County names interim attorney

By: John Thompson

In another twist in Fayette County's attorney saga, Peachtree City's Don Comer was named interim county attorney Thursday night. Comer was announced after Commissioner Peter Pfeifer objected to holding an executive session without an attorney.
After Pfeifer's objection, interim county administrator Jack Krakeel announced that Comer had been retained as an interim attorney. Comer will bill the county $150 an hour for his services, Krakeel explained.

that's what did Clayton in. And all that happened under developer oriented good old boys, a Braying donkey and an old Griswelly bear. Ask your new interim Fayette County county attorney who advised them how to get things done there.

I am so tired of hearing put downs for other counties. Every county has good and bad and if you don't think so you are arrogant and deceiving yourself. Stop being so judgmental and get a life.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Sun, 08/12/2007 - 8:23pm.

I have often wondered what "get a life" means? Maybe you can explain it to me?
Another one is "going down," like, I didn't know what was going down until it happened. You know, like?
Another one is "like." You know, "like" he said she said, like?
Another one is "you know," most of the time I DON'T know, and I don't know what is meant, like, you know?
I'm serious, I just have a hard time conversing there, you know?
Or do you?

Submitted by sb7427 on Sun, 08/12/2007 - 9:34pm.

Well..it's nothing like "going down" "you know" or anything like that. It's common sense if you have any. It means think about something worth thinking about with your life other than being racist and judgemental or do something worthwhile with your life other than trying to keep innocent people out of your county..last time I checked this is a free world and people from Clayton County can shop, work, visit and move anywhere in Fayette County that they desire no matter what race or nationality they are. What in the world does dollar a day and found mean? Nevermind...I don't want to know -- I have more important things to do.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Mon, 08/13/2007 - 6:42am.

Oh, I see now?????? No I don't!

Going down is nothing like, going down, huh? OK. I thought arrests went down? Where ever "down" is?

I do not remember ever trying to keep anyone out of my county! Wouldn't know what to say or do! Some I would like to keep out of the USA if I could.

dollar = pay

They mean ' they don't want black people'...it's just more nice to say Clayton County and Riverdale and Fulton etc. are bad and 'we don't want that kind' of poeple here.

Race has nothing to do with it. We hate criminals.

Black people are the only ones who keep bring up race to try and get everyone to feel sorry for them. It is pure bunk and you know it. You are just trying to see how far you can push the race card to get a free handout. That kind of mentality stinks more than rat farts.

I could do that to. My grandparents escaped from Nazi Germany with nothing more than a suitcase. No trustfund. Nothing other than a desire to be free. Once here they worked hard to be self-supporting. They didn't whine incessantly. They didn't collect welfare. They WORKED! It sounds like that is a new concept for you. Here is another new one for you: HARD WORK NEVER KILLED ANYONE!!!!!

Everybody in this world could just sit back and claim(??) that they have been wronged(?) Here is wild idea you could just work hard at being successful! My grandparents were able to be self-supporting within a single generation. Here we are 30yrs later and you people are still whining instead of getting on with the buisness of being successful. The ajc reported some interesting stats on crime throughout the country not just ATL. Did you read it?? Did you take it to heart and resolve to do better in your community??

We hate crime! The article in the ajc stated that across the country 93% of crime is still black on black crime......if the shoe fits.....

What are we going to do about all this race crap that gets entered into ever facet of our lives on a daily basis. I understand many issues of the Black community and the White community has legitimate ones also. But man... I'm seeing very little hope these days with race relations issues. It's frustrating as hell and sickening at the same time and we're all caught up in this {{{{EDITED & COMMENDED}}}} Sad

I can recall numerous examples of posters referring to the Jonesboro crowd and Clayton influences so as not to have to say Blacks and Mexicans. But it isn't always about race. We Faycos sound pretty snobby at times to the surrounding folks. Remember comments on Clayco license plates clogging up the newly expanded H/W54?

As far as the race thing goes, every time I see a black face on the blotter or crime sketch, it burns me up. We are playing right into the fears of those who see black men as the problem and not as solutions and contributers to the economy and society. I don't know if it's parenting, moral compass problems, peer pressure, or what. But I truly wish we would start by hiding our underwear as we walk about in public and go from there.

I've been mentoring for years now, and it seems the parents who stay envolved in their children's lives have a huge head start. But truthfully, the lack of progress in the world of the black male is heartbreaking. And I don't have many answers....

