A Fayetteville woman faced three cruelty-related counts in an Oct. 13 incident at her home when police were called after her 7-year-old son could not awaken her.

Tricia Cordova, 34, was charged with cruelty to children, reckless conduct and contributing to deprivation, according to Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw.

Crawshaw said police received a call at approximately 2:15 p.m. from the father of the 7-year-old boy. The man said his son had tried unsuccessfully to awaken his mother, Crawshaw said. Officers arrived at the Cobblestone Boulevard residence where the child opened the door, explaining that he could not wake his mother. Officers reported the smell of alcohol and what appeared to be the smell of burned marijuana in the house, according to incident reports.

Officers were able to rouse Cordova to a point where she was partially responsive, Crawshaw said. Cordova told officers she taken drugs and had been drinking, apparently in relation to a party the previous evening, Crawshaw said.

The woman and her son were checked by paramedics. The father arrived at the residence and took custody of the child, said Crawshaw.

Crawshaw said it is unknown how long Cordova had been in an unresponsive state or whether the child’s parents shared the same house.

Thats a crying shame..it really is. I lived in Cobblestone a number of years of go, before it got crappy, it was a decent place. Now it has turned into the ghetto, there are some good people in there who are stuck by situation, but overall the population of the complex is that of Riverdale. There is more dope and gang banging going on in there it isn't even funny. But if you address these problems to management they just shrug it off and mention occupancy numbers instead of quality of life.
