F’ville arrests 24 for drugs, alcohol

By: Ben Nelms

Several parties over the weekend in Fayetteville quickly went south as officers in three separate incidents arrested 17 people for underage drinking, four on drug-related charges, two adults for furnishing alcohol to minors and one arrest for a weapons violation.

The weekend of arrests began at approximately 1 a.m. Aug. 3 when officers patrolling near Belle Drive noticed a vehicle turning around in a manner that indicated the driver might be lost, said Fayetteville Police spokesperson Lt. Beverly Trainor.

The vehicle came to a stop, with two people exiting the car and entering a residence while two others remained in the vehicle, Trainor said.

Smelling alcohol in the vehicle, officers were questioning the remaining occupants in the car as the resident, 21-year-old Paul Godsall, approached the vehicle, said Trainor. Officers had determined that the occupants were under the legal age for drinking.

In his conversation with officers Godsall said he was having a small get-together at his residence, Trainor said.

Upon inspecting the residence, offices found 17 people in the apartment, arresting 11 for underage drinking violations. Godsall was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor and keeping a disorderly house, Trainor said.

Also arrested without incident at the Belle Drive residence for drinking violations were Fayetteville residents Madison McCullough, Nicholas Frame, Aaron Robertson, Donya Stagner, David Hyde, David Hinkle, Elliot Witchey and Jonathon Day, said Trainor.

Also arrested were Marcus Mujica, of Carrollton, Katy Linn, of Sharpsburg and Melissa Pope, of Peachtree City, Trainor said. All those arrested ranged in ages from 18 to 20, reports said.

Arrests continued near midnight Aug. 4 at Weatherly Walk Apartments on Knight Way after officers responded to reports of loud music. Inquiries by officers about the presence of under-age individuals on the premises and a subsequent search of the apartment resulted in the arrest of six people on alcohol and drug-related charges, Trainor said.

Prior to the arrests, officers inquired of those in the living room if others were in the apartment. Though they were told, “No,” officers continued to find other individuals in the bedroom, bathroom and on the balcony, Trainor said.

Arrested for possession of alcohol by a minor were 20-year-old Fayetteville residents Jeremy Fowler and Molly Rickard and a 16-year-old Hampton male, according to reports.

Also arrested for possession of drug objects were Fayetteville residents Latavia Illi, 18, and Brittany Finch, 17, Trainor said. Eighteen-year-old Laura Finley, of Douglas, Kansas, was arrested for possession of drug objects and possession of alcohol by a minor, said Trainor.

A third weekend incident involving multiple arrests also came Aug. 4 as officers patrolling the area of the American Legion Post on Ga. Highway 85 heard loud music coming from a vehicle that had pulled into the parking lot.

Eighteen-year-old Charles Bolton, of College Park, was charged with carrying a concealed handgun, 18-year-old Justin Lewis was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and a 14-year-old male from Atlanta was charged with obstruction and possession of alcohol by a minor, said Trainor.

Officers approached the vehicle, experiencing difficulty in having some of the occupants follow orders to keep their hands in plain view, Trainor said. One of the officers opened the passenger door and noticed suspected marijuana on the floor, said Trainor.

A search of the vehicle also revealed a .38 caliber handgun under a seat, she said. The three remaining passengers in the vehicle were not arrested, Trainor said.

I wonder if any involved were developmentally disabled. I believe Mr. Nelms would be able to get more insight into that type of situation.

The life you saved might have been mine! There is nothing 'cool' about parents who serve alcohol to minors. Drug dealers come to our community because we house drug 'buyers'.

David's Mom.... Do we have good law enforcement in this county or what? Our "Pigs" (as one punk thug called our police) are a real class act and some of the best around. Thanks to all our "Pigs" for the fine jobs you do everyday in Fayette County.

Now if we can just get a District Attorney and some judges to administer some punitive justice on these scumbags we could indeed restore the safety we used to enjoy in our fair community. Smiling

This comment only pertains to the kids arrested on Belle Drive.

