The run up to election time in November is drawing closer. Candidates interested in running have just over two weeks to make their decisions and prepare for the qualifying period beginning Aug. 27. Seats for various offices will be open in Union City, Fairburn, Palmetto and Chattahoochee Hill Country. Qualifying in the new city of Chattahoochee Hill Country will include the offices of mayor and all five council seats. Qualifying fees are $375 for council seats in each of the five districts and $495 for mayoral candidates. Qualifying dates are Aug. 27-31 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Qualifying material must be submitted at the Fulton County complex located at 141 Pryor Street, Room 4070. For more information on Chatt Hills qualifying visit the Election Update section at http://chatthills.org Next door in Palmetto, Mayor Clark Boddie, Councilwoman Joyce Baker and Councilmen Thomas Morrow and Leon Sumlin are up for re-election. Qualifying dates are Aug. 27-29 with registration between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at city hall. Qualifying costs for mayor are $42 and $30 for council seats. All council seats in Palmetto are at-large. In Fairburn, there will be three city council seats up for grabs, with Councilman Ron Alderman and Councilwomen Frankie Arnold and Marian Johnson up for re-election. The qualifying cost for the seats is $45. Qualifying dates are Aug. 27-29 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. All council seats in Fairburn are at-large. And in Union City, Councilwomen Helen Turner and Alisa King are up for re-election. The qualifying cost for a council seat in $234 with qualifying dates running Aug. 27-31 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Both are at-large seats. login to post comments |
