On top of that, why weren't there articles about the Collins Hill or South Gwinnett competitions? I know of at least one Fayette band at both of those (McIntosh), and they came home with trophies, so why isn't stuff like this mentioned?

And, honestly, I just wish there was more coverage on marching bands in general. I marched for all 4 years in high school, and I'm planning on joining a drum and bugle corps this summer (if you don't know what that is, search DCI on google). Not only have I had to deal with just a general lack of coverage and recognition (even when we did really well), but I also had to deal with alot of flak from fellow students who don't like the activity.

Sorry, mini-rant there. But still, I just wish there was a bit more coverage of the marching bands. I enjoyed the video clips that were posted from the County Exhibition this year, but can't we please just have a bit more than that? Please? Do I have to beg? Just kidding. But still.

You'll have to write it yourself, I've never seen a article about those on this site, the Tigers have been in two so far and I've seen nothing in print yet.

You're kidding aren't you. Do you think this is fair, all the hype about football? Now you tell me I have to write it myself. I am sorry if football is news, so is Marching Band. This is not directed to you but to the newspaper.

It's there job to be fair and equal. I support football teams, do I care for football much, not much. The point is I find it sad that the newspaper can support football but not Marching Bands!

It takes just as much or even more talent to do what a Marching Band does than football. Plus, they are treated the same by the schools they go to. The football or other sports always get all the credit.

I find it sad that they don't appreciate the time or work these Marching Bands do to support their schools by playing for them in support of them.

Wake up Citizen- Be the newspaper that does the right thing!

I got a nephew that does plays at his school and once his teacher sent in the info (dates, cost, cast) it made it into the paper. I e-mailed them something about my sister's bowling team about a year back and that made it in the paper too.

It may not be fair, but you know, not everything can be on the radar of the paper.

By the way, the Fayette band rocks! They are the loudest I have heard all year - show great school spirit and I love the Spanish dancing thing they do at halftime.

Go Tigers !!!

AS a Marching Tiger dad, I thank you for the compliment.

Look here, here and here for articles and a video of local band competitions. Also, I noticed that there are a bunch of photos from local bands' half-time shows in The Citizen's photo gallery here

It's as easy as doing a search on the site to find this info. Besides, I'm going to tell you what my mom always told me, "Life's not always fair, so you better get used to it!"

If the above isn't enough for you, why don't you start a weekly blog about all of the bands' movements? Apparently you would have a large audience for that. Otherwise, try calling or emailing the paper with the info you claim they are lacking.

Either do something or quit whining.

Thanks for you lack of information, the only one my son was in was the "Fayette exhibition one at Sandy Creek High School. The others don't even apply to him or the school he goes to. Maybe the paper should just put half of the football scores up when they play games, how would everyone like that? No, life is not fair - it's sad that people don't value kids the same regardless of what they do- not only Football. By the way I don't work for the paper, it's their job to do the reporting.

bpr,
Would you be kind enough to run that one by us one more time regarding praying, being "established," and God's will? Also, does that apply to "healing," or can it apply to other things?
Thanks,

I have been reading all that has been written on this subject. Are you trying to be nasty to bpr? If so, why don't you ask you questions to Father David Epps?

My high school grad class had 600 members. From what I can tell from class reunions the band members are some of the most successful. They seem to be the "group" with the most college grads. The 2 doctors I know of both were in the band. Not to say football players aren't successful, just my observation on the whole group of 600. I wasn't in the band, I would've paid more attention to the doctors.

They would cover it.

How was the crowd at this competition? Does it compare to the crowd when 2 schools get together and play football? That may tell you what you need to know.

Yes, lots more, you could not find a place to sit. What is the Citizen excuse now?

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Sat, 10/20/2007 - 8:01pm.

They filled up both sides at $5 to $7 bucks a head?

Why would it be surprising? We pay that much to go to a football game, and half of the people there are to see their kids or grandkids in the band. By the way, some people enjoy seeing the bands and supporting real talent. If you were not there, why question it just ask Hutch. I guess you go just for football. It's a shame that people don't care enough about young kids that they think parents and other people only interest is football. Like I said before, do I care much for football, no but I support them, I expect the same respect from everyone else. That's not much to ask.

What is the Citizen's answer now?

If you want to see how full it can get come by FCHS next saturday and check out the crowd, we'll have 11 or 12 bands plus parents and relatives throughout the day, come by about 9 or 10 pm and you'll not believe it.

Sounds like fun, I've seen a few competitions in my day. My Wife was a marching Redcoat at UGA, so I know it's hard work.

And to BPR, think of this blog as free advertising. Without my inquiries, questions, this pub wouldn't be out there.

He would be surprised wouldn't he? By the way there is another one at Warrer Robbins next Sat. I am sure it will be filled also. Only 30 bands will be there. I guess Dawg doesn't think anyone enjoys Marching Bands.

I happen to be proud of my Son, he has alot of talent, and like I said before and you know these kids work just as hard or harder to perform. I just don't think the Citizen is doing it's job by just reporting on Football games. Don't you think they should respect Marching Bands as much as we do their Football? My son also plays Soccer I guess Dawg will be there since he only likes sports. But of course the all the hype about Soccer isn't there like Football.

Either way The Citizen has dissapointed me in their lack of reporting.
