Is county defaulting to Krakeel as chief?Tue, 07/31/2007 - 4:23pm

While applications continue to trickle in for the vacant county attorney’s position, the number of applications for the county administrator’s position is zero. The reason is that more than three months after the County Commission voted to remove Chris Venice from her position as county administrator, the county has not placed any ads looking for an administrator. The situation worries Commissioner Peter Pfeifer, who said Thursday night the “county needs to hurry up and do something.” Pfeifer also suggested the recent purge of attorney Bill McNally, Venice and the resignations of water committee members Chuck Watkins and George Patton could hurt the county’s exceptional water service. The rest of the County Commission remained silent, except for Commissioner Herb Frady, who thanked Water Director Tony Parrott for his 30 years of service to the county. Executive Assistant Carol Chandler said the county’s staff has not received direction from the County Commission on running an ad for the administrator’s position. In the meantime, interim County Administrator Jack Krakeel just guided the county through the budget process and will aid in the county’s retreat next week. Chandler did confirm the county has received a few applications for the vacant attorney’s position, but did not know how much longer the ad would be running. The ad is running in The Citizen and on the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia website. The ad calls for a law degree, membership in the Georgia State Bar and “thorough experience as legal counsel in an governmental environment.” McNally’s more than two decade tenure with the county ended yesterday. login to post comments |
