Hey Hack... I Moved Our Little Bicker Session Over Here

Git Real's picture

I’m starting this in a new blog for the ease of those of us who choose to bicker over this subject. You and me guy. Smiling

Okay Hack…here we go. Dog gone it. You’re gonna make me work and I don’t wanna. Like it’s going to do any good.

Let me tell you what one vietnam vet, my father, sitting right here beside me says: "John Kerry, in my eyes, was a warrior. I served in that war with him. I'd serve with him again." All but one of the men on Kerry's boat supported him, Git. Let's not rewrite any history here.

In the words of the Swift Boat Vererans:

“We regret the need to do this.
Most Swift boat veterans would like nothing better than to support one of our own for America's highest office, regardless of whether he was running as a Democrat or a Republican. However, Kerry's phony war crimes charges, his exaggerated claims about his own service in Vietnam, and his deliberate misrepresentation of the nature and effectiveness of Swift boat operations compel us to step forward.?

Hack, This goes way beyond Kerry’s Purple Heart issues. But, I suppose that doesn’t matter to you. No disrespect to your father and the couple of guys on the boat that supported him, but the vast majority of vets took great offense towards Kerry’s false claims and his ‘puffed up’ military service. I’m not trying to speak for you or your dad. However, what I am willing to stand up and fight for are the words and statements of vets, many who have come forward repudiating Kerry’s service record for obvious reasons. These guys are NOT political operatives, but rather men who for the most part have never been politically active. Yet Kerry’s own lies and distortions drew these men out of their private lives to challenge Kerry’s military service. These men had nothing to gain by doing this other than their continued concerns and service toward our country. Who am I to believe, the lying Kerry or dozens of ordinary men who banded together to correct Kerry’s altered version of history? Sir, I trust these men over the pompous and arrogant leach that lost to Bush three years ago.

GO AHEAD AND TAKE YOUR SHOTS AT THESE GUYS

Moving on....

The minimum wage is important to those who receive it (and there are people who are paid no more than the law allows).

I won’t argue with that. What I will say is that a minimum wage increase does not help the people that the Democrats claim it helps. Again, simple economics… The minimum wage goes up….. so does everything else, leaving the burger flippers no better off than they were before. But, I guess giving them a false sense of economic prosperity is more compassionate than being honest about the negative effects of the minimum wage.

National Center for Policy Analysis – The Negative Effects Of The Minimum Wage

Raising The Minimum Wage Without Reducing Poverty

Mark D. Turner, Research Associate,The Urban Institute and Institute for Policy Studies Johns Hopkins University

Just because gay marraige, the minimum wage, and healthcare are not issues for you, conservatism, I take it, puts no values on those issues.

Partially correct…. Gay marriage is a ridiculous issue. It is not needed and it’s just plain wrong….any way you twist it. What’s next after they get their way with the queer marriage issue?

Minimum wage…. I addressed that above.

Health Care? Don’t tell me Conservatives don’t care about health care. We care that that Democrats are trying to give us the same failed government health care programs that have failed the UK, Canada and other countries. Yeah, yeah… back it up you say….

The Top Ten Things People Believe About Canadian Health Care, But Shouldn’t

Canadians Are Trying Circumvent The Canadian Health Care Due To It’s Failure To Provide Proper Care

Personally, as a business man I guess I should hope and pray for a government program so I can drop the coverages that I pay for now. I don’t know what the ultimate solution is, but again, I trust the private sector more than I trust the government’s ability to provide for my health care.

I suppose the bottom line is that you trust the government to supply your needs for you. I trust myself and the abilities and opportunities the private sector provides for us. I just don’t know how you guys plan to pay for it? Wait… I do know. You’re going to take it away from the producers. The problem is the more burdens you place on the producers, the less we’re going to produce. But gee, I guess if you’ve never met a payroll before and created a revenue generating business then it’s understandable as to why you wouldn’t understand what I’m talking about.

Well Git, believe it or not, there are people who are not poor who actually think of how to help poor people get themselves out of poverty.