Skyspy, Bill Cosby and Cynthia Tucker are correct--- quit whining and get to work...

Hack alludes to the "black male" problem. The root issue is fatherless children who are more prone to dysfunction and crime. A single parent is tremendously burdened. Two parent families will almost always have greater success in raising children. Not always, but mostly. So, even though there may be some cultural differences I have no problems with the increase in black families in Fayette because an admirable percentage are two parent families. And there are also some very hardworking single mothers in places like Harmony Village. My hat is off to them. They quietly are producing good kids with hard work. The "Clayton/Fulton Countians" we complain of are the ones drifiting over the border to commit crime. You don't hear about white thugs coming here from Pike County or McDonough, do you ?

Let's talk about hard work. I agree with Skyspy. My grandparents came from the old country, very poor, no education and could not even speak English. They succeeded through hard work. Why, as Hack suggests, has the black male lagged behind? Because we have intoxicated an entire subculture with government assistance. Why do rich people worth billions keep working? Because they understand good work ethic--- the Greek called it Arete--- the human impulse to succeed, to contribute and to achieve. That is slipping away from so many young Americans, of all races (see Git's comments at the Mall).

So, no...I do not owe you a handout and I am tired of paying for it.

After spending the day at the Mall of Georgia today I can say the same thing about all the White Male Thugs that were polluting the population up there. Not to mention all the slut wanna-bees that displayed their goods in a shameless manner. You know... as a dad trying to raise virtuous daughters I've sure got the rest of society fighting me tooth and nail.

Martin Luther King observed that poverty was the cause of much of what we call 'racism'. He was on a mission to do all that is humanly possible to assist people out of the quagmire of poverty. Poor people come in all colors. Inadequate education, lack of opportunity, lack of motivation, etc. are some of the causes of poverty. Criminals come in all colors. Greed, laziness, lack of moral upbringing breed criminals. I also mentor. It is a rewarding activity. There are many families who don't have a clue how to overcome seeming obstacles to success. It is interesting that the only place I see overt racism in Fayette County is in the blogs. If more citizens who have experienced success would reach out and help others in their racial community - some progress 'might' be made. Not all crime is committed by the 'have nots'. (Note 'white collar crime') Many hard working people lost their hard earned retirement money due to the greed and immoral actions of criminals. Race relations is still a difficult issue to discuss - but unless we share and listen to the opinions of others who are sincere about solving this blight on American culture - we're doomed to be hindered by it for years to come. I have seen such progress - and if the bloggers are sharing deep seated feelings - there is still much to be done to heal this American disease. America is a shining light to the rest of the world. Race should not be an issue here

Not a birthright!

Throwing welfare money at people disables them. People don't learn or growup unless they have to. When people are given everything and earn nothing they LEARN HELPLESSNESS! They learn that they don't have to try, because everything will be given to them.

We are crimist in Fayette. I don't care if you are a green martian, if you are a criminal I hate you.

Can you understand why people in Fayette would not want clayton-crime counties problem here? Can you understand why I would not want a murder or drive by happening everyday here? Can you understand why I would not want my neighbor cooking crystal meth? Can you understand why I would not want a drug dealer in my neighborhood? Can you understand why I would not want 10 illegals shacked up in the home next to me, drinking and carrying on at all hours of the night? Can you understand why I don't want gangs and all of their gratuitous violence here?

Maybe you would want all of those things but I do not!

I'm with Git Real I will pay for birthcontrol that's all I want to pay for.

Watch the evening news, count how many times clayton crime county is mentioned.

Martin Luther King observed that poverty was the cause of much of what we call 'racism'.

Martin Luther King, in my humble opinion, was incorrect.

45% of my income goes to the Government. God demands 10% plus all of me [boy does He get stiffed on the all of me part]. And my family eats up the leftover 45%.

Two Questions:

1. How much more should the government take from me to fund your "Poverty Causes Racism" theory. [Please don't say raise the taxes on corporations. My retirement depends upon my investments as do those of any American who invests for his future. Plus if you raise taxes on businesses then the cost will be passed down to me, the consumer, as another hidden tax.

2. When am I going to start seeing a "return on investment" for the trillions of dollars that have already been thrown at poverty.

