Cart path to close Friday

Starting Friday, the cart path crossing over Ga. Highway 74 at Willow and Paschall roads will be closed for several months to accommodate construction, officials have said.

The crossing provides access to The Avenue shopping center and the city's post office.

Golf cart drivers will be able to use a tunnel under Hwy. 74 at Kelly Drive, but that will involve driving carts on Dividend Drive and across the railroad tracks at Paschall Road. Anyone using that detour should use extreme caution, city officials urge.

The closing is necessary as construction crews begin shifting lanes to install the new tunnel under the highway for Willow and Paschall roads.

This is great news for Peachtree City! Another cart tunnel under Highway 74, especially at this location is much needed. I cringe when I see carts dart across Highway 74 or 54 - even at the stop lights.

It would be wise for the city to extend the cart path that currently runs to Peachtree Villas so it will connect to the path on Willow Road and the new tunnel.

I've seen the future path construction plan on PTC's website and wonder when the city will build the tunnel under Highway 74 between Marketplace and Westpark. If cart access to those shopping areas were improved, I believe we could reduce some of the traffic at 54 and 74.

I believe there is supposed to be a tunnel built with the road widening, although, I doubt the DOT will allow us to use it, because of all the damage done to the "air" by our Golf Carts. I assume that is still the hold up on the bridge over the RR Tracks adjoining 54 West and also the tunnels going to waste under 54 West.
