Congratulations, Robinson Road homeowners. By banding together, you chased away a developer who would have ruined the character and stability of our neighborhood. Be vigilant. Another one is $ure to come along with similar ideas. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Shame on the three Robinson Road homeowners who would sell out to a tree-cutting, neighborhood-ruining developer. Remember, you may be moving away, but the rest of us still have to live here and look at the unsightly mess you left behind. Shame on you. - - - - - - - - - - - - - To the no-good, greedy [ones] who want to sell their three houses together so that a developer can build 46 homes in their place on Robinson Road: Shame on you! Let’s see how this works: Move to PTC, raise your family in a beautiful environment, and then once you “got yours,” screw everyone else and try to make a the biggest buck you can. You disgust me. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Robinson Road rezoning alert: Has anyone else figured out the creeping pattern of rezoning on Robinson Road? Property on the east side of Robinson Road from Ga. Highway 54 almost all the way down to the Parkway that has for decades been zoned multi-acre, single family residential is now creeping into bigger uses. They don’t have sewer on that part of town. I have heard that Harman and Logsdon want to run sewer there, too. That may be why at 301 Robinson they are trying to rezone the corner of Robinson and Spear. Of course, the zoning hearing is AFTER the election. It started with the two Crystal Cathedrals and now it looks like there is that domino effect that will lead to rezoning from residential to commercial and apartments and Carriage Lane is a continuation of that mess. What happened to PTC having a “Plan”? - - - - - - - - - - - - - It is frustrating to attend the Peachtree City City Council meetings and observe what is going on. With the mayor and two of the council members aligned to work against the majority of the Peachtree City residents’ wishes, it is a helpless feeling. Voting on the important issues usually ends up in a 3 to 2 vote, destroying the wonderful lifestyle our city enjoys. I am sure the people who own the industrial land purchased it at a fairly low price. Of course they would love to have their property rezoned so they can sell to developers building residences or shopping centers and receive a bonanza. Would it be possible to change our city’s laws so that any rezoning would have to go before a public vote? At last Thursday’s (Oct. 18, 2007) Peachtree City City Council meeting, the mayor made a remark while the rezoning was being considered near Rockaway Road for approval of an assisted living facility to be built. He said something to the effect that they should just take a vote rather than have any further discussion because he was sure no one’s mind was going to be changed. Luckily, the mayor’s remark was overlooked. At least Stuart Kourajian and Cyndi Plunkett pushed on and were able to gain a couple of concessions from the builder before the vote was taken. But, it seemed obvious that this vote was going to be passed, no matter what objections were brought up. The mayor, Mr. Boone and Mr. Harman seem to be voting in a block and making no bones about it. We have a group of leaders who, I believe, are abandoning the original city plan, and something needs to be done before they do more damage to our beautiful city. I would like to explore the possibility of recalling the mayor and also explore what recourse the citizens of PTC have to get Mr. Boone off the City Council before his term expires. At least we have a vote coming up in November, and, hopefully, Mr. Harman’s temporary term will end with that election. Am I the only one feeling like this, or are there others out there who feel the same way? These people appear to me to be very dangerous to our wonderful way of life here in Peachtree City. - - - - - - - - - - - - - I agree with the writers who are down on Councilman Harman. He had to conduct a poll just to see whether the city’s ordinances were worth protecting. Give me someone who stand up for our city’s values and not developer cash. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dar Thompson for City Council. No thanks. That’s all we need — another self-absorbed businessman who’s only interested in his own personal gain on the City Council. As a former member of Mr. Thompson’s gym I witnessed his personality on several occasions; he seems to only care about profit and women. Not once in two years did he ever acknowledge my presence; he never even thanked me for my business. Mr. Thompson on the council would be a huge mistake for Peachtree City. - - - - - - - - - - - - - As the water supply continues to dwindle, and the extended forecast shows no relief in site, isn’t it time to stop the growth? This area continues to expand at an alarming rate with zero thought to the future. At the local level, every City Council meeting agenda is packed with developers lined up with the latest and the greatest that will over-burden ever shrinking water resources. Has council ever even considered that? Will they ever? If the situation is this dire today, what will happen tomorrow? Will we all line up at water trucks to get our ration when the taps run dry? Will we be washing our clothes in the City Hall fountain? Will people have to abandon the area? What will happen to the precious tax coffers then? With all the hand-wringing going on from the governor on down and all the blame being placed on the Army Corps (see scapegoats) I haven’t heard one politico mention declaring a freeze on growth. We never will, either, because it’s easier to blame an entity than take responsibility for your actions. - - - - - - - - - - - - - According to CNN, North Georgia has less than 90 days water supply. Proposals should be drafted to invest taxpayer dollars in creating two desalination plants at Georgia’s eastern coastal waters. The global warming research indicates that the oceans’ water levels are rising at an alarming rate; as the ice fields melt, the land masses recede. