Last vote was against study of pay hike for council members

Judi-ann Rutherford’s last vote as a member of the Peachtree City Council was a no vote against the exploration of increasing salaries for city council members.

Rutherford announced at the very end of tonight’s meeting that she was resigning effective July 31 to move to Holland. She told The Citizen that she is moving there to be with her husband, who relocated there nine months ago for his job.

Incidentally, the measure to explore salary increases for council members passed 4-1. But Rutherford’s announcement stole the show, as she first thanked city staff for their hard work during her three and a half year tenure.

After her announcement, Councilman Stuart Kourajian thanked Rutherford for her service, and the small crowd of citizens who stayed right up to the 11 p.m.-ish end of the meeting broke out in a standing ovation in appreciation of Rutherford.

During the break after the open session before council convened in executive session, Rutherford wiped a few tears from her eyes. Judging by the reaction from her fellow council members, Rutherford kept a pretty good secret: it appeared that all four were caught by surprise.

When someone asked what the process would be to fill Rutherford’s seat, which is up for grabs in the November election, City Manager Bernie McMullen said he was too stunned to be able to recall the process off the top of his head.

i never said anyting about her moving to Holland to avoid an election HELLO! i said she doesn't give a blank blank about the raise b/c she is leaving...she won't be getting paid the new "salary" WAKE UP! and Steve Brown is way to proud a man to lower himself to councilman from mayor. Do Presidents go on to serve in Congress? i don't think so AWAKE YET? Who is stupid now??? If I didn't deserve a response then why did you respond? DuhDuhDuhhhh

I'm surprised they didn't wait until 3am like our fine people in congress.

why did she votes against the raise? she doesn't care because she is leaving...simple as that. she also recognizes that there is an overwheliming public backlash coming and she wants to end on a positive note. what this city needs are good candidates who want the job in order to better a city they truly care about not those who are greedy for money and power.

Judi Rutherford was the only councilman who had the guts to stand up to the runaway mayor. It should come as no surprise she voted against the ridiculous pay raise crap. Stuart Kourajian and Steve Boone act like frightened children. Cyndi Plunkett is a ditsy bleached blonde.

The only person who has dared to oppose Mayor Logsdon is Judi Rutherford. What now?

Sorry she is moving. She served our city well and she will be missed.
Some of you have questions. I'll address them one at a time.

Bernie
Sorry you are stunned, but the process is an election in November. Her seat was up anyway. It is too late for a special election. All this really means is will the Mayor appoint someone to serve the rest of her term - I'm guessing no he will not. Or if he does it will be Allison Chambers (that's a joke folks).
Lay off the liquor before the meetings, dude.

You are just plain stupid and don't deserve a response. Moving to Holland to avoid an election in PTC? Dope.

Doug
What now, you ask? Steve Brown of course. He'll have to compete in a normal election instead of a specially-called one and of course he will lose. Imagine if Judi had resigned a month or 2 before and there was a special election. Brown clown could have gotten back in again. The 12 people that support him would outvote the sane, but uninvoled voters who don't care. Maybe Judi waited until now to announce because she knows all this. In fact, I may be Judi. Did you all ever think of that?

So, do you like my new picture? meow

Boy, you really don't like me do you, mudcat? What did I ever do to you?

You must be someone I ran against or a friend of someone I ran against.
