The Battle of the Network Avatars

TonyF's picture

There are some very interesting people on this site, with some equally interesting avatars. Whose do you think is best? Cast a vote and lets see who takes the prize. Maybe the Citizen could come up with something. Maybe a front page mention or some other "award"

Well, I don't know about a battle of the avatars. How about a battle of the bands?

Quiz: My new avatar is taken from the inside cover of an LP that was released about a year before the album that is your avatar. Name the LP.

is it "back in '72" or "smokin OPS"?

This character is from the inside cover of the Allman Brothers Band, Eat a Peach--my favorite LP of all time.

The album was in production when Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident in Macon. Several of the cuts include Duane's remarkable slide and lead guitar (e.g., "Mountain Jam," "Blue Sky") as well as the only song Duane ever wrote--"Little Martha," ironically named for a little girl buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, where Duane also was soon laid to rest.

Not real crazy about the Allmans either. I do however, count "one way out" among my favorites.

As I said, one year before Dark Side of the Moon.

"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older. Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."

What a cheery thought.

There are several parities so I assume it's one of those. Here Mr. Polyanna, I bet you like this one....it's right up your alley. Cool

"Breathe, breathe in the air.
Don't be afraid to care.
Leave but don't leave me.
Look around and choose your own ground.

Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.

Run, rabbit run.
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to dig another one.

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave."

Good stuff muddle..... you must admit.

Floyd lyrics how about these from "The great gig in the sky"? (my all time Floyd favorite)
(spoken) "I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it. We've all got to go sometime."
As an aside: Paul McCartney was asked to speak these lines, as the album was being produced at Abbey Road, but he was unable due to prior commitments. Cool, huh?
