child safety seats donated

Chris Lumley, vice president of Magna Aftermarket, center, presents 25 donated clek booster seats to Sheltering Arms for distribution to families enrolled in its program. Accepting for the organization are Elaine Draeger, president and CEO, left, and Paige McKay Kubik, vice president of development and communication.

The charitable organization serves 4,000 children in 16 centers in Fulton and five other metro Atlanta counties. Car crashes are the number one killer of georgia’s children ages 2-14, according to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. But GOHS studies also show that using child safety seats can cut by nearly half the risk of injury and fatalities for toddlers involved in motor vehicle crashes. State law requires that children age 6 and younger use a booster seat while riding in a vehicle. Yet statistics show that only about 20 percent of those who should be in a booster seat actually are.

Thank you for your coverage of Sheltering Arms. There was a mistake in the caption for the photo. The women with Mr. Lumley are (l-r) Amy Deich, Janice Edwards, and Deikel Boyd. Ms. Deich and Ms. Boyd are Family Support Coordinators and Ms. Edwards is Center Director at one of our local Sheltering Arms centers in metro Atlanta.

Thank you again for the story.

Paige McKay Kubik