Fayette County cops need to find other things to do with their time. I happen to know Paul, Madison, Nick, DR, and several others that were arrested there, and I know that they are good kids, especially Paul. I understand that he just wanted to have a little get-together with his friends, because I was once in his shoes. About a year ago, I had a little get-together at my house, which was supervised by parents (who were actually taking up all the keys to PREVENT drinking and driving). This was not a loud party with a lot of people. It was simply just a get-together. However, Fayette County cops had nothing better to do with their time and so they bombarded the house through the back door and front door with no warrent and no reason to search. I believe the whole night shift of Fayette County was in that house that night. There were even undercover narcotic agents there. They arrested 11 people that night, including the parents who only had good intentions. Those parents are good people and they are not naive as the majority of other parents in fayette county and they did not deserve to be charged with that. I will admit that perhaps it was wrong of the parents to allow the get-together, but seriously, if the kids dont drink supervised, then they will drink and drive inorder to hide it from their own parents so that they meet their curfew. Which is more dangerous? Supervised drinking? or Drunk teenagers driving? I know that those kids arrested a few days ago had no bad intentions. They dont deserve to put up with the bs from fayette county cops. I believe the cops need to prioritize their time better. There are far more important things they should be doing than busting small get-togethers. But I do believe that busting small get-togethers are an easy way for them to just bring in the cash. Perhaps they should spend their time making the pavillion more safe, because frankly, I'm scared to go there because I feel so unsafe there. It was never like that a couple years ago. Fayetteville in general has gone down the drain. I'm more scared in Fayetteville at night than I am in downtown Atlanta. But where were the cops? They were too busy trying to bust small get-togethers. Maybe they just need to grow some ... and act like real cops and fight some real crime instead of taking the easy way out. I have so much anger and disrespect for fayette county cops that it makes me mad just thinking about all the incidents where they have screwed over so many innocent good people. The next time I come to face to face with one, they will be the lucky one to hear everything I have to say.

So basically, good job pigs! Dont let me catch you at Dunkin' Donuts! ha Smiling

Good people make bad decisions at times and they have to pay the consequences their bad decisions. I do not understand how the police are the bad guys. They are doing their job. I am thankful they arrested all of these people. They could have gotten behind the wheel and killed themselves or someone else. There is no way to justify an adult and serving alcohol to a minor. It's illegal plain and simple.

Did you ever think that that the police were only doing their job? They investigated a suspicious action of a car and its occupants who appeared to be drunk. What's hilarious about the whole thing is Mr. Godsall then approaches the officers and declares he is having a little "get together". Duh! What do you expect the police to do? Just write it off. Again their duty is to enforce the law. That's why it's called "Law Enforcement". Now, I hope our DA does the right thing.

You are funny as snot. You confess to breaking multiple laws that are designed to protect young people from their own immature desires and also to protect our society at large. You list out all the offenses that took place and act as if the the "Pigs" [as you call them]assaulted a bunch of innocent victims.

Tell you what Wienie Boy... How about I break into your ride and steal your overpriced junk electronics. While I'm at it I'll get your mommy's credit card that you live off of and I'll use it for a few days. I'm not going to hurt anyone. And I'm sure you wont' mind if I smoke up your weed. Again... who would I be hurting? Then when the "Pigs" haul me off you can blog on here defending me too. Eye-wink

What would really help the citizenry of Fayette County out would be for you to perhaps enlighten us and tell us which laws are acceptable for us to break and which ones you deem worthy of enforcing.

I have so much anger and disrespect for fayette county cops that it makes me mad just thinking about all the incidents where they have screwed over so many innocent good people

So goofy one..... by your definition of "innocent good people" you must mean the ones who were busted for breaking the laws of our land. Funny... I can't find that definition anywhere.

The next time I come to face to face with one, they will be the lucky one to hear everything I have to say.

