Missing The Air Show

First, let me admit I am plain nuts, but not a plane nut. I don’t know a B-1 from a B-2, so if I screw up the names forgive me.

I've been to the Great Georgia Air Show (formerly known as Wings over Dixie) for many years. This year, I'm skipping it. Why? It really was not as good last year. I've endured the heat over the years, staring into the sun to see acrobatics, and the continuous "coming up next" from the announcer touting something big that never seems to come. But it’s always been really interesting. You could get up close to the planes, see them, and gain knowledge of the details… but last year everything was roped off. You could see the front of the planes only in most cases. And I have to admit that I go to see the cool sexy stuff, in other words the military planes. Nearly every bit of that was held last year until the last.
I’ll admit, the guys in their super whatever planes that can do a barrel roll 50 feet over the run way is neat. And it’s neat to see a plane fly straight up into the sun, do a hammerhead and come straight down at the runway, and pull out just in time. But nothing beats feeling that roar in your chest as the big B-1 comes over the run way and floors it. That’s just cool.
Anyway, we had my nephews with us last year, and at 4 and 6 they love the planes but don’t want to sit all day watching them. The end result was that we had to leave before the end last year (there’s some reason we have to get going before 5 nearly every year) and we missed much of the good stuff. So, when the tickets came available this year, I decided to save my money. I’ll miss it the way it was before.

This year will be an Air Force extravaganza, as they're celebrating the AF 60th birthday.

I do hear you about the kids though. They do like climbing in and using their imagination a LOT more than watching the aerobatics.

Maybe just maybe they'll have more along those lines this year. You can always call a friend who goes Saturday and decide to take the younguns Sunday if you want.
