Police release detailed description of gunman

Peachtree City police are looking for a man who robbed the Home Town Dollar Plus store at the Wilshire Pavilion just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The suspect, a black male, had a grey pupil in his right eye and is believed to live in the surrounding area, police said. The eye feature could be from cataract damage, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male in his late 20s, about 5'7"-5'8" tall with a stocky build, between 170 and 180 pounds with dark complexion and short hair, police said. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a pocket on the front, long black denim baggy pants and black shoes, police said.

The suspect wore gloves but no mask, said Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray.

“There should be no problem identifying him,” Murray said Thursday night, adding that police hope to have him in custody in the next day or two.

The gunman entered the store and went behind the counter area, pointing a handgun at the clerk, Murray said. The gunman took cash and left through the store’s rear door, getting away on foot, Murray added.

Murray said deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department were quick to respond to the area to help in the search for the suspect, along with Hawk 1, the sheriff’s department’s helicopter.

“It was very good to have that in the air so quickly to assist in the ground search,” Murray said.

How does the Chief know the guy will be in custody in a day or two? They either know who he is and are waiting to pick him up, not very smart. Or they are just guessing that they are "that good". Apparently you get a crystal ball now instead of a gun.

Armed Robbery at the Dollar Store? Huh ?

I can see the newscast now: "Witnesses on the scene said that the alleged robber dashed out of the store with 72 single dollar bills and an armful of tennis balls, hair care products and cheese balls."

Folks---- do you see the problem here? The criminals do not fear Fayette County anymore, even for a petty take like the Dollar Store. Randall used to always say "The criminals know where the Fayette County line is." We may be way past that now.

I'm losing track. Does anyone have a case where the COPter caught anyone?
“It was very good to have that in the air so quickly to assist in the ground search,” Murray said.

& Why was it good?

Dunn & Co. were right it is a waaste of money.

And why did that FCSD pass me on the right about 5 o'clock on Monday?
I was going the speed limit in Coweta County & slowed down to the 45 MPH coming into PTC but he was bobin' & weavin'.

Did anyone catch the news article about an increase in bank robberies probably related to drug use? This country needs to wake up that what has been tried for 70 years ("Reefer MAdness" is not a comedy) and legalize drugs.

We have the largest prison population in the known world. We have felonized at least 2 if not 3 generations, leaving them with little hope of securing employment w/ a felony.

The history of the meth epidemic is quit intesting and now it is outsourced. From biker gangs to rednecks in trailers to Mexican drug cartels. Anyone beside the $-man notice the poppy harvest in Afgani? Talk about terrorism...you have more to fear from narco-teror than WMD or straw-man Al-Quida in Iran.

I know of a few cases where the chopper was used to help nab a suspect. Of course, the helicopter didn't land and stop the suspect, but it is used to radio locations and descriptions to people on the ground. Just because you don't see a high speed chase on the TV doesn't mean that the chopper isn't being put to good use. From what I've heard, it's also been used to help locate missing persons in the area.

Being in the air isn't necessarily helping! What you wrote sounds like Police 101. as is the following:
Who can say that it goes without saying. Playing God, opening Pandora's box, sliding down the slippery slope for a mass exodus, bores me to tears.
It boggles the mind when it rains cats and dogs, literally, in broad daylight.
It is always a bone of contention and a foregone conclusion when on the bubble pushing the envelope.
Taking a leadership role outside the box concerning the long arm of the law sells like hot cakes.
No stone is left unturned on a whirlwind tour until you grind to a halt in the nick of time.
A sneaking suspicion from time immemorial on an errand of mercy is easier said than done.
Silence is truly golden!

Hey, Dollar;
You should listen to you own advice. Silence is golden-so shut up. I don't even know what message you were trying to convey with your stupid rant. Quit the stupid Dennis Miller-like comments. They didn't work for him and they won't work for you.

quit whining

Hey do everyone a favor here and go back in your little room and start talking to kids on the internet again. You are such a clown.

But then what would the cops do?
We would have to close two-thirds of the jails. Look at the unemployment!
Boy, would the speeding tickets be horrible then, with nothing else to do!

Are they sure he was black??

Last night I saw 4 very rough looking and speaking mexicans on an orange unmarked golfcart behind Wilshire.

I don't bother to call the cops on this stuff anymore. It happens too often and since they aren't on the paths they can't catch them anyway.

There are many unmarked golfcarts on the paths. Mostly filled with rough looking teen boys.

Skyspy…we have a close identity of opinions but let me share a few thoughts to clarify what I have seen and I know. Jim Murray and the PTC cops are trying to make a presence on the cart paths. (BTW--- good team work to Murray working with Hawk 1 and dittos for the SO. With teamwork we all win).

The PTCPD has always tried to maintain a presence on the paths. This is not propaganda or a press release. This is what I have see with my own eyes. Examples: (1) occasional cart path road blocks {I’ve seen them); (2) marked, off road vehicles with uniform on board. It is not a typical cart. It is a mufflered, gas powered “Gator” type vehicle, presumably with no governor. Figure from the docks to Braelinn Shopping center in less than 5 minutes; (3) plainclothes detail---- two cops working in a golf cart…or, plainclothes cop roller blading.

