Tail of two citiesI spelled it that way for a reason. The two cities are Peachtree City and Tyrone. The tail is obviously Tyrone - behind in every way from the attitude of its citizens (big lots are better and they keep out the riff raff) to the uninspired leadership and of course the Barry and Valerie problem. There is an election this fall and if two people run on a platform of getting Tyrone into the 20th century (you can work on the 21st later) then I believe the town can be saved. The first step is getting a mayor and council with vision and a will to suceed - rather than just business as usual. The staff obviously needs replacing and that is an opportunity to get some real professionals in there and apply for serious grant money and get the zoning straightened out and workable. Zoning and land planning exist to protect everyone in town - not to create a police state with a gotcha mentality. Get it right folks. Some of you new people in Tyrone must wonder what is going on and why things can't be better. Step up and run for office. Not only will you learn a lot about the town - you may make a difference. If nothing else you will force the incompetent incumbents to address issues that they have been able to ignore for years. Tyrone is not a suburb of Peachtree City or Fairburn, although it will be if your leadership doesn't get control of things quickly. Tyrone can be a wonderful town, just the right size in a terrific location. Get involved - especially you new people in Wieland's subdivision. This is the year that the old guard can begin to be replaced and in two more years you will be well on your way to becoming a viable town. mudcat's blog | login to post comments |