Tough talk from such a small idiot punk like yourself. Why wait? Dial 911 and request a "Pig" to come by your mommy's house so you can tell him off and put him in his place. They'll be glad to hear you out. Smiling

Listen up silly child. Please tell us that you are still in middle school and you have several more years to learn how to write and communicate properly in manner that the rest of the educated world can understand. I'd hate to think that you are a "completed" product of our public school systems. If, by chance, you are a high school graduate then I respectfully request a refund for all the tax monies that I contributed in an attempt to educate the un-educatable. Eye-wink Yes... Personally if my kid was at a party where the parents were allowing kids to drink, and I found out, the best thing that could happen to the parents would be to be arrested because there would be a major disturbance when I got there. The law says 21 to drink and your parents have no right to circumvent it in any way. Obviously ya'll must have been making too much noise or something or how would the cops have known to come. The cops are doing the right thing and you need to grow up a little, no, I'm sorry, a lot.

The fact that my tax dollar is going to be used to feed these scumballs. That is what is SAD!!

The highest position these losers will achieve will be the title of "lead prison dishwasher". I wish we could horsewhip their parents in public.( and make them pay for feeding them in jail)

I'm sure somehow it is not their fault:
They were abused as children?

Their parents left them alone?

The family dog from next door slept through the whole thing, instead of chasing the bad kids off before the cops got there?? Unbelievable, the lazy worthless dog slept through that, and now the precious "angels" got caught. What is the world coming to???

Submitted by arpafarpagon on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 4:28pm.

What's really sad is the fact that you're such an uninformed, opinionated idiot that you fly off the handle and call a bunch of kids futureless scumballs just because they did something that virtually everyone their age-- regardless of social class-- has done.

Maybe your wrathful tendencies and your naivety about what a normal childhood is like are somehow related? Or maybe you got suckered in by the blatant sensationalism of reporting two completely unrelated incidents in the same story?

What we all hope-- what we really all hope-- is that you're intentionally satirizing idiots such as yourself. Somehow I doubt it.

EDIT: Oh, and the fact that you think they'll be spending any significant amount of time in jail is pretty revealing.

Submitted by skyspy on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 5:36pm.

Maybe in college- crime- park this is normal. Where do you come from cabbage town ATL, watts district LA, or river-crime-dale??

This maybe the "norm" in your social circle, but for the rest of us not on welfare......thugs don't fit in!

Sounds like you are jealous of your friends in jail. Don't get me wrong if you thugs would just hurt yourselves most of us would be ok with that. It is when you drink and drive that we have a problem. Now go OD on something.

Submitted by arpafarpagon on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 6:55pm.

You are quite simply not aware of what goes on in your community.

Maybe go to college-- you obviously haven't been there as it's a pretty good counter-example to your theories about "thugs" and alcohol (unless you think college graduates are thugs)-- and learn a little bit about supply and demand not to mention reading comprehension.

Maybe it will give your mind something to work on besides this crazy "thugs" and "welfare" fixation that you evidently like to bring up in response to random unrelated scenarios.

EDIT: And just FYI: I wasn't there, but I do happen to know that the drunkest person blew a .08, and he wasn't even driving (funny how I didn't see THAT in the article).

Circumstance and discretion, my friends. Circumstance and discretion.
...
And patience.

One has nothing to do with the other.
I know people that have achieved a high level of education(one MD the other a PhD.) who have a serious problem with cocaine. It doesn't make them any safer on the road or in my neighborhood. I would rather live next to someone who had no education, but was straight and honest, then live next to someone with an "education" who was a druggie!!

eloquent?? Yes of course you are. Go back to your druggie friends.

You are right I didn't "party" the way you kids do. If I had I would have never been able to get a top security clearance and a job where I make 6 figures a year after taxes. Yep, you got one up on me there. I never got arrested in college.

Submitted by arpafarpagon on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 7:19pm.

