not be manipulated.

Submitted by Tyrone Aries on Wed, 10/31/2007 - 12:23pm.

Barry and Smola have been using the police to harass citizens who don't agree with them for years, and Amos knws Brock has too much integrity to do their dirty work. But my oh my are we seeing their dirty tricks now. Thanks Don, we appreciate you standing up to these dictators who think they can do anything they want and get away with it.

Georgia Code 21-2-570 clearly states that "Any person who gives or receives, offers to give or receive, or participates in the giving or receiving of money or gifts for the purpose of registering as a voter, voting, or voting for a particular candidate in any primary or election shall be guilty of a felony." Are you admitting guilt to a felony? The reason it's not in the Ethics Handbook is because it is a violation of State Law, not a violation of an ethics code. Has it occurred to you that you have implicated each organization you coerced into participating in this act? If you did not, shame on you for not knowing the law before you endeavored to become the leader an entire community! What other rules and regulations are you ill informed of? Are you aware that a person guilty of a felony not only cannot hold an elected office, but loses their right to vote! If elected, are you willing to saddle the Tyrone taxpayers with the cost of a special election, now that you have publicly admitted to committing this crime? Ignorance of the law is no defense. An apology to the citizens and businesses who trusted you to know what you were talking about does little to protect them. It is the responsibility of every candidate to know the rules and regulations. What else don't you know? A great start for the candidate who calls himself the Ethical Candidate!

Submitted by Tyrone90210 on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 9:18pm.

Do not worry about this last attempt to dismount Don Rehwaldt. The law requirements are very strict and there has been no misconduct by Don. All people, whether they voted for him or not could use the coupon. Heck, someone came and stole all of Wayne Adams' off his counter. I wonder who that could have been. Just another pathetic attempt to sway popular opinion. It is really not a good idea to threaten local business owners who already want you our of office, Smola and Amos. We all still get to vote and I think Cal Beverly's endorsement of REHWALDT, YOUNG, AND SHENKLE scared the everloving crap out of Smola and Amos. It is all ok. We are planning to back Don no matter what. If you want to start talking about breaking laws then shall we go back to mid-90's starting with Fowler and run down the line of all the laws Amos and Smola have broken. We would not be done counting until after the election.

On the coupon should state who paid for the advertising and that is required. That is the bottom line. I would hate to see anyone convicted of a felony unfortunately rules play into things. Sad state of affairs.

Submitted by BACKINBLACK on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 9:45pm.

Yeah Smola/Amos, you two should know all there is to know about how to correctly snd prefectly break a law.

Submitted by amg2022 on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 9:52pm.

How do you snd break a law?

If what you guys have said actually happend, you can't dig big R out of the whole he dug himself. A good lawyer maybe...but housewifes? Doubtful.

Submitted by BACKINBLACK on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 10:07pm.

It is not a big deal. I would not hang my hat on it if I was you. There is not even enough to true bill him. Give it up. You are going to lose anyway.

Submitted by amg2022 on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 10:15pm.

I don't get why your directly talking to me. This isn't my battle, this will be Mr. R's battle. I'm not the prosecuting attorney, so how could I lose this battle?

And yes, I would like to think that and State and/or Federal court would think it's a big deal.

Breaking any law is a big deal...especially one that carries such harsh consequences.

Submitted by BACKINBLACK on Wed, 10/31/2007 - 10:16am.

I am calling BS on you. Amos and Smola and team have several lawsuits against them for many different things, one is FRAUD - that carries serious consequences. Better watch yourself.

Submitted by oldbeachbear on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 8:04pm.

I bet he is hiding under his bed now that you read him the act. If you are talking about not knowing the law, I think you should know that your friend Smola ok ed houses for Wieland as duplexes. You can't miss them, you pass them on 74 every day. And guess what else, Mike and Amos didn't think you had to obey state laws concerning cemeteries! We have a mangled one in Trickum Creek Estates thanks to their stupidity. Good thing we haven' had any killings here cause that may not be on Tyrone's books either. I don't think you understand, Renwald didn't make any money, he didn't take any money, and he didn't say "I'll give you this card if you vote for me." You guys are grasping at straws.

Submitted by Tyrone90210 on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 7:27pm.

If you had been to the meetings you would understand. Look, this man has a whole town that hates his guts? do you feel like the Lone Ranger? You have to ask your self why. Have you read anything people have been saying? They are not trying to be mean, they are just truly sick of him. There is NO WAY he can win this election unless he pulls a dirty trick out of his pocket. It might work in Ny where people like that can go in on others that don't know their history, but this is a small area. you have been hoodwinked.

"If he disavows religion and historical facts, what influences his morality, ethics and principles? He claims to be the “ethical” candidate and campaigns on the platform of ethical government.

A great start for the candidate who calls himself the Ethical Candidate"

If you want to talk about religion that is one thing, ethical is another. This is all you guys can find and it is so close to election. Rehwaldt hasn't done anything unethical. Smola is in love with being a would be. He has had his chance to show us if he could or couldn't, we have all decided he couldn't and never can. we are voting on tract records. If you came to the meetings or were involved in what goes on you might change your vote.
