TooBad & Tyrone

So now that we have all said what is on our minds regarding Barry and Valerie and their possee, let's have a discussion on how to get some new blood on council. I've heard the names, Chip Young and Don Rehwaldt thrown out, but are they willing and able to do the job? What are their platforms? Who else should we get to run? As I understand it, Cheryl Lee, Paul Latorneu (sp?) and Mike Smola's position is up? Are they running again? Let's put some of our anger to good use and discuss the possibilities.

Well taxpayers - the Town of Tyrone went into Executive Session last night at the town council meeting to discuss pending litigation - probably that Shelley lawsuit. The Town announced that they would have to hire independent, outside counsel - not the city attorney - to handle the case!! I wonder how much that is going to cost. Doug Dillard, the big zoning specialist lawyer, charges $495.00 per hour....DID YOU HEAR THAT?? Get ready for more tax increases. Thanks Barry! Sad

Cecedupree, I agree that everyone needs to work to elect new blood. The so-called name calling was an effort to get people involved because all the officials refused to investigate the illegalities even though they were personally called and notified by detailed letters. Rehwaldt is the one we want for mayor. He has already done an evaluation of questionable 2007-2008 budget items. Chip Young has gotten the word to Rehwaldt that he wants to drop out if Rehwaldt runs. I was told that Tracy Young and Gordon Shenkle will run for council. We all need to contact these people especially Young & Shenkle to find out where they stand on Barry & Valerie and if they will support Grace and Gloria's vote to remove them from Town Hall in January 2008. There also needs to be an investigation by the State into zoning practices and an audit of the budget as well as a Justice Dept. probe into possible criminal activities. O.C.G.A. 45-10-1 states that anyone in government service must expose corruption wherever discovered. At least one of our officials must call for an investigation right now. We can't wait on the possibility that an honest, moral candidate may be elected. Any official failing to investigate becomes a party to the corruption. For more info. email thelonerangeroftyrone@yahoo.com and we can get better acquainted. I've been wondering what happened to all the Tontos. Hi Yo Silver, the Lone Ranger rides again for truth, justice and the American way.

I am all for voting to get some better people in the Tyrone government. Smola & Latourneau have failed miserably by standing by Barry Amos. They are both OUT! I still cannot understand why the town council has not fired Barry Amos. He is clearly a failure as a public servant. He only has his own best interests in mind. From the Bert Clark scandal to way back when Barry let go one of the best employees Tyrone ever had - Tammie Brock. Now there is all this talk of secrets and redevelopment violations. How do these people sleep at night and look themselves in the mirror. If Valerie has refused to provide public records to anyone then she has blatantly violated the law. The Open Records Act provides that all citizens have the right to inspect the public records. However, I am not sure what you will get if you ask for a list of allowable property uses. As far as I know, Valerie and Barry have given out about 5 different lists. They have engaged in reprehensible behavior. Barry thinks he is a lawyer and Valerie, well I am not sure who she thinks she is. The cracks are spreading and there are more lawsuits to come. The town is not immune from suit. GA, following the Federal Government, passed the GA Tort Claims Act which provides that the State of Georgia, including all the municipalities waived sovereign immunity from suit in cases where they act beyond the scope of their duties and powers. Clearly both town mgr and asst town mgr have done this time and time again. There are questions being raised about the budget and unaccounted funds, the impact fees disaster, the Bert Clark zoning, Shamrock Park, the schools......COME ON! This is ridiculous. The government has been taking our tax dollars for years and then, well, we have no idea where they go. Tyrone only has 25% of the impact fee fund money that is to be refunded. Who do you think is going to pay for the other 75% - WE ARE!! They have increased the taxes and given themselves raises. Barry is paid to be a town manager and the town's engineer. HELLO???? Tyrone hired an engineer earlier this year. So does Barry still get to be paid for his wonderful engineering expertise? Just FIRE HIM!! He has got to be one the most hated town employees in Tyrone ever. Anywhere you go, you will find 2-5 people that will openly admit that they hate him. What has he done to anger so many citizens? Over the years, he has thrown his imaginary power around and made enemies that were so unnecessary. He seems sociopathic. Maybe that's why he can sleep at night.

on the subject of Tyrone and Bert Clark etc...we have a glutt of homes on the market now. It seems that there should be some sort of moritorium on starting new subdivisions untill the ones we have are built out. This would be fair to the people who live here and paid taxes and are now trying to sell theres and move on. Mine is not on the market yet. Also I was talking to an on site real estate agent in a neighborhood of 3000,000 and up. They are swimming in houses and can't move them. What the guy said was since these are not starter homes, the people who would buy them are sitting there trying to sell their homes but can't . It seems we have sort of a bottle neck effect going on. We could help everyone if we would put the skids on new subdivisions and help the prices go back up where they should be. I've never seen anything like this since I moved here.

Are you kidding? He has a contract. Are you ready to pay out five million to him and one million to lawyers?
Stop the contracts and hire local. It is not rocket science.

The Town Manager of Tyrone absolutely does not have a contract (Reference: Freedom of Information Act investigation). He serves at the pleasure of Mayor & Council. They can remove him next week if they want to. Instead the Council voted last Thursday to hire high priced lawyers to defend Amos against a malfeasance of office lawsuit against a disabled elderly lady who filed a $2 million claim. Since the Town has no liability insurance against Tort Actions of its employees, the Taxpayers will have to ante up because the Town has no reserve to pay for a judgment or lawyers fees. Let's see now. Judgment: $2,000,000. Lawyers Fees @ $400 per hour for research, consultation, interrogatories, depositions, court costs, court reporter, motions, multiple court hearings & appeals which will drag out at least 2 years. That should come to about $300-$350,000. Total cost to Tyrone taxpayer estimated: $2.3 Million. And that doesn't take into account the 3 other lawsuits in the works for 2007.

Hey, dollaraday, your estimate of $6 Million might be correct. Its just that you got the Plaintiffs & Defendants backwards. I believe it would be more cost effective to fire him.

COMPLICATED

Dollaraday you remind me what a 4 year old child once told me,

Mom, I'm complicated!

I responded, Yes you are.

Then she explained, You know
complicated like your poopoo won't come out.

Oh! you meant Constipated.

Unless sentenced to prison and is serving, no civil servant such as town managers, sheriffs, judges, etc., can be "fired." Outright "fired."
Crookedness has to be proved and a sentence levied.
Or,....they sue the town (who has insurance) and collect 9 out of 10 times.
They can even get drunk, drive a golf cart, pour their drink on a long arm of the law (or a short arm), and still get paid forever--either working or not working.
That is supposed to keep politics out of firing!!!!!
Ask George Bush (justice lawyers), and Mr, Hill in Clayton County.

You are misinformed. I am not sure what kind of civic or legal education you have but everything you said is wrong!! Town managers are not elected officials like the sheriff, the President or the town council members. DUH!!!!

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Sat, 08/04/2007 - 3:08pm.

I didn't say anything about who is elected and who isn't!
It is about firing!
Sheriffs can be fired for malfeasance just like anyone else, providing you can prove it. The state fires them and I suppose even a local judge could suspend their authority if necessary. There are dunderheads in all offices, elected or not!
DUH!

The town manager works at the "pleasure" of the town council. GA no longer has job security. All state jobs are "at-will" employment. State employees can be fired at any time and for any reason or no reason at all, as long as it is not based on discrimination. Getting the picture yet???

He doesn't have a contract!! Do you have evidence that he has a $5m contract?? And it is not an individual that has to pay out these high fees you are referring to, the taxpayer are the ones who have to pay!!
