Big industry coming to Fayette?

By: John Munford

A "major Chinese company" may well be coming to Fayette County, judging by an invitation extended to The Citizen Wednesday afternoon by the Fayette County Development Authority and two other regional development organizations.

The invitation does not name the company nor how many jobs it is expected to add to the economy, but a formal announcement on the matter will be made by Gov. Sonny Perdue Sept. 12 at the Georgia Capitol.

According to the invitation the company will be making "a large investment in Georgia."

Local development officials are remaining tight-lipped on any details related to the project.

No other details on the pending announcement are available, but one could surmise the business will provide a significant amount of jobs given the Governor's involvement in the matter and that of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.

what a racist bunch of comments...

all the blacks, mexicans and middle eastern people in Fayette county rejoice... there's a new minority in town!!

I love living here but the constant ethnic/social racism here is a drain...

Jokes are funny... stereotypes are ignorant.. I'm sure none of you have homes where 50% of what's in it is made in China... Oh well, these are the same people that celebrate LOSING a war 150 years ago...

If you're the "new minority in town", then who is the old minority in town? Oh... You must be referring to those green people who we eradicated many years ago. Well, I suppose we got rid of them so, what's to say we can't get rid of you. You're on to us that's fer sure. Guess we're gonna have to send the sheriff's deparment and the Fayetteville police out to capture you and send you to the cannery. Smiling

We have our ways. Eye-wink But then, you're well aware of them.

You could offer some of you fellows two Fifty's, and you would be upset because the serial numbers weren't consecutive.

You have no idea what this is about, and already you're bitching. Let it play out, then at least your whining may have some bearing.

Hmmm lets see.....

The chinese are known for poisoning people, torturing people, and skinning dogs alive to sell to jcpenny as fake fur....

What could they offer us? Toys with mercury paint? Maybe some poisoned dog food? Seriously? This can't be serious.

We don't need rich republican big business moneymakers either. Honestly, why do you think the US barely makes anything now? The public wants decent wages, and businesses want a low production cost for bigger profits. Other countries were willing to accept what amounts to pennies on the dollar because of their currency value. $5 will get you a long way in China. The avg citizen suffers.

Your logic is no better than the spelling of your screen name.

You sound as if you have been burned by big business at some point.
What is your solution?

Talk to the old world southerners. Ask them to say 'Perpendicular' ask Bobby Jones.

I am frustrated by the upper echelon of our govt. Frustrated by the downward decline of our economy, the dwindling middle class, the increase of the working poor. The state of the world at large.

This is a Chinese company that makes heavy construction equipment.

The are very big in Europe and Asia. They compete with Catapillar and similar companies. The plant in PTC will be an assembly plant for parts made in China, shipped here, assembled and sold in this country. From what I understand the investment in the local economy will be substantial to say the least.

They will pay taxes by the way, consume water etc. Maybe WASA will not have the excess capacity to sell, after this place gets up and running. I have heard that they want to be operational within about 18 months. Hopefully they will employ enough people to replace the ones lost by the closing of Photocircuits and layoffs at Panasonic, NCR and Cooper. Why is that a bad thing?

I'll stick to John Deere, Cat, and Case... Thank you very much.

Yup, They also import. But, at least they are not owned by the Communist Chinese Government.

Just so you will know, all of the aforementioned American companies are building factories in China at the present time.

Like it or not, we are in a global economy. If they did not build it here, then they would build it elsewhere and that community would receive the economic benefit. I do not like the Communist connection anymore than the next guy, but communism is a flawed and failing political ideology that will pass away. The faster we get all those Chinese to become consumers, the faster they will turn into good old garden variety capitalists.

Tricycle tractor, that was great for cultivating etc. Not too good for slopes and bushhogging though. It had to be a 50's model.

I'll say this about John Deere's lawn equipment, it is a shadow of the stuff they build 20 years ago. When they went mainstream, and walked away from the local dealers for Lowes etc, the quality has gone down the drain.

Possibly diesel engines?

I heard the Chinese were working either with Cummins or building a similar engine.

MD,

This is an assembly plant. If there are any major parts that will not be Chinese made, I am not aware of them. It has been my understanding from the beginning that the major components would all be shipped here and this would be a final assembly location. No actual manufacturing at all. Could be wrong.

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Thu, 08/30/2007 - 9:01am.

Will they be building a new location, or utilizing an existing one?

Submitted by lawaboveall on Thu, 08/30/2007 - 9:06am.

From what I understand they have bought land near Panasonic. This will be a from the ground up, state of the art, assembly facility.

It maybe Chinese money, but it will be built to U.S. and local standards or not at all.

It's probably just a huge warehouse that's going to be used to dispurse junk around the country into Dollar Stores, Big Lots, Home Depot & Walmart. They don't need our Mexicans. They've got their own cheap slave labor.

Watch...It might be an assembly plant where they're going to assemble a bunch of Made in China parts into this cheap car that's supposed to sell for $10K. Then they'll call it made in America. One good thing about lead paint is that it lasts a lot longer than the stuff we use these days.
