Peachtree City has been named one of the top 10 places to retire in the United States by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

The city’s cart path system was one of the features lauded in the magazine’s story about Peachtree City. Golf carts are often hailed as a reliable method of transportation for seniors, giving them a way to avoid using their cars all the time.

The story’s author also noted, “Lush greenery eclipses buildings, making the wooded town feel tucked away in its own world.”

Also cited as factors in the ranking were the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater, professional and college sports teams located nearby and two of the city’s flagship corporate headquarters: Cooper Lighting and Southern Motor Carriers.

U.S. News also mentioned a variety of activities in town aimed at seniors, from tennis to more passive offerings at The Gathering Place through the city’s recreation department.

U.S. News did not rank the top 10 cities in order. But it is offering an online search engine to help retirees find communities well-suited to them by selecting their priorities among facets such as low crime rate, weather, location and others.

Also making the top 10 list were: Bozeman, Mont.; Concord, N.H.; Fayetteville, Ark.; Hillsboro, Ore.; Lawrence, Kan.; Prescott, Ariz.; San Francisco, Calif.; Smyrna, Tenn. and Venice, Fla.

I saw the article: it mentioned "dozens of golf courses" I only know of 3.

The article didn't mention the armed robberies or the impending bully tactics of mcBULLY putting in a kohls-drug-sting parking lot.
They didn't mention the cluster homes by the railroad tracks or the fact that we are annexing everything in sight.

They didn't mention that we are short of cops and firefighters for a city of our size. They didn't mention that we pay our safety people less than a normal city "our size". Huh?? Very surprising that all of that wasn't mentioned.

What about TDK going all the way through to coweta? Why aren't we bragging about that? Why aren't we bragging about the empty stores and restaurants?? The article only mentioned the Avenue shopping center? Why? Why didn't we brag about walley-drug-sting?? mcBULLY built that.....surely that is a bragging point?!

I think at one point in our history we really were first class. The direction we are moving is anything but first class, or "upscale".

A better response would be "Congratulations to us. I have always known Peachtree City is a great place to live and now we are getting more recognition." Try that skyspy.

That's how I actually feel. That does not mean we are free of problems, it simply means that this is a great place to live.

I am sorry I am not going to retire here. I find PTC argue over the most silly things- and guess what it is growing, houses, business, how will you drive your golf cart. Atlanta is moving South, so get ready! Plus I don't want to live with a bunch of people that all they do is complain. I live here now, because of work only- believe me I know of alot more better places to live. Oh, and by the way all the people who don't pay their kids attention but think the anwswer to taking care of them is a car, golf cart or something else that will make them think they are important. They will be all grown up, these kids are so so rude on golf cart paths, but they get it honestly- so are their parents. I am concerned for PTC, where are the values?????????

I have lived all over the place, and PTC is by far my favorite place! Pennsylvania comes in a close second, but you have to enjoy the snow to live there.

Things I have observed: the opinions & complaints here on the Citizen are not typically the "true voice" of PTC (not to say there haven't been unifying issues, but the day-to-day pettiness and complaining on the blogs are't shared by my friends and neighbors here); there are rude kids/people anywhere you go, but PTC has a lot less than most other places; crime is everywhere, and despite the doomsday predictions of some "Citizenites", PTC has A LOT less than most other places (including nice, upscale neighborhoods around Atlanta); and I honestly believe you'd have a tough time finding a prettier, nicer, cleaner, friendlier place to live. While PTC isn't perfect, it sure is wonderful - and if it was perfect, it would be Pleasantville, but then again, even Pleasantville wasn't perfect....

And the best thing of all - this is America where we can live wherever we want and believe whatever we want - we can agree to disagree, and you are free to move to someplace you think is better!

... if you don't listen (read) the constant complainer's post & the 3 "old maids".
Evanston, IL was nice. So was Stamford / Ridgefield, CT.
I may not want to retire here; but when I think about moving to Asheville or even Atlanta & the Beltway, I wonder why? I've got an awful lot right here.. a 6 or 8 pointer eating on the golf course.

I did not say we were without detractors and cynical people like you - what I said was "I have always known Peachtree City is a great place to live" And it is.

I didn't say you should judge PTC by the blogs and comments on here or worse yet by the displays of immaturity that crop up in city council meetings and elsewhere.

"I have always known Peachtree City is a great place to live" That's it. And it is true.

Nevertheless, thank you for your articulate and thoughtful response - and by the way - where are you going to retire? Tell us about that better place. Alabama? Tennessee? Florida?

Anywhere I told you I want to retire could not even measure up to your PTC. Believe me they are not rude, grip and complain over silly things- it's in the paper everyday. Plus the value and respect of others are there.

Maybe PTC use to be a great place to live, but things have changed alot in the 11 years I have been here. You can stay here and grip and complain and put up with all the rudeness that goes on. PTC thinks they are better than anyone else. That is so from the truth.

My concern is the way parents raise their kids, money, money, money, where is the value of earn your money?????? They are not even around, they are off doing their fun things, golf, tennis, shopping and by the way kids either a nanny or here is some money go have fun.

PTC is so bad for putting down other counties kids, but it has been known PTC kids drink, do drugs just like they do. So, to me stop being cruel to these others by writing bad things about them and be a solution to our worlds problem with the youth. Oh, by the way their parents maybe can't afford money, money, money, to babysit their kids. All these kids need are there parents attention, love and care in all the counties.

I live here but I don't give my child a hand out even if his friends parents do this. One day he will have to earn his own living, and my job as a parent is to guide him in a way to live a responsible life, that life is not free.

Robert - Lets face it, "Skyspy" has never had a positive thing to say about Peachtree City. He or she needs to move to one of the 9 other top 10 places and bitch and moan.

I think we have a good thing that is sliding downhill.

It sounds like that author just copied another article without even coming here. (dozens of golf courses?)

The buzz words in the article were lots of greenspace and trees, 90 miles of safe paths, and upscale shopping at the Avenue. That is what sells.

Crime, discount stores, and uncontrolled development don't sell. We need to fill our empty space with upscale stores. We need to keep the trees we have. When I first moved here I was told we were a year away from build out. Instead all we hear about is annexing everything possible and more big boxs, and more urban blight of empty stores.

We have to change the direction we are going to stay in the top 10.

I've been here over 3 years now, and I don't see the City sliding. You talk about keeping trees? Where has the City lost trees or green space? We can't keep trees the City doesn't own. We've had one major annexation, and I don't see any more on the horizon. Regarding that annexation, would you rather Tyrone be in charge of that area?

It sounds like to me, you would have been happier if the article had said PTC is one of the worst 10 places to live. Take it for what is is, good press.

As far as crime, how does our crime rate compare to other comparable cities? I'll tell you how, very favorably.

Cheer up, it's not all as bad as you think.

Maybe we could if everyone would be considerate and teach their kids the same. We will see in 10 years how PTC is doing. I am sorry people here do not act happy, they have to keep up with everyone else, drive the best car, live in the best house. If you don't you upgrade so you can have something to talk about to impress ( so you think) people. I want a town with values- and PTC is not it.

I have the best neighbors in Spylass subdivision.

C'mon on down and watch a sunset one evening. It's great.

These negative people don't have a clue. Peachtree City is great and yes I have seen the sunset from the dock and it is wonderful.

The sunset is beautiful where I am going to retire, in fact it is even better. It's not being negative, it's reality.
