Should the unincorporated portions of Fayette County form new cities?

After reading Ben Nelms article on the new cities of Fulton, I have been wondering whether residents of Fayette County outside city limits should be considering the same thing.

In the 20 years I have lived here, I have watched with alarm as the development continues at what is regarded by many as a slow pace. Yet every year we face greater traffic, worse roads, worsening air quality, less water, and the adverse social consequences of crowding and mass culture.

Many blame the greed of large developers and landowners but I think the problem has more to do with our single minded focus on low taxes. The County Commissioners are naturally concerned to expand the tax base so that residential taxes can remain low on average. But the quality of small town life that most of us came here for is rapidly becoming just another example of suburban sprawl.

If we want to live in small towns, perhaps it is time we created some and be ready to pay for the quality of life we want.

Ben, what do you think? Anyone else out there think this is a good idea?

The whole center of the county will soon be in Fayetteville anyway. There won't be anything left to form into a city except North Fayette.

Well let's think about that.
How about We form one from Evander's house to 314 and call it Evander Town?
Then we could form one from PTC line south, through Brooks (annexing Brooks), and call it Starr's Mill City.
The area from Fayetteville south, to Goza, then east, could be SamsGozaRedwine Territory, or RGS City.
Then we wouldn't need a County Police force except for the Sheriff to run the jail and serve warrants!
May not even need a County School System...wow, look at all that money.
Oh, and build a fence at the Clayton border!
