A proposed rezoning for a 21-acre shopping center on Ga. Highway 74 across from Holly Grove Road was tabled by the Peachtree City Council Thursday night.

Council members Stuart Kourajian and Cyndi Plunkett said they were uncomfortable voting on the rezoning because they hadn’t had time to review several last-minute changes to the zoning ordinance written for the parcel.

The postponement also allows for the development to be considered in a more appropriate context, as council will also be considering a rezoning for a proposed senior housing development that if approved would be located behind the shopping center.

The rezoning would change the zoning designation for the parcel from general industrial to general commercial. The ordinance outlines a variety of uses that could not take place on the property, ranging from auto sales and auto repair facilities to pawn shops, storage facilities and adult-oriented stores and services.

Build another shopping center?

How much more shopping do we possibly need in PTC? I just hope the council and mayor come to the realization that we have plenty of shopping and restaurants here. Enough with one store after another. Do we really want this city to turn into Fayetteville, or worse still, Newnan?
