Paper shouldn’t print perps’ job info

I am a local business owner and am very disappointed in a recent article published in your newspaper. The article appeared in your September 29, 2007, issue and dealt with some local drug arrests.

In the article, your newspaper gave out the employers of Shane and Danilo Gregorovic, who were arrested for various drug-related charges. Their arrests had nothing to do with where they work, and they were arrested at their home.

However, naming the employers, in this case, can potentially be very damaging to both employers and many children. Mr. Gregorovic was employed by my daycare center, LaFayette Kid’s World, and Mrs. Gregorovic was employed by a local private school for special needs students.

Information about their occupations was completely irrelevant to the story. Furthermore, no information about the places of work were given for any of the other people arrested.

I am completely offended and would like for you to understand that publishing that information is not only detrimental to my business, but to the many kids and families served. If any further information is to be published about the Gregorovics, I would greatly appreciate you leaving my business out of the article.

I have lived in Fayette County all of my life and place ads in your paper often, but will not continue to do so if your paper continues to publish articles harmful to innocent adults and children.

Since employees at a day care center are in constant contact with innocent kids, what type of pre-screening devices (relative to moral turpitude) and drug tests does LaFayette Kid's World provide? How do parents know this will not happen again? These are fair questions that parents should be asking!

SEcret Squirrel is right on. Ms. Kent is more concerned about her business than what the day care kids have been exposed to. I don't know what she expected from writing her letter.

That Ms. Kent's main concern here is that people now know that she hires drug users, not that it impacts "innocent adults and children" belies her true motives.

What's worse, Paige? You hiring drug users to work with innocent children or that people know you do?

Your umbrage is greatly less compelling when one realizes just how self-serving your comments are. This is one you're best advised to let go away quietly.

Perhaps instead you can focus on better pre-employment screening and rectifying those issues ("serious roach problem" and poor kitchen hygenie) revealed as "partially met" or "not met" for the last two state monitoring studies for your facilities:

Bright from the Start State Reports for LaFayette Kid's World-Carnegie

Bright from the Start State Reports for LaFayette Kid's World-Marquis

No, I'd say you have bigger things to worry about than this paper revealing the fact that you have poor employee screening procedures.

Paige,
I strongly disagree with you. Both of these people worked with or near children. That is very relevant info to parents of children in the daycare and private school. Especially if they remained on campus while charges were pending.
