As of Friday, June 22, the Georgia Department of Transportation has closed the multi-use path crossing Highway 74 at Willow and Paschall Road to golf carts.

The path parallel to Highway 74 from Paschall Road to the Post Office will also be closed for construction.

The closing is necessary as the DOT begins shifting lanes to install the pedestrian tunnel under Highway 74 from Willow to Paschall Road.

The crossing will be closed to golf carts for several months, severely limiting golf cart access to The Avenue, the Post Office, and businesses in that area.

Golf cart drivers who choose to access The Avenue via the tunnel at Kelly Drive should use extreme caution on Dividend Drive and crossing the railroad tracks at Paschall Road due to the lack of a separate, signalized railroad crossing for golf carts in this area.

While it wouldn't solve all the problem of closing this path, opening the bridge over the railroad tracks next to Best Buy would alleviate some of the traffic that will be redirected down Dividend. I know that it is not entirely within PTC's power to utilize this bridge, but something needs to be done, because it's sitting there, unused and especially right now, could be very beneficial.

Is the GDOT's fault? or the Feds fault? Or the City's fault? I don't understand how someone could say we need a permit for a bridge that has been on the road plans since the widening was started. Someone has dropped the ball somewhere.

Just finish it, connect the paths, and let's get to using it.
