By 2030, 75% of the budget will be entitlements.

From 2005 to 2030, the 65-and-over population will nearly double to 71 million; its share of the population will rise to 20 percent from 12 percent. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid—programs that serve older people—already exceed 40 percent of the $2.7 trillion federal budget. By 2030, their share could hit 75 percent of the present budget, projects the Congressional Budget Office.

Any thoughts?

"Che! You've Got To Hide Your Love Away"

The rising number of Che Guevara t-shirts among UNCW students reflects a profound ignorance of his life and his true legacy. I think that building a Guevara Memorial in the center of campus would go a long way towards remedying this kind of ignorance.

I would propose that we model his memorial after Thomas Jefferson's. Following that plan, we could carve some of his most revealing quotes into the walls of the memorial for all to see. Some suggestions follow:

"A revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate." Che Guevara.

I came right out of college and worked for 34 years, left a child crying in daycare for their parent, went to work sick, tired, depressed, and when I just plain didn't want to. I'v never drawn one unemployment check, disability, welfare etc in my life. I have however, paid for countless families on wellfair, seen my insurance go up cause I'm paying for everyone at Grady who won't. Watched hordes of illegals come in and get more fed tax dollars than I ever will in my very few years I ..will...be able to draw something after 65... I come from people who have given ancestors in the Rev war, War of 1812, the war of Northern aggression, [on the RIGHT side!], world war I and II, and you don't think ...I..DESERVE ...WHAT PATHEDIC ..LITTLE I'M GONNA GET? Okay- I have no idea what college you attended; however, in addition to spelling, you probably should have been taking some investing classes so you would have known to invest in a 401k and a 403b (at minimum) since many government programs may not be solvent in your 'golden' years.

Social Security was never meant to be a retirement system. It was designed to be a supplement. Best of luck in your retirement. I hope dollar can find another proof reader for his book.

Well, even though they did go off 3-4 years to whip the axis of evil in Europe and Asia, maybe we don't owe them their social security!
They shouldn't have gone, like Cheney and Bush and most of the others in this administration. Then they could have stayed home, had their kids in a proper order so as not to pile them up later, and we would be ok.
Or, we could do "Soylent Green" on them---just for a few years so as to catch up with the budget!
Or, we could just pay it and shut up! Same way we do Iraq.