I have seen all the above with my own eyes. I totally approve. It will be an increasing necessity.

What are the results? Interdiction and deterrence. Example of a true case. Female was attacked on path. Another civilian heard the screams, dialed 911. Officer (who will go unnamed) responded on bicycle, foiled the assault, chased the perpetrator and arrested him face down in the asphalt of Crosstown Road, service revolver in ear drum.

Would you like for us to have more? I would.

It is all a function of funding. If you share my opinion, tell Mayor Logsdon and council to get on board.

I know they try. I remeber the woman who was attacked by the 14yr old.

I know they can't be everywhere at once.

Yes I have written our councilFOOLS. Amazing how they can justify a raise for themselves "to keep up with other cities our size" Yet the salaries for our police and fire are not competitive, nor are the health benefits. Also the number of fire and policemen we have does not seem to keep up with "cities our size". If we are going to "keep up with other cities our size" lets do it all the way. Are we going to get better service and more accountability from our council if they are paid more?

Rough looking? Unmarked carts?
I say: "hang em."

Submitted by skyspy on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 8:27am.

They were up to no good. The paths are wide open, and without a tag number it is an easy way to get away.

Police describe the perp as overly thrifty, with handfuls of single dollar bills. "He's easily distinguishable for his down-to-earth, practical sense in purchasing on a limited budget." Citizens are warned to be cautious when patronizing Wal-mart and other low cost superstores however, as they fear the suspect is on a bargain hunt.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 8:41pm.

Score one more for perp!
Ground search by police: did they get out of the car?
So the guy looked odd enough so that someone will turn him in, huh?
Stop the crap! That bunch at the Minn. fallen bridge were sickening bragging on one another. Sounded like TV here.
One woman firelady jumped in a backwater and pretended to search a car that had been searched six times, while they filmed it. She then cleaned up and said in an interview that they needed more like her to search the middle, the other side, and up and down the river. Didn't say what to do with them until the next bridge there falls in the water!
One deputy said he was a former Army Special Forces and had no trouble getting some people off the bridge in the middle (an island) with a boat---never got into the water. WOW! He looked 65!
Every town within 100 miles now has everyone there on overtime which the local Senator said would be paid by several million they could have and spend anyway they wanted. Shades of N. O.
Why is all that excessive BS necessary? That is their job.

Our government definitly dropped the ball here. So did the citizens. We let our gov. leaders get away with all kinds of crap. They wouldn't be soooo complacent if we didn't let them.

The rescue workers aren't fake. Not here, not anywhere. They are cleaning up the mess made by filthy politicians, that aren't worth toilet paper(used toilet paper).

I would hope 10 years minimum served. This assuming first felony conviction.

How close am I to what these low lifes actually serve?

He deserves punishment but that is what juries are for, isn't it.
Hey, according to Cobb County, and Heston, aren't all people supposed to carry a gun?

Submitted by skyspy on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 9:03pm.

Ignorant??? That is not a good excuse. This shouldn't involve a police investigation at all. This should be (in an ideal world) a simple case of self defense with one dead criminal. Case closed!!

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 7:27am.

What would be a "good excuse?"
God would be on my side, and he doesn't need my "sake."
Jury is the only way.
Stop hanging people like vigilantes!
You sound like Nancy Grace or Bill O'Reilly!

Submitted by skyspy on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 8:21am.

No excuse is good. There is no way to justify what criminals do. They are a cancer in our society.

Submitted by skyspy on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 8:51pm.

If Scotty and our bedwetter judges keep up with their Mr. softy routine.....this knucklehead will tell them he was "binge drinking" and he was an "abused child"; and he will get off with 2 months probation.

That is what Fayette County has become.

Heelllllooooo store clerks it's called a 12 gauge shotgun......learn to use it.....

I saw a great sign the other day, and will definitly buy 6 for my property. It read:

No Trespassing

Violators will be shot

Survivors will be shot again!

Good words to live by.

For God's sake people when your life is threatened........defend it!

Submitted by teetaw on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 12:28am.

I somehow don't think that a 6 or 7 dollar an hour retail clerk is going to carry a shotgun to work to defend his job with his life, and I think it's rather foolish to think he's going to do anything but give the robber all the money in the drawer instantly.

Submitted by skyspy on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 6:28am.

You are right a minimum wage clerk probably doesn't have a license to carry permit. My point is more of us should because you never see a cop in that area of town. Obviously the crooks have figured it out. PTC is going the way of riverdale and since the councilFOOLS don't care we better be ready to protect ourselves.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 8:08am.

They call me a "nut," but I'm not. You may well be!

Submitted by skyspy on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 8:19am.

Make sure you put your money where your mouth is. Put a large sign outside of your home that tells criminals your home is a gun free zone. Then they will know which home to break into safely