They're either thugs who are draining your tax dollars by going to jail and drawing welfare, or they'r overpriveledged kids who are causing some sort of safety hazard by doing (legal) drugs.

Congratulations on your staggering, extremely relevant salary; I now have immense hopes for my own future.

Oh and the last I checked a DUI is still only a misdemeanor-- let's all just keep that in mind when we're fantasizing about these kids serving jail time. (I'm confused about when the DUI became the main issue too, by the way.)

Submitted by skyspy on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 7:26pm.

DUI is a misdemeanor until right up until it becomes vehicular homicide......then it is 20yrs. to life of being someone elses "girlfriend".

You miss the point: anyone who uses illegal drugs is a thug in my book. It doesn't matter if the thug is a high school dropout or a PhD.

Anyone who kills someone because they were too drunk to drive is a thug in my book.

For someone who "wasn't there" you sure are defensive and know alot about it. Maybe the sheriff's dept needs to follow up on this blog so you can tell them everything.

Submitted by arpafarpagon on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 7:44pm.

Oh okay, anybody who uses illegal drugs is a thug in your book, and I'm just being silly because you were using the word thug as some crazy invented slang for a general concept that doesn't have anything to do with class, race, criminal history, criminal future, or education.

That's why you're talking about welfare and jail. Get real dude. Suddenly your arguments look stupid and contradictory so that makes me defensive, I guess.

Typical. (Just to clarify, now I AM being defensive.) Be careful, the gears on that bicycle are only supposed to go one way.

[And oh yeah, I'm sorry that I actually got all of the information before I started damning people all to hell based on a local news headline. I'd be happy to tell the sheriff that there's this thing called "facebook," "myspace," and the "internet" where people "talk" about "things" that "happen" because they're "free to do so."]

There is something in what you say, not much, but a little.
We are too anxious to immediately condemn until the evidence has been sworn to in court. Not all of any race is guilty every time enough to be called a thug.
George Bush was once an auto driving alcoholic and a coke sniffer, Laura Bush sold dime bags in college. They were never defamed because they were able to prevent such punishment with money at an earlier age ,he was 30ish, and they did turn out to be able to live in society eventually.
If in Fairburn instead of Texas, who knows what would have happened.
Don't get me wrong....there is a serious problem of safety with these gangs robbing and stealing and with guns. Maybe the white man did it to them, I doubt it, but they aren't listening to anyone to get what they want. Their parents aren't capable of supervising them due to money and ignorance, and they aren't getting much guidance from anywhere else. Every program tried so far only gets a few out of the ghetto style. It is not enough.
They will continue to go to jail because we are afraid of them!

A good choke hold hug that is...I'm with you Skyspy! I have a big problem with these fools who get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. The death of my former husband Lennie Dunn is a prime example. Although it's not been proven that the female that caused the accident was under the influence of anything, my research indicates that she has a serious alcohol problem. This person was already on 2 yrs probabtion for PUBLIC DRUNK, BATTERY AND THEFT. What does she do next? Causes an accident that took the lives of two wonderful men of this very community. Did she learn her lesson? Nope, several weeks ago she was arrested AGAIN for DUI. It's bad enough that this female doesn't care about her own well being, but her driving drunk while her husband sits in the passenger seat with an open container show's she has no regard for human life what so ever, and this female is the mother of three children.
Some people just need to have a brick dropped on their heads!

My brother was in the hospital for over a year because of a drunk. My heart goes out to you.

The man that hit my brother didn't have a license. He had 3 other DUI's that he had spent time in jail for. He had kids, and had already lost his car. After my brothers accident he lost his house. Some people have to reach rock bottom before they turn around.