David's Mom..... Why doesn't it occur to those of us who are somewhat edumacated that perhaps there is a huge segment of the population that enjoys the irresponsibility of living below the poverty line. No matter how much you edumacate them or prod them along they are only going to put out the minimal amount of effort to sustain themselves.

I say to heck with subsidizing poverty. If "One" doesn't want to exist in poverty then "One" needs to get off One's" butt and work himself up the ladder like everyone else does. Both my families existed in poverty when they first came to this country. They desired not to remain there and every generation since then has had it better than the one before. Except for the deadbeat who chose to live lifestyles that guaranteed a future life in poverty. Those deadbeat relatives can't be helped. Perhaps some people deserve to live in poverty if that is what they truly desire. Our hope is that they would somehow choose not to reproduce.

Hmmmmm.... now that brings up a government program that I'd pay for. The Department of Voluntary Sterilization. It would work like this.... We pay deadbeats, drunkards, welfare addicts, drug addicts and Liberals [Ooops...I didn't mean to say that Eye-wink ] tax money to voluntary have themselves neutered or spayed. This will allow them funding so they can fulfill their desires of living for the moment. Then we only have to take care of them for the next 30 - 50 years while not having to subsidize their useless offspring for centuries to come. Smiling

But what are they doing about it? It isn't happening to their county it has already happened. It would take soldiers patrolling the streets like they do in Italy to turn that sinking ship around.

It was truely amazing they had armed soldiers with full autoamtic weapons everywhere. I did not see so much as a pickpocket while I was there. Just peace. No hint of crime. I think the Italian Carabinieri would be a great asset in most of our crime filled cities.

I can tell you about the retired teachers I know, the retired Army Colonel whose house I service, the everyday people who don't commit crimes, live a honest and religious life, what are they supposed to do to combat their problems? You have any answeres I don't they don't, so you tell me, what can they do ?

At this point that county is too far gone. I truely think it would take military intervention to get it back. When I say get it back, I mean to a crime free zone.

That is my point, Italy and other countries use their military to support the local cops. It has had a great effect on crime. Bring our troops home. There is plenty of crime for them to fight right here.

There is no easy answer. I know people who still live in the clayton crime haven......it stinks......In my book the only good criminal is a dead one....but that is just me.

Then why don't they do something about it?
Either hire or elect people who WILL not stand for crap!
The race of the managers should not matter as long as they do the job.
Heritage is no longer an excuse for overlooking any kind of law breaking. Sentence them to pickup trash. etc., instead of giving them a criminal record. Then maybe they will get the idea?

One vote will only do so much. There are a lot of people in the world and you only have one vote and no control over what everyone else votes. Actually, Eldrin Bell the Commission Chairman is a great man. I admire him. He has done a lot for Clayton County and is not all for one race -- he is for everyone. He actually went to schools on the first day of school to welcome the kids back and actually told a kid to tuck in his shirt and set an example. 98% of leaders and parents in every county everywhere are not so bold to speak up and demand such respect from kids these days.

Anyone that would hire Don Comer clearly doesn't know Don Comer. We can only hope that "interim" is the correct term and that his influence on Fayette County activities is limited and short-lived. Perfect timing for those who want a guaranteed benefit retirement plan. Perfect timing for developers. Do you think Clayton County's problems were set in motion by the "new" people?

I am always amused and often amazed at the BS the Dunn Duo proffer as political concerns.

Dunn and Wells were turned out of office and it is pleasing to see that Linda is not indulging in continual railing against this new board of commissioners.

They have done some things, and undone a couple of things that never should have been done.

The citizens of Fayette County decided to re-gear with new faces and ideas and I for one am o k with that.

When I first saw this story my reaction was "Whoever Don Comer is, give him a chance." I had hoped that he would be left alone. I suspect he is doing us a favor. Tonto and WheelJC are right--- these objections sound like the dying gasp of an old political machine.

First lets remember what necessitated the need for an interim attorney. Peter (errr...Greg and Janet/ignoranceaboveall) had the audacity to suggest that civilization as we know would implode if we didn't have a lawyer for a few weeks. And besides, what did they think--- that it would be hard to find a lawyer somewhere, anywhere ???? LOL....Lawyers are stacked up like cordwood on street corners, advertising on phone books and gas station trash cans.

No, this is a display of NO TEAM PLAY by the ousted legal bastion. Don't send them a damn thing in outside business. Eric Maxwell is living proof of Lincoln's adage that Bill McNally would not get away with the snow job forever.
