BROWNOUT - The Final Analysis

Well, ladies and gentlemen. The people have spoken. They want Steve Brown gone.

Gone, but not forgotten.

Let's review the good things that have happened in the past four years. I'll open it up to you, my fellow bloggers. Please share your memories of the Brown Administration and the many blessings he has shared with the community. Let's honor the valiant efforts of a pioneer of progress in our wonderful town.

Man, gotta stop drinking that Nyquil.

Honestly, Brown wasn't ALL bad. The town is still here, and we're still all mostly doing okay, so for that we can be grateful. The future now is up to all of us, under the leadership of a new "head cheerleader".

Congratulations, Harold. Don't make us forget what we've done tonight.

Good luck to you, Steve. Hope your run for County Commission goes well.

Don't forget:

$825,000 piece of property
$50,000 "investigation" of the DAPC
$27,000 + For Rapsons Ethics Violation (oops that was Rapson)
TWO Ethics violations (those are Stevies)
Major Lawsuit over DAPC (we'll see how that plays out)
$106,000 Assistant City Manager
And my personal favorite, An Annexation package with Wieland resuliting in lifting of the Annexation Moratorium. Wonder what Wieland promised "Citizen" Brown in payment for that "gem?"

Hey, I just figured out, now he really WILL be just "citizen" Brown. Think Wieland will still work with him over annexation?

Enough for now. Anyone else? Oh, let's not forget our broken relations with so many surrounding communities.

You'll remember that the minute 5 candidates lined up to run against Brown, Wieland stopped everything. He knew January 2006 was going to be the best month in the city's history and the right enviornment for an annexation proposal - maybe a legal one this time since the new leadership will certainly listen to the city attorney, lift the moratorium and get staff working on the proposal.

I agree. If it's going to be done it needs to be done right. And as RobertMorgan said, with a bridge and NOT an at grade crossing. That will be a traffic nightmare. Ironically it was Browns solo actions that caused the moratorium to be lifted. Now we can have reasonable people analyze the idea, if presented, do it legally, and do it right. Brown was such a "dictator" that he would fight and fight to get his own way.
Wow, I just realized I mentioned Brown in the past tense! Boy does that feel good!

Yes sir, but let's be sure the annexation proposal is the complete one - not the one Brown proposed that puts school buses on the surface crossing of the railroad. The whole thing needs to be done and done correctly with a bridge - paid for by the developers. Unfortunately, city staff is smaller now that Clyde Strickland has left. He would have been the perfect one to head up the planning of that area.

Right you are dude! Clyde wasn't much of a loss, Rast can handle it.

No, Clyde was ok, but he's gone. Let's see Harold take the opportunity to do something innovative with staffing.

1. Fire the city manager and the useless assistant city manager (meaning the position is useless, not the person).
2. Hire Jim Willams back as city manager.
3. Promote David Rast to head that department and give him a well-deserved raise, which should have been done 2 years ago.
4. Hire Mike Lorber and Jerry Peterson as consultants to work as needed on annexation planning and special projects.

Those 3 salaries (Clyde's, Bernie's and Colin's) are almost $300,000, so you could have $ left over and have the most talented planning staff anywhere.

Go for it Harold. Replace the city attorney while you're at it.

Yes, mudcat, that's clever - maybe you should be city manager. I think I know who you are and having a woman running the city would be a huge improvement. It is certainly going to be great having 2 women on council.
