The Fayette County Branch of the NAACP along with the Fayette County Board of Education and the Theta Lambda Lambda Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity is sponsoring an event to encourage adult men and young men ages 14-18 to endeavor to reach extraordinary heights in school, society and in life as they stand and operate in the full image of God. The conference also encourages young men to strive for excellence in academics; and help build stronger relationships between younger men and their adult role models and mentors.

The "Second Annual Mighty Men of Valor Conference" conference will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Admission is $25.00 per person. A continental breakfast and lunch is included.

The conference is part of a "Back to School, Stay in School," national NAACP program designed to strengthen male youth and adult men of the Fayette community in their relationships, character development, and academic achievement.

The Mighty Men of Valor Conference includes a series of interactive workshops to enable discussion on various issues related to bridging the gap from youth to manhood. The conference also hopes to make a difference for older men who are active in the lives of the younger men.

All young men between the ages of 14 and 18 and adult males (fathers, uncles, and mentors) are encouraged to attend.

For event and registration information, please refer to the branch's website, www.fcnaacp.org or please contact Reverend Melvin Ware at 770-719-9238 or mmov@fcnaacp.org.

It has pictures of me and some catch phrases. It does all the parenting for me while I'm gone. My son's parole officer and my daughter's daughter's DHS worker will attest to that.

God? Tax money for the NAACP to make 'men' be in the image of God?

"The "Second Annual Mighty Men of Valor Conference" conference ..." "The conference is part of a "Back to School, Stay in School," national NAACP program"

Our Local Tax money supports the national NAACP now?

I don't want our local school dollars supporting ANYTHING national (much less a racist liberal organization like the NAACP)Hello? School Board? Are you freaking kidding me?

My, that was a "sensitive" comment! Laughing out loud

Why can't the NAACP (& any other organization) have this event and use the organization's money to fund it? I thought that's what the donations are for. Puzzled

Wouldn't that be part of "Mighty Men of Valor" -- not taking other people's money (tax dollars) unless they give it to you (which is not the intended purpose of this tax)?

I wonder if B.O.N.D. (BROTHERHOOD ORGANIZATION OF A NEW DESTINY: Rebuilding the Family by Rebuilding the Man) could receive equal funding. Puzzled

What about Muslims who believe that they're meant to be bomb igniters -- Is there any funding for their self-actualization?

I wonder if the NAACP program included the parents -- both mothers and fathers.

I wonder why a church didn't sponsor this event.

I wonder if Genarlow Wilson and his friends ever attended one of these.

I wonder if Rahim's mother and father attended . . . Puzzled
