Movie theater coming near PTC

In about a year, Peachtree City residents will have a 12-screen movie theater in their backyard, just across the county line in Coweta.

The Great Escape theater will be joined by a Sam’s Club that will also be open around the same time at Fischer’s Crossing, which will be about 1 million square feet ... just over two-thirds the size of the Fayette Pavilion.

The shopping center will be located at the corner of Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road, just across the highway from the Hot Spot gas station, said Scott Seymour of Fischer Crossings Development.

Also signed up for the development is CVS drugstore, and other tenants are being lined up, Seymour said. There’s over a half-mile of frontage along the highway, and although the stores will consist of national retail chains, there will be a “lifestyle” center in the middle of the property with restaurants and boutique shops, he added.

“All of the buildings will have an old feel to them,” Seymour said of the architectural plan for the center.

Work is scheduled to begin next week on part of Fischer Road, which will be lowered by about 10 feet. Homes previously on the site have already been demolished, Seymour said.

I dont know about you all but I for one being a former Fayette Couty resident and now a Coweta resident think this bickering between counties is ridiculous and childish. We are all grown adults so lets just act like it. Both counties are growing...its a fact and nothing we can stop.

Also, I have seen just as many Fayette car tags in the Coweta area going to the movies, shopping at the JC Penny's, Belk's, Kohls, etc... as you folks in Fayette have seen Coweta tags in your area. Keep in mind that when we come into PTC to shop, etc.. and you come into Coweta you are paying our taxes just as we are paying yours. These taxes help to keep both counties growing...so instead of bickering you should welcome the revenue and the fact that in the long run we are really supporting each other.

When we cross into a neighboring county we are paying taxes with our purchase and that more than compensates for any wear and tear on that county's roads or infastructure. If we speed, we even get to contribute more. I welcome residents of Coweta to The Avenues and I would hope that Coweta welcomes us when we want to shop in Newnan or at the new places proposed just across the line.

Now, having said that, it does not give you in Coweta and Clayton the right to park your car at city hall all day and use our parks, cart paths and lakes. Some of you even steal our fish! Use your own parks. We paid for ours dearly through the highly inlated lot prices the developer had to charge to cover the 20% greebelt requirement and all the extra fees the city charge the builders. I think we should get some stickers to put on the offenders cars that label them tresspassers - although it would be inappropriate to use spray paint.
How about a sticker that says "I tresspased in Peachtree City and all I got was this lousy sticker - cops too busy to give me a ticket"

Back to my old picture, so I can say "I don't have a dog in this
fight" with real feelings.

This is so funny; for months Coweta County was being bashed and that was okay. The minute someone takes one little jab at the other side, suddenly the whole discussion is "childish". And another thing: Many people in Coweta make every effort to avoid going into or through PTC for any reason whatsoever because PTC is such a mess. I remember when the intersection of 74 and 54 had nothing but Hi-Brand Foods on one corner and woods on the other three corners. Now it's one big mess. I remember when PTC was nothing; look what all the wonderful planning has done there!

That my friend is a fact. Bullsborough is a helicopter friendly zone between 3-7 PM daily.

Submitted by MWF on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 9:19pm.

...not Bullsborough. Let's face it, there is traffic everywhere. Ever been to Gwinnett County???

Submitted by johenry on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 9:41pm.

Guess why we moved from Gwinnett County? Peachtree City and Newnan used to be special. I agree that 74 & 54 is a mess.

Coweta County is slitting it's own throat and they are taking us with them.

I don't think anyone is complaining about shopping. The complaint is about one county paying for a road so that another county can cut through to a major Highway. This is especially irritating when coewta already has several roads that go to I85. All they have to do is widen them.

Did anyone else see the AJC article today about the 18 worst bridges in GA? One was from Fayette (Brooks) but Fayette had 16 on the list of structurally deficient or functionally obsolete bridges. Don't want to be an alarmist, but if you cross bridges here daily you may want to take a look at the related link on the article to check if yours is on it. I cross the Kedron Peachtree Parkway bridge almost daily and was surprised it's on the list, along with a few others I cross regularly. All this extra traffic in the county is only going to tax these bridges that much more. Look at the list and you'll probably be surprised what bridges are on it. If anyone know anything about what may be being done to them to make them safer please post.

Maybe Tyrone can make 74 a toll road and collect money from all the PTC residents passing through to cover the cost of lawsuits and outside attorneys!

Submitted by Jones on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 3:10pm.

What do you mean there's nothing we can do to stop the growth??

All of that property on Fisher Road was REZONED. A choice was made by the Coweta folks, and their choice was build it HUGE.

When gapeach_rits is sitting in Bullsboro-style traffic all over Coweta County, he/she will be saying it's ridiculous and move somewhere else. Some of us would like to stay.

How old are these people that are posting? My pre-schooler acts more mature. Grow up. Don't you think there are more important things in this world to debate than who can go in whose county?

were never spoken! This is the state of GEORGIA. It's not a town or county thing. We're all in this together to help our state grow and prosper. I've lived in the metro area now for over 25 years and spend my dollars (what few I have!) everywhere. Let's just ensure that we continue growing sensibly.

Submitted by Jones on Fri, 08/03/2007 - 3:11pm.