Well Hack, believe it or not, Conservatives, who are usually not poor, actually want to help poor people get themselves out of poverty too. The difference is that we recognize that throwing massive amounts of money at this problem has and will fail in the future. We do not mind making investments in the so-called poor in this country. Our issue is that we expect some sort of return on our investments. The return we’ve seen thus far has been minimal at best and unacceptable. Lord knows we’ve taken the safety net and the hand up and created a very comfortable lifestyle for a huge number of deadbeats in this country. And now we’re going to have to expand those benefits to half the populations of Mexico and Central America. We can’t do this. Regardless as to whether we pull out of Iraq and divert the war funds or not.

If you think no one could run the war on global terror better than what we've seen from conservatives, I and most of America disagree with you.

Nah… I think there are quite a few qualified and talented men and women in this country that could run this war. I just don’t think any of your line-up is qualified. Except maybe Governor Richardson. With that said there aren’t many on the Republican line-up that I trust at this point. Can you be this honest?

Git. So, you wouldn't fire an employee with this level of performance?

We are in a global war on terrorism that is much bigger than any president we have in office at the moment. Bush has done an honest and admirable effort at combating the Islamofascist Muslim terrorists that are trying to destroy every and any nation that does not bow down to their warped god. Has Bush been perfect? Heck no. Would a Democrat dedicated to fighting terrorism? Heck no. This conflict with these evil doers spans many presidencies and will many more. For our free nation to survive we will have to continue this fight regardless of how many people want to retreat from this unpopular and involuntary war. You’re right about one thing. The American people do not want to fight it. Conservatives included. The difficult fact to swallow is that we have no other choice.

You'd just keep sending them in to prove their inability to git 'er done?

Nice cheap shot there buddy. I’m actually amazed that we’ve accomplished all we have. If we’re willing to continue the fight I’m hopeful that we might be able to increase the stability of the region. If we fail, then we merely retreat to form another front closer to our home and that of our allies. Our surrender will not end the hostilities that the terrorist perpetuate on us.

So Git, where did I say that my candidates were more righteous? That territory belongs to the "moral majority" not me.

No you didn’t say it. However, you’ve implied it enough. Do me a favor. Next time I ‘go off’ and hold the Republicans accountable for their ineptness spare me the atta-boys and the cheering on until you’re willing to compliment me on holding your guys to the same standards you expect me to hold mine to. I’ve yet to see you go after the corruption and hypocrisies that are displayed by your candidates and those in your party.

Git, exactly how in touch with reality is conservatism? If you say that every American has basic health care and it is improving, you had best come armed with facts.

The facts I’m going to offer up is this: Go back a hundred years and look at the health care that was in place. Move a head decade by decade and look at the advancements that have been made over each time period. Look at where we were in the 60’s. Look how we advanced into the 90’s. Look at where we are today. Ten years from now we are going to be amazed as to the advancements that have been made and how they’ve become available to more and more people. There’s no doubt that the producers are the first ones to receive the latest treatments available. Heck, someone has to pay for them. As they become more available, and with a little time these advancements are made available to everyone. Personally, I’m thankful for the health care that is afforded to all the peoples of this country and how it’s getting better year after year. Give it some time Hack. We’re heading in the right direction without the need of our government taking over and mucking it all up.

If your point is don't vote because it doesn't matter? Sorry, but I'm voting.

I’ve not missed a vote since I’ve became eligible in 1980. Depending on the candidates I might just sit this one out. That should thrill you to no end.
I'm not sure how your opinions devoid of support are supposed to change my vote,

You know better than that. I can argue, support and defend my positions all day long. I’ve proved that in the past and you’ve complimented me on those skills repeatedly. I also try to stay out of most these arguments because your mind or those of others are not going to be changed, regardless of the facts I or others may present. So what’s the point?

but I'm afraid your post has reaffirmed all of what I believe of what is called "conservatism":
Me, me, mine, and the war must continue; the war fought with our tax dollars against all the "stan" countries? Yeah, okaaayyyy.

Yeah… whatever dude. Puzzled You know me better than that.

Enjoy the weekend, and hope you unspool soon.

Thanks, I did enjoy the weekend. Except for typing these long winded replies. Smiling I did have a great time with my kids today and what an awesome day to be outside enjoying it.

