In about a year, Peachtree City residents will have a 12-screen movie theater in their backyard, just across the county line in Coweta.

The Great Escape theater will be joined by a Sam’s Club that will also be open around the same time at Fischer’s Crossing, which will be about 1 million square feet ... just over two-thirds the size of the Fayette Pavilion.

The shopping center will be located at the corner of Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road, just across the highway from the Hot Spot gas station, said Scott Seymour of Fischer Crossings Development.

Also signed up for the development is CVS drugstore, and other tenants are being lined up, Seymour said. There’s over a half-mile of frontage along the highway, and although the stores will consist of national retail chains, there will be a “lifestyle” center in the middle of the property with restaurants and boutique shops, he added.

“All of the buildings will have an old feel to them,” Seymour said of the architectural plan for the center.

Work is scheduled to begin next week on part of Fischer Road, which will be lowered by about 10 feet. Homes previously on the site have already been demolished, Seymour said.

I'm certainly glad that PTC didn't allow this to happen to us. Just think of all the traffic, crime and such that we would have had inside the city limits. It sure makes me feel safer knowing that it will be a mile down the road...too bad that Coweta is going to have to deal with all the revenue from the sales tax and all. I'm sure that will be such a hardship for them. It's a good thing too that PTC won't have any of the traffic problems since the center is going to be so far down the road....
