Fayetteville police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Dollar General Store at the Banks Station shopping center Sunday evening.

The assailant pulled a gun on the manager, forced the manager into the back office and made her open the safe, police said.

The gunman told the manager to wait in the office for 20 minutes and said that if she tried to follow him out he would shoot the clerk working the front register, police said.

The manager then waited 20 minutes before calling her supervisor, who then called 911, police said. Officers responded to the scene at 7:38 p.m. and are continuing to follow up on leads Monday, police said.

The manager encountered the assailant in the back of the store when the suspect asked to use the restroom, police said. The manager replied that the store didn’t have a public restroom and he needed to move back to the front of the store, police said.

That was when the man pulled a gun from under his shirt and demanded the money, police said.
No one was injured during the incident, but an undetermined amount of cash was taken from the store, police said.

The suspect was described as a dark skinned black male, six feet tall, weighing 240 pounds and wearing blue or black jeans, a yellow and green striped shirt, black shoes and sunglasses, police said.

The suspect may have left the area in a dark four door car with a black female driver, police said. Police do not believe this is the same pair that used a baseball bat to rob the Zaxby’s restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 near the Fayette Pavilion because their descriptions don’t match, police said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the Zaxby’s case, which involved a black man and black woman wearing ski masks who forced employees into a cooler, grabbed cash and got away Monday night Aug. 6 as the store was closing, police said.

This is the second time the Dollar General has been robbed this year. The last incident occurred May 18 when the suspect initially posed as a customer buying a drink and then pulled a gun on the cashier, police said.

Is this not the second time within a year that this store has been robbed by a gunman? Is it not time for an 'eye in the sky' for that strip? It is right next door to Village Cafe -- we think -- and, sure the Village Cafe is not thrilled with the attention their next door neighbor is receiving. While visiting the Village Cafe this past weekend, did notice a lot of loitering in that area. May mean that additional FPD folks are going to have to start cruising more frequently.

This particular place has crime once per day, or more.
The cheap theater and the huge parking lot attract some of them.
Cops don't mess around there unless called!

I can understand why the manager waited to make a phone call, but WHY WHY WHY call her supervisor before calling 911?

People, please... if you need 911 and can use the phone, CALL. Don't call your supervisor, husband, best friend, or whoever. CALL 911! Help will get to you faster if YOU make the call, rather than a 3rd party.

If the police would allow retailers or others to have a direct buzzer to the police DURING the robbery, (Usually a foot button) it would soon get around and stop much of this robbery like Jessee James.
Now I will await your excuses why the police don't want to do this!
911 has to wait until they are long gone!

Oh great, now there are 2 pairs of thugs running around terrorizing Fayetteville businesses and citizens. Time to go out and buy another gun.

I sent hubby out yesterday evening to pick up a few last-minute things for supper. He headed over to Food Depot, and called me in a bit of a panic when he was heading out to the car to load up the groceries, and was immediately surrounded by police cars. He called to make sure my Glock was in my car-- because he didn't know WHAT was going on. He had to have walked out right after the robbery happened, and he said that within minutes there were City of Fayetteville and Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies everywhere. This makes me sick to my stomach. It's just another sign that Fayetteville is going to hades in a handbasket... How sad.

What had your husband done to be surrounded?
Did he have his Glock?

I also noticed today where Fayette County (Peachtree City) had two arrests for distributing dope.

Who are they distributing it to in PTC There would have to be a number to make it worthwhile!

Are these distributors minorities? Must not be or there would have been scores of hang em, hang em, blogs by now!

And I thought alcohol was the biggest dope problem in PTC!

Now dollar, don't get your panties in a wad just because we point out that the majority of crimes in Fayetteville are committed by minorities.

I didn't say who. I don't know. I asked!
Do white collar crimes count? Like, you know a million or two missing from the Tennis Center, Cops station built on a dump, etc.?