As for the unspooling thing….. I am wound a little tight today aren’t I. Eye-wink

Hey, tell your dad hi for me and again treasure your time with him. Personally, I think he did a pretty good job of raising his kid. Love you man!

John Kerry joined the Swift Boats during his 2nd tour in the Navy, despite the popular belief that he only served 6 months. He transferred to the Swift Boats when, at the time, they were taking the highest casualty count in the war, almost 70%, hardly the actions of a man trying to avoid service. The attacks on him by the Republicans is and was absolutely disgraceful but completely in character. No amount of service to our country can shield anyone from the Republican attack machine once they run afoul of the party line. Witness the most recent attacks on General Sanchez. If you want to read a real account of Kerry on the Swift Boats by someone who was actually there, as opposed to a hired character assassin for the GOP you can read it here:

Digby, The Emile Zola of the Swift-Boat Vets' Smear

So now we come to Iraq: “Nah… I think there are quite a few qualified and talented men and women in this country that could run this war.” In the Republican party? Where? Here’s what retired Army Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, who led U.S. forces in Iraq says about the Republican leadership running the war:

“Who will demand accountability for the failure of our national political leaders involved in the management of this war?''

“Action without vision is a nightmare, there is no question that America is living a nightmare with no end in sight.''

“From a catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan to the administration's latest surge strategy, this administration has failed to employ and synchronize its political, economic and military power.”

“While the politicians espouse their rhetoric designed to preserve their reputations and their political power, out soldiers die!”

“In my profession, these types of leaders would immediately be relieved or court-martialed.''

What has been the response? Look at the Republican web sites. Look over at RedState.com. Withering attacks on General Sanchez of course! As soon as he made his speech, everybody knew what was coming. It was not a surprise nor was there any question as to what was going to happen. Regardless of the service the man has given to our country, everybody knew exactly what was going to happen the minute he stepped away from the Republican Party line.

And Git, I gotta admit you really got me with this: “For our free nation to survive we will have to continue this fight regardless of how many people want to retreat from this unpopular and involuntary war.”

The Republicans, with the admitted collusion of the spineless Democratic congress, have bent over backwards to trash every freedom and right that they could. Read the Patriot Act and compare it to the Constitution. Look at the law. Every time, EVERY TIME, that a provision of the Patriot Act has come before the Supreme Court it has been ruled against.

And the Republican’s response to these rulings? The completely predictable trashing of the Court, of course. What else?

Read what bin Laden posted after 9/11 as to what he wanted. Bush fulfilled his wildest dreams! He gave bin Laden every single thing he demanded, from the withdrawal of U. S. troops from Saudi Arabia right on down the list. Read it and show me where I’m wrong.

Health care? A minor issue in this election for me but what was the Republican response to the Frost family’s radio broadcast for the Democratic Party about the SCHIP program? Full scale attacks on a brain damaged 12 year old. Sick. Really, really sick.

Any democrat at all. Any of them. You bet.

No amount of service to our country can shield anyone from the Republican attack machine once they run afoul of the party line.

Gee Jeff? Puzzled I don't think these guys considered themselves as part of the "Republican Attack Machine". Yeah, the Republicans used their testimonies for their own gain. So What? You know darn well the Democrats would have done the same, so don't act so high and mighty.

Let's move on past his disputed military record and let's address the lies, as you insinuate, that these Swift Boat Vets are apparently spreading regarding Kerry's congressional testimony. If, according to you, they are not telling the truth, then they must be liars??? Are they Jeff?

So All Of These Vietnam Veterans Must Be Liars According JeffC's Sources

So now we come to Iraq: “Nah… I think there are quite a few qualified and talented men and women in this country that could run this war.” In the Republican party? Where? Here’s what retired Army Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, who led U.S. forces in Iraq says about the Republican leadership running the war:

Jeff, I'm going to confess that I have not kept up with General Sanchez and his statements. I'm not going to pretend that I have first hand knowledge of his issues. I do however, have a few concerns regarding the General that I'm confused about. As far as his issues with the Republican leadership running the war I ask you this? Does it come to any surprise that when politicians are involved the decisions being made are usually unproductive and sometimes disastrous. You, above all others should understand this on a first hand basis. Politicians meddling in military tactics and decisions can have some costly consequences attached.

