McIntosh selected as Blue Ribbon School

Tue, 10/02/2007 - 6:45pm
By: The Citizen

McIntosh High School was one of eight Georgia public schools that have been chosen for 2007 National Blue Ribbon designation, announced State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox Wednesday afternoon.

"These are eight schools that are leading the way in academic achievement and improvement," said Superintendent Cox. "In Georgia, we know how great these schools are. Now, the whole country knows it too."

McIntosh won the award for scoring in the top 10 percent of all schools in student achievement.
Representatives from these schools are invited to attend an awards ceremony hosted by the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. November 12 and 13. They will also be honored by the state at an event next year.

Yes, we are all buddies. You can be our buddy, too.

There are two things you must do:
(1) Say you're sorry for trashing McIntosh.
(2) Decide which name you're going to use.

That's all it takes.

No thank you, I don't want to be buddies, I think our morals and values are not the same. I see everyone equal, regardless of money, etc. I did not trash anyone, plus I have morals and values that you don't have. I don't call you names like your friend Git Real did. Please grow up and be adults- And as if I didn't know smile and bpr wouldn't show up as the same, lol, I wanted to see how much time you guys spend doing this. By the way Git Real I have good friends at Whitewater also, that's why I asked what's wrong with Whitewater. Please Git Real, I have not trashed PTC, there is an attitude when you move here that PTC is the only place to live. I seem to differ on the subject, I didn't say they were brats, I just said how most in PTC choose to live. I value people regardless how they live, but PTC needs to value everyone else. You have to admit there's some of this is the only place to live going on. Oh, by the way what's wrong with Whitewater?

We moved here 23 years ago From the North (gasp). Gwinett and Fayette were the two counties always vying for best of the state back then. Sorry Gwinett but no contest.
Our daughter went on to Emory with a full and I mean full scholarship including a time at Oxford (England).
Our son got a legal degree at Pitt in conjuntion with an MBA at Carnegie Mellon.
Sorry for the bragging but my point is that their base education was McIntosh and I can't help but think that school might have done something right along the way.

The best that I know about this school is DRUGS and SMART A** KIDS. Blue Ribbon my butt. Where is Whitewater High on the so called list? Or was the results based on MONEY?

Submitted by fay on Thu, 10/04/2007 - 10:29pm.

I don't know why people take such pride in picking on McIntosh. We moved here from a midwestern state which has always prided itself on quality education. McIntosh certainly competes with the schools there. I think, in general, people are jealous of the extra income that Peachtree City residents earn and spout nonsense because of it. I'm not going to apologize for being well-to-do (and not in debt). As kids, most of us studied while others goofed off and watched TV. In high school we studied while others partied. In college we studied and worked several part-time jobs to pay our tuition while others kept partying and took full-time jobs so that they could have the satisfaction of bringing in cash to pay for their beer and illegitimate children. So now, we are making $250,000 and you are complaining because you are poor and we were born with silver spoons in our mouths. Most of us put those silver spoons in our own mouths through good decision-making and hard work. We McIntosh parents are teaching our children to make equally good decisions. My kids don't do drugs or smoke. They are in advanced and gifted programs, play some sports, and are all-around good kids. Certainly, not everyone attending the school is smart. Nor is everyone squeaky clean morally. But as a whole, they are head and shoulders above the rest. The school deserves its award, and those hard-working kids deserve that award -- without people trying to bring them down. Keep your sour grapes to yourselves.

Whitewater if a fine high school. I know dozens of young people that attend there and my girls will be attending there also in a couple of years. I know Whitewater very well and the culture which represents the students and parents of this classy school. With that said let me just say that you are a classless and shameless tart that in no way represents Whitewater High School. Furthermore, there is no need for anyone from Whitewater to apologize for your trash mouthed ridiculing of McIntosh High. No need at all because in no way at all do you represent Whitewater.

Now go crawl back in your corner and lick yourself or whatever it is you do while wasting your worthless life away. Eye-wink

Which one of your kids are on drugs? Let me guess the one from McIntosh. Most of the kids at McIntosh are doing or suppling drugs. They are all (almost all) evil. Just a bunch of Smart A**, drug doing, money kids. Tell me I am wrong, because I am not. Look at the records - you will see McIntosh does have a DRUG problem, not FCHS or WHS, or even SMHS (still Rich Kids). Blue ribbon my butt. JoAnn, as a member of the McIntosh Class of 2007, I find myself a bit...oh, what's the word...'pissed' at what you're saying.

