Should PTC bend its big box rules for an 89,000 square foot Kohl's on Ga. Highway 54 West?

As of Thursday 74% say NO to the land swap motivated by the Hooter's threat. Representing the people would seem to require a no vote by council, Is that too simple?

Back to my old picture, so I can say "I don't have a dog in this fight" with real feelings.

It IS very simple...the residents of Peachtree City have said over and over again NO to big box developers. WHY do we keep having to fight our City Council over the same issues. WE can do something else though...we can get out & vote for our new City Council members that are opposed to developing this city and losing sight of what the city stands for. Look around our city right now...we have empty retail spaces available city wide. Buckhead Brewery (empty for years), Macaroni Grill, SanFranciso Bread Co, Ginza's (empty for years) Little Gym, My Gym, WK Cafe & Half of KMart shopping Center, Wisdom Pointe (behind Mellow Mushroom), and the West side new developement still not fully occupied and already losing 2 large leases, Target shopping center still not fully leased. ALL empty retail spaces that could be utilized. Please take control of our future & do not vote for any candidate that is in favor of handing our city over to money hungry developers.

His letter to the editor was pathetic. We don't have any choice ... cry-cry ... dump the big box ordinance ... tremble-tremble ... the developer man who beat us with a club is really a nice guy.

I can usually hold my temper on these posts, but Lyden belongs at Disney World.

By gosh they had better not sell the idiot Kohls developer our taxpayer owned property.

How many times do the residents of Peachtree City have to show up at meetings, write letters etc. to remind the City Council that we don't want big boxes? In addition to a moratorium on big box construction, maybe we need to add a law banning exceptions to that law? Sort of a legal "No, and we mean it!" ??

We do mean it and it is about time the councilFOOLS and scummey developers( like mcBULLY) started to listen.

i'm really upset at the fact that this is probably going to happen because we all know how peachtree city is. how the hell are we going to "preserve" our city when we're constantly building it up. next thing you know it'll turn into fayetteville given a few years. The problem is IT IS NOT NECESSARY FOR A KOHLS!!! Especially not in that location and especially not in proximity of LINE CREEK, a massive nature area that apparently no one cares about. I'm 21, just moved back to peachtree city from Atlanta and already I find myself wondering if it's going to be the city I grew up in and have come to love. =\

"next thing you know it'll turn into fayetteville given a few years."

What does that mean? Fayetteville is a great town and seldom gets the discussion time on negatives as PTC and other places do!!

Zoes,

Don't let it get to you. You can't possibly take this person serious. Look at the consistent, incorrect grammar that is used. Fayetteville is a great place to live, and is just as good to PTC.

Exactly, what does that comment mean? I don't want Fayetteville to turn into another PTC!!!

Perhaps the author is referring to the dismal state of N. Glynn St. - an example of the mess created from unmanaged strip mall development.

With McMurrain making threats, the neighbors are like OJ's armed robbery victims.

I believe that Mayors Brown, Lenox or Brown would have taken McMurrain to the woodshed with those threats. That is not negotiation or "working with" the city.

This current council is like President Calvin Coolidge whose father once said "It's a good thing you are not a girl for you would always be with child."

Hopefully the chatty style of the poll questions will be ignored by the Planning Commission and City Council.

The neighbors liking something is not the reason to vote yes on this question. The reason to vote yes is that it is a good plan and it conforms with all the restrictions in place.

Or you should vote no - but not because you are afraid of setting a precedent. Vote no if it is a bad plan and it does not conform to the existing standards.

Pretty simple. Whoever it is that writes these questions is trying to be cute and may or may not have an agenda, but in the future, maybe you could play it straight without trying to influence the answer by the wording of the question.

By the way, I voted no because it is a bad plan - and that should set the only precendent we care about - all bad plans get voted down.

Submitted by Citizen_Steve on Thu, 09/20/2007 - 8:22am.

The poll is about a big-box exception, not the quality of this specific plan. The implication of the question to me, is, should development be managed on a deal-by-deal basis or within the constraints of a master plan and supporting ordinances.

Sometimes we do get bogged down in the "chat." Thanks Robert for helping clarify the bad plan.