Wow...you people really do have too much time on your hands. SKYSPY wake up, smell the coffee and enter the REAL world...i think you are drifting somewhere in the "twilight zone". 3 SEPERATE AND UNRELATED INCIDENTS. Young people party, young people drink, young people get in trouble. Not all of these kids were doing "drugs", very few were driving. You don't need to condemn them as 'thugs' for the rest of their lives. Did you even have a childhood? What "top security clearance" did you obtain and do you still have it? The only 'real clearances' come from the feds/military by way of OPM or DOD CID. Let's see, there is Confidential, Secret, Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, Q, and so on...and just because you have done drugs or been arrested and then CONVICTED (keep in mind ALL are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt...know what that is? the BURDEN OF PROOF the state with all its might must meet to obtain a conviction in a criminal case absent maybe a RICO prosecution) doesn't mean you won't get the necessary clearance and flip burgers the rest of your life. You should know mister security clearance 6 figure G man. Remember? they look at your last 7 years of employment, school, residency, drug use and ask if you have ever been arrested requesting that you explain any incidents in the last 7 years. They consider your AGE at the time of the event as well as how much time has elapsed since. The fact is your can get most any clearance as long as you have never been convicted of a felony or a misdeamenor criem of domestic violence...hence you can't be issued a firearm or ammunition by the gov't. Why don't you take another look at an sf86 and try again. I have never read such ignorant and mindless comments as the ones you post, not even from dollar. It is sad to think we have people like you looking out for our security if you are even telling the truth. We should talk to some of these young people about their future, straighten them out and one day replace people like you with them. They are atleast in touch with the reality of todays world. They have had meaningful life experiences in which they learn and grow from. Much worse things happen every day than all three of these incidents. Looks to me like the new chief is trying to make a name for himself. Hello! There was no need to take all these folks to jail, especially not those who were just drinking and on the verge of 21 and the youngest of the bunch could have been picked up by their parents. COME ON?1 If you want a REAL story here is one. Just this past week a man was arrested in the Balmoral Village apartment complex in PTC after the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Drug Supression Task Force served a warrant on the premises of his apartment in the L building of the complex. Found were 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana and 11 K in cash. Have you seen this in the newspaper? NO. why? There are powerful forces at work that don't want it to get out. Is the Citizen complacent in this effort? Have I said too much already? He wasn't even inside when they went in, his girlfriend and his 5 month old baby girl were. This is the kind of guy you should focus your tirade at, not a bunch of kids having a good time. One last thing, the 18 yr olds and the 14 yr old from out of town had no business being in Fayetteville or having a handgun in the car being that you can't legally possess on until the age of 21. Good job on that one guys but you really need to lighten up on the petty stuff. Good Day.

They are real tough until it's their kid that gets busted and then "we just don't understand."

"Young people party, young people drink, young people get in trouble." -- Not the decent ones, especially the ones whose parents aren't hippies who never grew up (Bill Clinton comes to mind) or trailer-trash welfare wards.

"They are atleast [sic] in touch with the reality of todays [sic] world." -- Find me any medical book that verifies your delusional statement that alcohol and/or other drugs put users "in touch with the reality." Actually, they are used as a form of escape from reality. What are you smoking right now?

"They have had meaningful life experiences in which they learn and grow from." -- Actually, alcohol and/or other drugs impair brain function, making learning more difficult. I've heard a lot of ignorant things before, but calling drunkenness and drug stupor and/or rage "meaningful life experiences" is a first. Are you an aspiring defense attorney? (Hint -- You'll need to improve your basic education skills first.)

Maybe the "meaningful life experiences" come AFTER arrest, while in jail? Puzzled

"Much worse things happen every day than all three of these incidents." -- Such as killing yourself and/or someone else while driving under the influence? Such as killing yourself and/or someone else while using drugs? Such as armed robbery to pay for your drug habit? Such as a police officer dying in the line of duty and the sorrow that his family is left with? Such as ending up in the penitentiary? Such as getting hepatitis or HIV? Puzzled

"Did you even have a childhood?" -- Teens are not children and are often sentenced as adults. Drugs, alcohol, and guns should not be part of any person's childhood.

