Seems like the guy in LA misjudged his elevation and got way to high and about lost it. Guess we'll have to look into that. Good ole American ingenuity. You gotta love it.

Yep, his name was Larry Walters. Lifted off from San Pedro 7/2/1982 and got to 16,000 feet high enough where an airliner reported him to the FAA. He landed just north of Long Beach. He paid a $1,500 fine.
