The voters of unincorporated south Fulton were heard Tuesday as the call to form the City of South Fulton failed in a landslide vote.

Numbers from Fulton County Elections Commission showed that 84.7 percent of the 9,640 residents casting a vote decided in favor of the area remaining unincorporated.

Precincts reporting at 10:45 p.m. showed that votes in 32 of 33 precincts, or 96.97 percent, had been counted, with 8,161 electors voting in opposition to the new city and 1,479 in favor.

Election day tallies reflected a voter turnout of 26 percent.

The proposed City of South Fulton was the only one of Fulton County’s five unincorporated areas that opted to remain unincorporated. Chattahoochee Hill Country, Milton, John’s Creek and Sandy Springs had previously voted to establish city-hood.

In the end I think people were not comfortable with the financial information and the lack of public planning. The fear of large tax increases loomed over the process from the start. Besides the troubles of Johns Creek and Milton can't be overlooked.

Best wishes to Chattahoochee Hills

As the 18th drew near you couldnt help but see the signs on every corner in south fulton. "Stand strong-stay unincorporated-vote no". From day one my wishes were for south fulton to stay unincorporated but with the information given to me and my coworkers by key county officials and I quote" we are in shutdown mode" some of us felt the only way to keep the other cities from annexing was for south fulton to become a city. The future of south fulton will ultimately be decided when the legislature kicks back off in january. Its to my understanding that in the last session a bill was passed making it harder for a city to annex. This new bill make come into play if south fulton is to remain unincorporated. Let north fulton break off and become milton county. All of the growth is in south fulton anyway and south fulton can sustain itself and flourish---if. If the state will leave it alone and let it stay unincorporated. The same loud no that was heard on tuesday better be echoing in the capital come january. Some of you folks better get on the phone and contact Bill Edwards office to find out how the county plans to battle the next and final wave of annexations that are about to take place. I hope when the smoke clears the county stays unincorporated. If not, well james, everyone in south fulton will be gobbled up by existing cities and yes TAXES will increase dramatically.