“Who will demand accountability for the failure of our national political leaders involved in the management of this war?''

My understanding is that Sanchez was in control during the escalation of the bloodiest times in Iraq. Why did this happen under his control? Where does he assume any responsibility? Why was it necessary to replace him? This whole thing smacks of CYA on the General's part. Again, I confess, I'm just a side line observer scratching my head. Puzzled

“Action without vision is a nightmare, there is no question that America is living a nightmare with no end in sight.''

Is it just me or does anyone else see the situation improving somewhat? Do we just quit right now? Is the General jealous that he was not able to lead our forces into garnering the levels of stability achieved thus far?

As for the rest of General Sanchez's rhetoric it appears that he is desperately trying to deflect attention from his own leadership skills, or lack there of.

Sorry Jeff, That was not convincing. But, if you ask me if there is interference in our war plans by a bunch of political hacks I'd have to say probably so. It's been that way in every war we ever fought and by Democrats as well as Republicans.

As soon as he [Sanchez]made his speech, everybody knew what was coming. It was not a surprise nor was there any question as to what was going to happen.

Whatever. The Democrats have more attack machine groups such as Move On than the Republicans do. So what do you expect? Why aren't you as incensed when the Libs unleash their vitriolous accusations against the Republicans. How pious art thou? Again, my main issue with you guys is the hypocrisy you display by holding the Republicans to a different standard than you do yourselves. You blatantly refuse to admit to the corruption and lack of integrity that the Democrats display on a daily basis. To quote the John Kerry defender Mr. Jim Russell that you linked to earlier.... "Your ends cannot possibly justify these means. Come on!".

The Republicans, with the admitted collusion of the spineless Democratic congress, have bent over backwards to trash every freedom and right that they could.

I could not disagree with you on this even if I pretended to. True Conservatives have lived in disgust with Bush for compromising our sacred freedoms. This trend is one that is not exclusive to either party. Thanks for being honest on this one. We should be very, very concerned regarding the Patriot Act. Rest assured there are many Democrats who outwardly give lip service to despising the act, but on the inside they're high fiving themselves for the future opportunities they will derive from it.

Read what. You guys make me defend my positions, so if you want me to consider what you're saying then provide me some good info. BTW.. Wasn't it your side that kept harping that we needed to break ties with the Saudi's?

Any democrat at all. Any of them. You bet.

It amazes me Jeff how you can come on the Citizen and freely bash a blogger for their faith in creationism because they believe God's word, yet you foolishly put your faith in the Democrat party. Let me just say that it's much easier for me to put my faith in and believe that the God of our universe created this wonderful world that we live in, than it is to put my faith in the hope that the same Democrats that were party to mucking up this country would be the same ones to save us from ourselves. That's laughable. Now don't get your panties in a wad..... The Republicans helped you guys out. Eye-wink

BTW... Is the Suburban Guerrilla, that you quote, tantamount to the 'Democrat Attack Machine' and the antithesis to the 'Republican Attack Machine'?

I just returned from Brazil, but I've found that both there and here my attempts to blog have been "hacked" (possibly). I would log in and see my name, but the "reply," "edit," or "add comment" commands would not be there. It would still say log in or register even though my name appeared as an "online user." I honestly think I've been hacked. go figure. As this argument grows weary , I will just inject my two Reals into the why I'm voting for democrats debate:

1. Iraq: You think it's getting better. I believe Sunni and shiite are no closer now than they were three years ago. I think it wasn't our business in the first place to preemptively invade a country and adopt all of their social programs while trying to cut our own. I believe Turkey invading the kurdish region will prove extremely problematic. I believe we have made Iraq a new best friend for Iran (both now shiia Muslim controlled.) As a person who wants no war with Iran and reduced foot prints in Iraq, that leaves but 1 party to vote for.

2. Minimum wage: Gitconomics says that:

"Again, simple economics… The minimum wage goes up….. so does everything else, leaving the burger flippers no better off than they were before."