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas will feel the effects of land-mass loss due to water increase. Why rely on rain for water? The oceans’ waters can be desalted. China and G.E. are building two plants right now. Why not us? - - - - - - - - - - - - - The mosque on Flat Creek waters their lawn every morning. Perhaps they should obey the outdoor watering ban like everyone else. - - - - - - - - - - - - - I may not be “smarter than a fifth grader,” but I do know that even though you are using well water to water your lawn, it is still affecting the water table. Where do you think that water comes from? Come on, let’s be logical. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Would Jesus shop at a Good Will Store or would he prefer a Dillard’s? - - - - - - - - - - - - - To the lady in my neighborhood who told my 7-year-old son that she would not buy popcorn from him if his dad didn’t vote for John Edwards: Shame on you. He was simply trying to raise money for his Cub Scout den. When my husband told you that he would not be voting for John Edwards, you told my son that you wouldn’t buy anything from him. Shame on you again. You are lucky that I, his mother, was not there to witness this asinine behavior first-hand. Thankfully we have raised our son to be polite (which is more than I can say for you) and he simply thanked you and moved on to another house where our neighbors were more than happy to support the Cub Scouts regardless of our political views. People like you are what will continue to keep our country divided. Thanks to you, every time we ride by your yellow house, he says, “That’s where the mean old lady lives,” and I say, “Yes, son, you are correct.” - - - - - - - - - - - - - On behalf of our subdivisions and concerned citizens, thank you, Steve Brown, for always taking on the corruption and the back room deals. I’ve yet to come across a single person who thought the Kohl’s store was a good idea except for one woman with an ongoing business relationship with the store. A bunch of us wish you were running again because we need reliable and unselfish leadership again. Keep up the good fight. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hello, is it just me, or is Halloween every year on Oct. 31? I think it’s everyday at Riley Park. I am talking about the crazy football association in Peachtree City known as the Packers, or should I say, the actors association. I give a high five to the parent or coach who wrote a complaint last Wednesday about the million and one things going on at the park. I have never seen a association that keeps up more drama with parents, coaches or even the kids. I have seen them bend rules for their so-called Elite Group. [One person], since realizing that he can go in and change the rules of the park, is the same person that cuts off the lights on the field before you can get up your water bottles or pulls the markers up off the field before your game is finished if you have a disagreement with him about anything. The board gets nominated by the board and they are all friends so that means they can’t be voted out. - - - - - - - - - - - - - I’ve watched my grandson and other Peachtree City boys stand on the sidelines and plead with their eyes just to get in and play. I don’t want anyone to even dare give me that tired answer that they are letting the best players play. These are children that live here, their parents paid a lot of money for them to play football, and they should play an equal amount of time to any other child on the team. This game is supposed to be about these young boys learning to play football; they can’t learn if they don’t play. I don’t care if they win or not, I care about what this is doing to their self-esteem and their future feelings about playing sports at all. My grandson has said he doesn’t think he wants to play next year, he has never wanted to do anything but play sports, and do you know whose fault that is? It’s the coaches who shouldn’t be coaching if they don’t live here, the coaches that have their own agenda, who want to push certain children towards some bright NFL future, I suppose. Peachtree City sports should be for Peachtree City children, and if people from other counties or cities want to play, their parents shouldn’t be allowed to coach, and the numbers of children allowed to play from outside the city should be limited. Are we going to allow everyone else to play here at the expense of our own children? I am holding these coaches, the Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Board, and the parents who choose to not get involved, liable for what happens to this beautiful young boy’s spirit. I am going to blame all of you, and shame on anyone that will sit back and allow this to happen, not only to my grandson, but to their own children, and any other child of this beautiful city. - - - - - - - - - - - - - I live in Peachtree City and think it’s the most charming city ever. I don’t like the growth and development but have accepted it. However, since these retailers are here and here to stay, would it be unreasonable to get them all to contribute and maintain trash receptacles along the cart paths? As a daily walker, I see Chick-fil-A trash, Starbucks cups, Target bags, etc. Maybe the garbage will still end up on the ground but people like me may pick up a cup or so and drop it in the trash can as we pass by. To those who possess the power, please give this consideration. - - - - - - - - - - - - - It is Peachtree PARKWAY, not Peachtree RACEWAY. Enjoy your drive. Follow the posted speed limits. We don’t want to have to add stop signs at every intersection and turn it into Peachtree STOPWAY. Help keep Peachtree Parkway beautiful and safe. Slow down! - - - - - - - - - - - - - Senoia mayoral candidate McAfee is a phony. Murray McAfee has been touting himself as “the best qualified” for the job of Senoia mayor, citing his tenure as the city’s administrator as one of his greatest credentials. What he failed to mention in his foul-mouthed newspaper interview (which required extensive censorship), is that he was given the choice of