First of all, let's go with your generalization that all students at McIntosh do drugs. Since I was a student at McIntosh, that would have to include me, right? Well, I hate to break it to you, but I have never done a single drug in my life, and I never will...I also have plenty of friends who will do the same (and yes, they all graduated from McIntosh, too). Now, I'm not saying that McIntosh is a clean school. Yes, my peers do drugs. But it's not just McIntosh. I don't care what you have to say - there are drug users at EVERY school.

Now, on to what you said about us being smart-a**es. Tell me, what has your experience with McIntosh students been? Or, have you just based all your opinions off the articles and police reports? I'm not going to say that you actually DID, but I wouldn't be surprised. And as for "money kids"...what does that even mean? I'm pretty sure you meant to say "rich kids," but I can assure you that we're not all rich...and I can say that because of the fact that my family isn't rich, and I know several families (from McIntosh) who aren't rich.

You say that McIntosh doesn't deserve that Blue Ribbon. Well, let me say this...the SAT average at McIntosh (can't remember what year...2005?) was higher than all of the other Fayette County schools, and last time I checked, drugs don't make you smarter...

Hopefully you will be able to overcome your ignorance. Have a nice day!

-Matt

I do have to wonder how McIntosh got the blue ribbon award? I read not too long ago about the test scores and I read in the citizen that Fulton County was higher than Fayette or Coweta. I'm not saying your school is bad, but let's face it, PTC is known for only the best live here. I find that sad, I would not want to raise my child in that kind of place, I teach him we are all equal. I know all of you are not rich, you can not live like you do and be rich, how do you get the most expensive houses, cars, golf course, clothes and you are still rich. The truth is PTC is up to their necks in debt. It's just common sense. My son does go to a Fayette County school and honestly at this time, I don't see much difference than when he was in another school. I want communication. I only have it with about 3 teachers. We pay high tax dollars and brag about how we are the best. Well, let's be the best. I am saying I don't understand how your school got the award- there's alot of schools with great scores.

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Wed, 10/03/2007 - 2:40pm.

My child does goes to the best school in the Ga. in Fayette County. As far as insults, if you are talking about what I said about PTC and being rich, it's true. Gee... I think you're a little bitter and jealous. Proof your ramblings a little BPR. We all make grammatical and spelling mistakes from time to time but, you take the cake.

You my dear are nothing less that a bitter and jealous individual that is absorbed with envy. If you had half the brain you pretend to have, then you would do some research and find that most of the "Rich" folks in PTC and across this nation came from very modest origins. They built their families and built their worth the old fashioned way. THEY EARNED IT! Just because you've failed at this task and you're struggling to make the payments on that house you financed with that sub-prime loan you're struggling to pay gives you no cause to trash those who have earned more than you, up to this point.

So shut up and stop trashing on the "rich". I'm tired of your insults. Heck you live in one of the wealthiest areas in the world and enjoy the benefits of the wealth that has been created around you. If you can't appreciate that then why don't you take your Big Protruding Rump and move your unhappy and whining self to somewhere where you could be "rich". Perhaps Africa, Mexico, or Iran suits your desires. Sticking out tongue

These kids are awful. The scool is awful. Come on GA where is the beef? Not the steak the PTC paid for.

You are put the tupid in STUPID. I grew up in SC. Blue Ridge to be exact. We used to kill people just let's see because - look up Dark Corner. You will see. Go off yourself and save the rest of us with our sanity. Goober. Or shall I say tupid. What the H*** does spelling have to do with what I am saying? You seemed to understand. Tupid.

Thomas Jefferson's advice to his daughter Martha:

"Take care that you never spell a word wrong. Always before you write a word, consider how it is spelled, and, if you do not remember, turn to a dictionary. It produces great praise to a lady to spell well."

Learning proper pronunciation would be valuable as well. Smiling

Thomas Jefferson also gave her this advice:

"Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today." -- Pick up that dictionary or at least watch Akeelah and the Bee.

Akeelah: [quoting Marianne Williamson] "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. [Imago Dei: created in the image of God] And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."

"Everybody Wins with Akeelah and the Bee"

Thomas Jefferson: "When angry, count ten, before you speak [or type]; if very angry, an hundred." Laughing out loud
