It’s been a long hot summer, but things may cool down at Sandy Creek High School’s gym by the middle of September.

The state of air conditioning at the gym has been a sore subject for many of the school’s volleyball boosters. The team has had to practice at Flat Rock Middle School because of the temperature in the gym.

But help is on the way, according to the school system’s facilities director Mike Satterfield.

“I know we’re not working fast enough for a lot of people, but hopefully the gym will be ready for the team’s home opener Sept.18,” said Satterfield.

Originally, the aging air conditioning system was slated to be replaced this summer. But because of other projects, including completing Bennett’s Mill Middle School and an addition at Brooks Elementary, the project got pushed back to next summer.

But starting in June, Satterfield started fielding calls from concerned volleyball boosters.

“I talked to Dr. DeCotis about this and we decided to act as the general contractor for the project and fast-track it,” he added.

The demolition portion of the project was slated to start this week, and Satterfield said everybody is moving quickly on the project.

“I’m not promising it will be done by the game, but I’m hopeful,” he said.

Originally, the aging air conditioning system was slated to be replaced this summer.

The characterization of an "aging air conditioning system" would lead people to believe that SCHS actually had A/C in the gym but for whatever reason it wasn't efficient. However, that isn't the case.

Actually the A/C in SCHS's gym was supposed to be INSTALLED between the 2004 and 2005 school years. So much for that.

I chuckle at the statement: "I talked to Dr. DeCotis about this and we decided to act as the general contractor for the project and fast-track it,” he added.

That is the exact same thing they said about the track at SCHS Last year.

“I’m not promising it will be done by the game, but I’m hopeful,” he said.
He need not promise anything like that because the FCBOE seldom delivers as promised to SCHS.

my redheaded stepchild.' In talking to the guy over Coweta schools, I asked which is more wired for the internet, answer, they all are, if one gets it, they all get it'. Maybe that is what is wrong here. People keep trying to get into the 'best schools' in Fayette. If you treated/made them all equal, that wouldn't be a problem. ROTC not in all schools? Reason for transfer to Sandy Creek for FCHS? sounds like a way get the minorities who are not in their area but still in Fayette county, to go there...more and more...Fayette schools are segragating the blacks to the north.