resigning from his former position or being fired for “incompetence.” Perhaps a call to the administration at Tybee Island, asking if they’d ever hire McAfee again (the only question they can legally answer in a negative way). Anyone who’s ever attended a Senoia City Council meeting and sat through the comments from the public has had to be subjected to McAfee’s crazed ramblings which are never based in fact, border on the insane, and leave everyone in the room rolling their eyes until he’s finally told by council to “make his point or sit down,” at which point he’s forced to sit down, since he never has a legitimate point to make. When asked by the Senoia Optimists to attend a candidate’s forum, McAfee declined on advice from his handlers. They know that the biggest threat to McAfee’s campaign is McAfee, so they don’t want him speaking in public. When sober, they’re at least smart enough to realize they need to keep their lap dog on a short leash. In the last two years, Senoia has finally emerged from its dark past as the political laughing stock of Coweta County. The positive changes going on downtown are the greatest thing that’s ever happened here. They will reduce the citizen’s tax burden, increase the equity in our homes, and improve our quality of life. However, none of it could have been accomplished without the conservative, level-headed leadership of the present mayor and council; that’s the bottom line. But don’t take my word for it, go and talk to both candidates. Talk to Belisle, let him explain the facts, and give you every confidence in his leadership and vision for Senoia, then decide for yourself. But be warned: in the past, Senoia has had extremely low voter turnout. That apathy has been our city’s greatest enemy. Get out and vote, Senoia. Keep our momentum moving forward. Vote for Robert Belisle, the only sane choice. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Buyer, beware! Anyone who is looking to purchase a new condo in the middle of Fayetteville, don’t be fooled by the pretty facade that faces the street. Do your homework. Look at the entire property. Notice the parking lot, deferred maintenance, lousy landscaping, falling down fencing, mud trenches for drainage — the list goes on and on. The builder is building cheap and the HOA is doing nothing. Save your money. Don’t make the same mistake we did. - - - - - - - - - - - - - After watching the Whitewater football team last week, there is only one way to describe that program: No class. I’m not sure who is the driving force behind it all — the administration, the coaches, or all the wannabe parents involved, but somebody has to get a grip over there. They are a group that is embarrassing themselves and worse yet starting to embarrass Fayette County. Knock off the mean-spirited displays and let the kids play the game. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hey, Peachtree City parents, check it out — if your kids are going out at night with a can of spray paint, chances are that they’re NOT building model cars. Maybe you should sober up and pay attention to what they’re doing. - - - - - - - - - - - - - If McIntosh High School “gifted students” are so great, how come they always look so miserable? Maybe it’s because they wish they were having as much fun as the athletic, good-looking and popular kids. - - - - - - - - - - - - - My wife and I had the unfortunate experience of using the Piedmont Fayette ER a couple of weekends ago. Our child had presented symptoms that could indicate a possible seizure or a neurological condition could be imminent. Upon arrival, we were told the computer was down. We don’t know why the staff felt the need to let us know this or why we cared, as our child has never been seen at this facility, so no medical information could be gleaned from an internal computer system. As our child was being triaged, we were told that if the symptoms got worse to let them know. About an hour and a half later our child’s symptoms got worse. We informed the front desk, yet no one checked on the child, or even glanced at us. When we went to complain later about not being seen, symptoms getting worse, and numerous other people being seen who arrived after us (most of which were obviously there for less severe reasons), we were put in a room and informed that they had misplaced our paperwork. We were told our child was not in the computer system and would have to be triaged a second time. We had waited for over three hours at this point and who knows how much longer if we hadn’t complained. Two people in the ER had let our child fall through the cracks. I will never go back to this ER or this hospital. When I talked with several people, I heard similar stories about that ER. Someone needs to look into the operational procedures or lack thereof this facility has in place. - - - - - - - - - - - - - It only takes one person to complain for the Fayette County School System to discontinue an event that would offend someone. The assistant I spoke with told me that one mother had called in because she was offended that her daughter was subjected to other people’s religious beliefs and did not want her daughter studying about different traditions. Do you know that that teacher was asked not to have that as part of their curriculum any more? One person complained and this awesome learning lesson for the children was taken away. Do these people have such closed dusty minds that they are not willing to learn about everything they can? Are they so paranoid that any knowledge of Christianity is going to influence their child negatively? Does not Christianity make up the majority in our country but yet it only takes one minority to take away one’s right to say Merry Christmas? This innocent assistant who was the receiver of my call could not have agreed with me more. However, as the Board of Education strives to be politically correct, we are losing the opportunity to practice our own beliefs. I think these close-minded people need to find something else to keep them occupied. Have a safe and Happy Halloween and Merry Christmas. login to post comments |
