Tyrone is losing a police chief. Long-time officer-turned-chief Police Chief David Mullis gave his resignation Aug. 27, citing a career as the reason. Mullis’ resignation is effective Sept. 21. “We are very sorry to have received the resignation of David Mullis as Police Chief for the Town,” said town Manager Barry Amos. “During his tenure as Police Chief he did an outstanding job for the Town and its citizens. David Mullis is well respected throughout the community not only as an outstanding officer but also as person and will be greatly missed. We wish David the best in his new ventures and deeply appreciate his 11 years of service to the town.” Mullis said Thursday he wanted to thank the town, its citizens and the mayor and council for the opportunities they have afforded him during his tenure with the town. Mullis came to the Tyrone Police Department in August 1996, working as a patrol officer, detective and captain. He was appointed interim chief in November 2006 after the retirement of Chief Hay. Mullis was appointed to the chief’s position in March 2007. “As Police Chief, he made several operational changes to the department that resulted in improved moral and increased efficiencies in police operations,” Amos said. “His changes are most noticeable with the recent increase in apprehension of criminal activity suspects.” login to post comments |