Git, inflation exists. It is not a myth. Every year the US dollar buys fewer goods. By holding the minimum wage constant for over 8 years, the GOP ensured that the Americans with the least amount of purchasing power had less purchasing power year after year. This was insane as the same GOP congress which supported this minimum wage freeze consistently saw to it that tax payers funded their cost of living increases. This is why the minimum wage finally changed Git. GOP economics were not defensible.

3. John Kerry. You missed the point here, Git. If you have issues with a man, address the man. In attacking the Purple Heart earned by Kerry (and not simply attacking the character of Kerry) the GNC attendees attempted to create the impression John Kerry was awarded the Purple Heart for a scratch. As he was awarded this medal under the same process as all other recipients, one could then say all Purple Heart Medals are subject to GNC scrutiny to see if they were "worthy" in the eyes of Republicans (who, by the way, were supporting two men who could never possibly have earned a Purple Heart.) So, you see Git, it is not the differences conservatives have with their opponents. It is the very gutter-level attacks of rivals, be they John McCain in South Carolina or Gov Ann Richards in TX (pictures of men kissing put on cars in church parking lots and attributed to Ann Richard's social stances). It is exemplified here with Denise referring to Jimmy Carter as the "peanut farmer" to his son; never mind the presidency and nobel Prize. look at the nonsense the infantile Beaver wrote about him. This is what "conservatism" has become. I believe the entire Plame affair goes to the heart of the compassionate conservative attack machine; a heart and culture that I can't align with. This machinery had generals debating whether or not to speak their true feelings on the Iraq war. Democrats are framed as wimpy and milk toasts becuase they typically do not match the GOP slime for slime. And when democrats have foot in mouth like the Congressman from California (insinuating the president was amused at US deaths in Iraq), they APOLOGIZE. Valerie Plame has yet to even have the slightest feelings of remourse expressed to her about her compromised identity. The President never apologized for saying, on the election trail, "a vote for the democrat party is a vote for the terrorists." That is absurd speech from our challenged speaker, and that does not earn the GOP my allegiance.

I believe that the government headed by Bill Clinton was less secretive, less vindictive, more bi-partisan, and more honest where American policy mattered. MAny historians and political scientists agree. John Dean (Conservatives Without Conscience) is one of note. Yes, the president had an affair (like Gingrich, Delay, Vitter, and Packwood who all had the nerve to attack him), but our country enjoyed much more international cooperation than we do now. Even our NATO allied countries like Germany and England give us a 39% favorable rating. This does not bode well when fighting a global war on terror requiring international cooperation. Conservatism has had almost 8 years to actually catch Bin Ladden and balance a budget. Neither had been done. I'm voting for a new sherrif to tackle the job. I can't think of a good reason to keep the old ones on the job. And as much as you would like, there is no third party candidate that is electable; not even close.

Or I wasn’t clear. I read the piece you posted and they are all angry with Kerry’s Congressional testimony which is fair enough. If Kerry wants a friend in politics he should get a dog. My argument with the Swift Boaters was only that they mischaracterized his military service in their attacks. Purple Heart band-aids? But no, I am not calling any of them liars. I believe that they are very, very sincere in their disdain for Kerry’s Congressional testimony.

As to the rest, well maybe later. I promise to rehash it all during the election season.

Ok. Fair enough. I will admit that I can't speak for Kerry's Purple Heart awards. I'm beginning to wonder how we got off on that in the first place. That's the last thing I have a desire to argue about. We'll get off that unless Hack wants to Hack away at it.

However, I'm still disappointed in the fact that the only accountability I see being demanded from yourself, Hack and the "D's" is that of the Republicans. My entire point in challenging Hack and yourself is 'that' hypocrysy in general. Then I had to go after every other fly ball you guys were hitting out there to me. All I'm asking is that you guys hold yourselves to the same standards that you expect the Republicans to hold themselves to. Start with that corrupt gangster senator from New York who calls herself a woman.

The only three candidates that are contenders, that I see as being somewhat credible in integrity is Richardson, Huckabee and maybe Obama. Although I have to wonder about Obama in regards to that nut case hate monger he calls his preacher.

Obama's hate mongering preacher? Rush and them slandered him a few months back claiming he had attended a radical Islamic madarasa but it was later revealed to be a lie. Obama attends Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago's South Side. Hadn't heard about any hate mongering.