"a bunch of kids having a good time" -- They need to learn how to have a "good time" responsibly. Even better -- learn how to get a job and be self-supporting.

"lighten up on the petty stuff" -- Raindrops can make a flood. If you ignore the "petty stuff," then you ignore the termites that eat out the foundation. Punish the "petty stuff" severely to keep it from becoming more serious.

I really doubt that most drunk or drug-crazed drivers say to themselves, "I think I'll kill that kid on the bike today." No, they ignored the "petty stuff" until it was too late.

"Character is simply habit long continued." — Plutarch, Greek biographer (47-120 A.D.)

How do YOU know so much about the incident at Balmoral Village? Are you the perp or the girlfriend? I'd guess that the druggie was once a "kid" who just wanted to have "fun." How much "fun" will his child have while he's in prison?

"I have never read such ignorant and mindless comments as the ones you post, not even from dollar." -- Dimwitted Dim, I question your ability to read then. Laughing out loud

Come out of your marijuana fog before you post again.

Kids just don't get it. There criminal record will follow them, and make it difficult to get a good job.
They go back much further than 7yrs. The group of people I hired on with had 35 in the class, only 10 of us made it. Not because they weren't smart enough. 2 couldn't get a medical clearance, and the rest did something stupid in highschool or college. Stuff that seemed small at the time I'm sure. One for public drunkiness, one had 3 speeding tickets. The rest had other small things like vandalism and the like. Even now if I get 3 speeding tickets on my record, my security clearance(ie my job) will be jeopardy.

So timmmytim and all you other little kids keep partying and playing with guns if that is how you "stay in touch with reality". Good Luck.

ps: timmy you are right we should have been told about the drug raid in Balmoral. Most crimes are not reported here. The police should be a little more forthcoming with info on the crime here. I think we have a right to know what is going on in our community.

Afraid you might not see any crime reported if the Citizen occasionally didn't dig it out!
Clayton and Fulton would need a book each day to report all of their crime, so they don't try.

I suppose your comments indicate that the hard drinking fake license Bush twins were as a result of their parents alcoholism and dime bagging?
I never knew Chelsea Clinton to be affected by Hippie Bill or hippie Hillary!
Yes, many of PTCs elite children do drugs and drink enormously, especially at college.
Most seem to have the ability to avoid the police somehow.
With all that said, there must come a time when there is no need for us to look for some reason to treat all races exactly equally. For an older teenager to carry a gun around, with some drugs, in a car with very young kids, shows a lack of judgement that is sad.
However there is a case for parents to be knowledgeable of who their kids are socializing with at least away from home. I know they say they can't do it due to neighborhood pressures and lack of the ability to pay for other distractions, but they MUST.
Denise: I am very pleased that you indicated that my anti-republican rants seem to you to be the worst ever! What a pleasure that is to me.

I've never said that the Bushes are great parents -- obviously too lenient (just like with the border & illegal aliens). I think that it's more their mother who gives in to their bad behavior ("That just what teens do."). They probably should listen to Barbara Bush more. Smiling

The Bush twins should have been yanked out of school and put to work at McDonald's; then they might appreciate an education more, especially if they had to work for it.

As far as Chelsea, you just haven't heard very much about her because the press agreed to her being "off limits" (per Hillary's command). But she's been wild, too, from a few reports, but mostly in Britain. She's more studious, and Hillary probably was hard on her (high expectations).

Most kids don't handle the spotlight very well -- wealth either.

"With all that said, there must come a time when there is no need for us to look for some reason to treat all races exactly equally." -- Please explain. Puzzled

$, glad to brighten your day! Smiling

Your "anti-republican rants" are just that -- RANTS = violent, wild, irrational, and/or incoherent ravings (as in lunatic); loud, pompous, or prolonged harangues

But you do make a point every once in a while -- a very long while. Laughing out loud
