Why are we like this?

I don't understand why everyone is so against the Goodwill? I'm sure every person that is so upset with this has been to a goodwill or to Riverdale at least once. If not then you don't know what you are talking about. It's a GOODWILL! Maybe you can send some of your bratty spoiled children there to help out and maybe just maybe it will help them become better person. You will still have 2 other Krogers so relax!! It's ok!

We are like this because it will ruin the livelihoods of a lot of hard working people. It will ruin that shopping center full of locally owned/ operated stores. We will be left with too many corporate minded big box stores that don't care one rip about their local community. Companies like Kroger who are so afraid of competition that they won't let anyone else put a grocery in there. Kroger has now proven they don't care what kind of blight they force on this community.
Many of our local seniors get their groceries at the Little Kroger because it is the closest to the center of town and has easy access by golf cart. It isn't part of a sprawling shopping center with traffic flying in from all directions. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities for teenagers in this area – helping some of the local seniors, two other thrift shops etc. We don’t need this social experiment!
If Kroger can't make a go of this location (and they can't - they knew they couldn't when they bought Harris Teeter) then let the lease go. Let the owner find new tenants that are a better match. Kroger won't do that - they want to keep the competition out.
And I have shopped Goodwill in Riverdale - looking for things to help out a local non-profit. It is dangerous. Last time I drove over there I was met by a police officer in the parking lot and crime tape draped around. There had been a shooting in the parking lot by a group that started their confrontation and brandished the gun inside the store. Cop said they were closed for the day. If that is what you want for Peachtree City I am going to guess you are living free at mommy and daddy’s house. It doesn't sound like you have much to lose one way or the other. Goodwill is going to have a very negative impact on the value to Peachtree City and we don’t want it.

That is a very valid point about seniors. But There is golf cart access to both krogers that will be left. There are more Goodwills than the one in Riverdale. Riverdale is a bad part of town no doubt but as many PTC police we have just drivin around picking on people I'm sure they will keep us safe. Why do we need 3 Krogers? Why do we really need 2? Most places have 1 but we are lucky enough to have 3 almost 2. Times are changing and so are the people. I hope nothing bad will happen in our bubble but PTC can't stay perfect. But isn't kroger a large bussiness? So y is Goodwill so diffrent? I think most of this is because most not all ptc citzens are selfish and are not willing to help others and thats how most people see us as so why don't we try to change that? Yes i live with my parents but i'm not a selfish person where i just go shopping all the time i pay bills etc.

It is not about how many Krogers or Publix or McDonalds there are in town. Seriously, who cares? The issue is about the value of people's homes and their property.

Since you live with your folks maybe you should ask them about how hard they have worked to buy that home and keep it up. If you open a store like a Goodwill near a home, then the home will decrease in value and people will move. This does not make them selfish, it makes them smart. If you have paid a lot of money for a house, are you going to let your home decrease in value to the point that you may even lose money? I certainly hope not.

As far as your comment goes about the police dept picking on people, please. Seriously. In the sixteen years that I have been in Peachtree City I have had one bad run in with a cop. Even then he was doing his job. If you are consistantly having problems with the police then maybe the problem is not the guy/gal in the uniform. Maybe the problem is in the mirror.

Well, hope that helps to show you where some of the people are coming from with their posts.

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.