As far as integrity, I'm agreeing with your list but what's wrong with Edwards?

We'll have plenty of time to hash it out.

Just a little on Obama's hateful preacher. You can just feel the 'Jesus' oozing out of him. Shocked

Wright takes the pulpit one Sunday and solemnly, sonorously declares that he will recite ten essential facts about the United States:

“Fact number one: We’ve got more black men in prison than there are in college,” he intones. “Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!” There is thumping applause; Wright has a cadence and power that make Obama sound like John Kerry. Now the reverend begins to preach. “We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training of professional KILLERS. . . . We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God. . . . We conducted radiation experiments on our own people. . . . We care nothing about human life if the ends justify the means!” The crowd whoops and amens as Wright builds to his climax: “And. And. And! GAWD! Has GOT! To be SICK! OF THIS [EXPLETIVE]!”

The expletive was the SH word. No doubt God is sick of his stuff.

"The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now."

"This racist United States" … "The United States of White America."

"Bush administration bullsh--."

The above are just a couple more notable Rev. Wright quotes.

"If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me. I said this to Barack personally, and he said: 'Yeah, that might have to happen.'"

Wow! Even Gawd's own Rev. Wright admits that he's a weight around Obama's neck. LOL!

Sorry Jeff. Edwards is a self absorbed sleazy lawyer. That guy is just altogether creepy. But, he would be piece of cake to expose. Like you say... "We'll have plenty of time to hash it out". If Edwards becomes a player we'll deal with him then.

Hack? Flying? I'm just hoping he doesn't plan on strafing my house. I think I set him off. Shocked

Beav, the term "democrat" was first used in 1790 in France to describe those who opposed the aristocracy. They won that one too.

Jeff, the distinction between a republic and a democracy has been addressed before, more than 200 years ago, as a matter of fact ("JeffC -- Democracy").

The word democracy derives from the ancient Greek demokratia, formed from the roots demos (the mob, the many) and kratos (rule or power).

Federalist No. 10 warns of the dangers of a democracy: "Democracies have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."

The Founding Fathers established a constitutional republic rather than a democracy to protect the individual from the majority ("the mob").

(U.S. Constitution, Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion. [What about an invasion of illegals? Puzzled ])

(See also DEMOCRACY VS. REPUBLIC that Beaver linked to when you asked this question before.)

The French "democrats" were the ones who murdered between 18,500 and 40,000 people in a period of 10 months during the Reign of Terror. Blood flowed in the streets from Madame Guillotine and mob beatings.

"Most of the people rounded up were not aristocrats, but ordinary people. A man (and his family) might go to the guillotine for saying something critical of the revolutionary government."

Robespierre: "Terror is nothing other than justice, prompt, severe, inflexible."

The old maxim "the end justifies the means" describes Robespierre's policy well. Yes, I do see similarities.

Come on Beaver. Ease up on Jeff a bit. That's his dad for goodness sake. It's not like Jeff throws his presidential dad in our faces or anything like that. Who knows all the grief and ugliness he's had to endure over the years. I'm certainly not a fan of President Carters leadership, but even I recognize that there's a time and place and this isn't either. There's nothing you or I can say regarding his dad that he hasn't already heard whether it's true of false. The guy makes an effort in being friendly and civil in spite of our sometimes hefty differences.

Believe me... I understand it's hard to not to say something once in a while, especially when the former president injects himself into some issues in questionable manner regarding our side. But, we're not going to accomplish anything by trying to win this particular battle. Even Git knows when to bite his tongue. Okay, okay.... Let me rephrase that. Sometimes Git knows when to bite his tongue. LOL!

But it’s really OK. You’re right that I’ve heard it all but it really doesn’t bother me. I’ll either respond or brush it off. I’ve had years and years of it. Someone saying he’s a joke just shows they don’t have an argument which they can articulate so they resort to name calling. Ho-Hum. Been there, done that. A hundred times. More.

I like this blog. Denise is a challenge. You are a challenge. I miss Mixer.

