Southside Pioneers, Brandon Collins

Brandon Collins, a rising freshman at Whitewater High School, joined the SouthSide Pioneers late in this summer season. When he went to the track to practice, Jordan Scales, one of Collins' teammates from WhiteWater Middle School Championship Track Team, who told Collins about the Pioneers, asked Coach Mathis what she thought of Collins.

Simply put, Mathis said: "He is going to break a national record this summer somewhere!" Well, that's exactly what happened last weekend at the 2007 AAU National Club Championship Track & Field Meet in Orlando, FL.

Collins broke the old record and set a new record in the Youth Boys 100M with a time of 11.22 to take the gold medal! He is slated to compete at the 2007 AAU Junior Olympics at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN later this month along with the team's Young Men composed of Michael DeHaven, Hughston Taylor, Brendan Fludd, Vince Brown, and Chris Pigue.

Collins will also compete in the 200M in an attempt to set a new national record in that event as well.

The Pioneers will compete at the 2007 Georgia Games in Marietta July 20-21 at Marietta HS and at the 2007 State Games of America at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO on August 4 to finish up its 2007 summer season.

It looks like we are going to have a very football team at Whitewater High School again this year.

Fayette County and McIntosh are supposed to be greatly improved as well.

The very football team may occur, but it hasn't in the 23 years I have been here.
I see nothing wrong with poor football teams as long as the grades are good.

McIntosh Footballs problem is the parents. The parents wussify these kids and the coaches/staff are under the thumb of these controlling parents. They can't get any worse can they as they didn't win one football game last school year.

There are a couple of young men on my street who play for McIntosh, they are doing their best. I've met with the new AD at McIntosh, and he too is doing his best. If you saw any of their games last year, you would know they were in many of them.

Saying things couldn't get worse is being short sighted to me, it could be worse, they could have zero effort and zero designs on remedying the situation. That's not the case.

He's a good man. He was the kicker at Alabama when they won a championship. I also know Steve and have for 'many years'. He's a winner but he also realizes that they have less to work with in some cases than Whitewater (but higher test scores). Trust him, he is a good man. I was very proud of the kids from McIntosh that hung in last year and played hard every week. McIntosh, Fayette, and Starr's Mill have all gone through the loss of kids during re-districting. Give them time. All of the kids at Sandy Creek, FCHS, WHS, SMHS, MHS, are top notch and we are blessed.
