After site outage, The Citizen Online prepares a big move

To our readers:

The Citizen website was offline for nearly 12 hours Aug. 15 and 16 because of an equipment failure at CyberWurx, a data and hosting center in downtown Atlanta. The outage also affected many dozens of other sites hosted at that location.

The outage was beyond our control, but we apologize for any inconvenience to you, our readers.

The outage also may have affected the general speed of loading and posting comments and stories. We are working on that problem as well.

Coincidentally with the problems at our current hosting center, The Citizen is preparing this week to move our website operations to another center with greatly expanded bandwidth and server capabilities.

Once that move is accomplished, you will notice significantly improved speeds, performance and reliability, as well as a growing number of site enhancements.

Please bear with us through this transition period.

And thanks to the more than 10,000 readers who have become registered users of our site and to the multiple tens of thousands of unique visitors to our site every month.

New things are coming, and we think you'll like them.

I had trouble this afternoon logging in. I did not realize that The Citizen was having 'puter' problems. Fran, the Webmaster, was most patient and helpful. Thank you Fran and The Citizen - for your southern courtesy and expertise!!

Great news Cal. Thanks and I'm excited and sure there are a bunch of others that will be excited about the enhanced speeds and the new site enhancements.

Cal and the Staff should be congratulated for bringing top news stories to the population seven days a week -- with frequent updates on major stories! You folks are setting standards for others to emulate!! Few communities have the interactive forums we do via the Citizen. Know that it is just going to get better and better!!

THANKS TO THE CITIZEN!!!