Real, serious comments I like to respond to. Otherwise, I’d just go away. I write serious stuff elsewhere that nobody here ever sees. This is a fun one. As long as people leave my wife and kids out of it (and y’all know there have been incidents, though not on this blog…), then policy differences with him are fair game.

So Git, thanks for biting your tongue sometimes, and I appreciate how 99% of the people on the blog are civil and ask coherent questions and express sincere opinions.

And Git, Al Franken is a friend of mine. He’s going to be a hoot when he’s in the Senate!
Man, I can’t wait!

But don't tell anyone..... I wouldn't want to lose my 'man card'.

I still read the blogs from time to time...especially those you and Denise jump in to the middle of (for the obvious reasons). I actually do miss you guys.... I even miss basmati a little ... not the meanness but the intellect.

In case you haven't read Clarence Thomas' new book, My Grandfather's Son, read it. Besides, the good ole' Georgia boy could use the cash!

Hutch! Now you've gone and locked that image in my mind. I need a bath, followed by a shower and chased with Jerimiah weed!

You in OKC? Go out to what used to be the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. It's now called the Western Heritage Center. Then go eat at the Cattleman's Steak House at the stockyards on Agnew Blvd. It's only a couple of miles away from the airport. Get the Ribeye, the house salad dressing, croutons, pintos and a piping hot cup of Cain's coffee to down that piece of meat with. Cowboy style! Smiling

If you see some old guy in an old beat up GMC truck with the best looking and biggest Limousine cattle West of the Mississippi wave to him and tell him Howdy. It'll probably be my dad taking them to stockyards immediately behind the restauraunt.

Oh well. Git on the Will Rogers Turnpike and head Southwest about two hours and you'll be in OKC. No biggy. It's like driving from Fayetteville to Northpoint Mall. Something I hope I never do again as long as I live. Smiling

Beav, you can't offend me. I've had WAY to much practice to be put off by anonymous bloggers; otherwise I'd play somewhere else! What do you think I do... go to his office and look at his Nobel Peace Prize and say to myself, "(insert expletive), I could be happy if only the Beaver liked him"?

Did you miss the link to the definition of a democrat? Laughing out loud

I value private education. Do Democrats? Puzzled

The explanation was for those who were not so blessed or just uninformed. Smiling

I didn't miss it, I read it. Guess I'm not a Democrat after all!

The private education thing was a joke too or at least a sly comment (although I did attend some private schools).

FYI: I do not like the D's stance toward schools. I support public schools, private schools, vouchers, vouchers for religious schools, vouchers for trade schools and any other way you want to educate your kids.

So we may be on the same page on this one. Way out on the fringe together (sly comment). Who'd a thunk it?

How about working on the Dems to promote vouchers? You need more to do, don't you? A REAL challenge! Laughing out loud

Besides staring longingly at that Nobel Peace Prize! Maybe The Citizen should award its own "peace" prize?

Don't guess you can buy those little cap busters anymore. Remember the children's pistols with the roll of red tape that had a black dot (powder) that made the noise?

Yes you can Susie. I found them in a store not to long ago. I should have bought a set. Of course these days they would earn a 6 year old at least a 15 year sentence. Shocked

You know if you took your finger nail and scratched across the cap, you could make those things pop with out using the gun at all. Or you could tap them with a small rock a shoot 'em off too. Just ask any 45 - 65 year old guy. They'll tell ya! Smiling

And they would often scorch your fingernails black when you scratched them.

Take the caps, fold them three or four or more dots together in a wad, then hit them with a hammer or something to get a good bang.

Remember the strike anywhere matches (outlawed in many places now)? You could throw a fistful on the street and they would all ignite. Pretty cool at night if thrown from a car. Of course, in this drought, you would be in danger of burning down the entire state of Georgia.

Then there's baseball cards, clothes pins and bicycle spokes....

Submitted by susieq on Sun, 10/21/2007 - 5:33pm.

We had to use a hammer. If our mother saw scorch places on our fingers, she would "skin us alive."

These caps would actually SMOKE, just like a real gun.

I've got a deck of cards with a couple of 'em missing. Wait til I teach the girls this trick. After that I'll have to show 'em how to do a Wet Willy. Smiling