Is Coweta growing sensibly? Not in my book.

Probably older than you. Perhaps you are not aware of the long-time bashing of Coweta County by PTC people on this website. We just couldn't resist poking back a little. Some people have no sense of humor; so sad! Now, hop on back to your little rabbit hole!

You have to be able to take it. Like I said earlier, people just need to get along.

But, I would think they (Coweta residents) could see the difference in having a development built on an existing 4 Lane State Highway, than building a 2000+ unit residential development and then asking another County to provide 4 lane connector road access for them.

Coweta is obviously asking for traffic, they more things they approve, the worse it will get. 34 around I-85 is basically unbearable at times.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 8:07am.

I understand Coweta's attitude on the bridge and road. At one time we needed a way around 54/74 intersection. So, now that we don't want it they think it is because Coweta is also growing and we don't like it.
We don't need the traffic and they need the road. We of course, would use the road but would prefer to do without it.
The answer lies in the design of the roads. If done correctly (over and underpasses around town, and 54/74 jacked up on overpass) then there would be no problem. It will cost much more but it will be done someday as a necessity.
That is why we spend twice as much on the same roads as we need to do, and have forever.
For instance, when the Interstates were built there should have been two of them: one for trucks and one for the public. Too late now unless we spend twice as much.
They really belong to the federal government anyway in time of war, so we needed two anyway.
Leaders being short-sighted and taxpayers not caring about the future and maybe wouldn't listen to a leader anyway, cause the problem.

Sorry folks, this movie theater and Sam's club will be located in Coweta county... as you know you don't want us coming into your county to commute to work in Atlanta, or come to see your fireworks, or as one poster even asked that we not come to any of your concerts at the Fred..... so I ask on behalf of cowetans everywhere , Please stay away, we don't want you ......

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 5:21pm.

Is Coweta purposely not cutting the grass on the new 54 then onto the 34 4 lane between the Fayette County line and west toward Newnan? I'll say this, it's quite easy to find the County line now. Just look for the weeds going west.

2ndly, the Georgia Bone & Joint folks in the Summit Building are nice people. I've had some business there lately, and the difference in road upkeep between the Counties is beyond obvious. I'm curious from the Coweta's folks point of view, why are they are letting this roadway get so out of hand? I had high hopes for this road, thought it could be a very nice looking route, but it seems Coweta doesn't care to maintain it.

Submitted by skyspy on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 4:31pm.

You know what the difference is? If we go to your theater or sam's club, we will actually BE PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!! Not freeloaders!

Now 6 lane Fishcer Rd and run your own traffic up to I85.

Submitted by andrew on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 6:47pm.

You seem to not get the point, the whole point of the post is to point out how greedy, and selfish peachtree city comes across to people... you are certainly more than welcome to visit our great county, and visit all of our businesses you want... we welcome everyone, if you want to come see one of our parades we would love that ( we wont check your car tags), if you want to come see our fireworks , thats great also (again no counting the tags)... coweta doesn't have the money that fayette county has, but we can still have fun, and love for people to come and have fun with us....

Submitted by skyspy on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 8:23pm.

So Peachtree City folks are greedy............because they don't want to pay for a road for another county???? Huh?! Ok, call me greedy. I don't want to pay for someone else's free lunch. I'm greedy, you got me. I don't want to pay for someone else. That's the way I am.

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Wed, 08/01/2007 - 6:10pm.

Coweta is getting ready to deluge them in traffic.

I wish we could all just get along. Fayette/Coweta folks got at each other recently on here mainly due to the new McIntosh Village, that was going to connect directly into the heart of PTC. You would have to say, that even Coweta overreached on this one. When the nearest state road is in another County, and across a large creek, where a road doesn't even exist, they might have just made a mistake.

Submitted by JJsMom on Wed, 08/01/2007 - 6:39pm.

I think Fischer will get more traffic, but don't you think most impacted will be 34 and 54? Hwy. 154 will bring most traffic from across I85 and hit Hwy. 34 and Hwy. 54 will get traffic from PTC and the new McIntosh subdivision. There are so many side roads leading into Hwy. 34. Since Northgate is on Fischer people will try to avoid all the school traffic if they can.

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Wed, 08/01/2007 - 7:41pm.

I kind of hope they will put in a golf cart path. I wouldn't mind being able to get to the movies on my cart.

Submitted by andrew on Wed, 08/01/2007 - 7:53pm.

You can have the bridge as long as Peachtree city pays for it.... also we will require that the bridge be wide enough for two lanes.... i will be checking when i go to make sure that there are not too many fayette county tags in the parking lot.... hey folks we cowetans have enough traffic on our side of the creek... we really don't and can't have too many fayette folks coming on our side of the creek... also we will not allow Peachtree city citizens to reserve seats in the theater.... if you want a seat you must remain in your seat... i know this will be hard on ya'll but it is our county

Submitted by MWF on Wed, 08/01/2007 - 8:19pm.

Andrew, couldn't have said it better! Gotta luv ya, whoever you are! Let's not let the Fayette County residents forget about the "Great Wall" they put up between Fayette and Coweta! They have posted comments in the past about the nice and clean Georgian Cinemas in Newnan; wondered what they were doing "on the other side".
