Brandon Collins, a rising freshman at Whitewater High School, joined the SouthSide Pioneers late in this summer season. When he went to the track to practice, Jordan Scales, one of Collins' teammates from WhiteWater Middle School Championship Track Team, who told Collins about the Pioneers, asked Coach Mathis what she thought of Collins. Simply put, Mathis said: "He is going to break a national record this summer somewhere!" Well, that's exactly what happened last weekend at the 2007 AAU National Club Championship Track & Field Meet in Orlando, FL. Collins broke the old record and set a new record in the Youth Boys 100M with a time of 11.22 to take the gold medal! He is slated to compete at the 2007 AAU Junior Olympics at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN later this month along with the team's Young Men composed of Michael DeHaven, Hughston Taylor, Brendan Fludd, Vince Brown, and Chris Pigue. Collins will also compete in the 200M in an attempt to set a new national record in that event as well. The Pioneers will compete at the 2007 Georgia Games in Marietta July 20-21 at Marietta HS and at the 2007 State Games of America at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO on August 4 to finish up its 2007 summer season. login to post comments |
