Immigration bill leads to breakdown of U.S.

By: Letters to the ...

I sent this email to the two Georgia senators and our local congressman.

I am adamantly opposed to the so-called “comprehensive” immigration bill now being rushed through the Senate.

“Comprehensive” here translates to just more of the Bush-brand of “baffle them with a lot of bunk while catering to our fellow corporate mogul supporters” malarkey that “we the people” have been fed through Dubya’s reign.

Shades of the Reagan crowd and their amnesty legislation that just increased the velocity and volume of the Mexican invasion. Why should we trust the federal government to do any different this time?

I realize that most of you in the Congress are probably guilty law-breakers yourselves for having employed/exploited illegal aliens for years, maybe for generations now. But, by not facing up to that and dismantling the “Mexican horse” while we still can, you are contributing to the demise of our English-based culture/society/heritage as surely as if we had lost World War II or the Cold War.

You are contributing to the breakdown of our society by setting an example for those whose disdain for our laws grows and grows. Either we are truly a “nation of laws” or we aren’t; there is no in-between. At present, we apparently aren’t.

Close the borders, stop the Mexican invasion, put employers who exploit illegal aliens (knowingly or otherwise) in jail, create a fool-proof database to track immigrants who are here legally and stop indulging those who commit fraud to gain employment, and, in short, enforce the laws you and your corporate supporters have long circumvented.

Don’t pass any new legislation that is not either plugging loopholes in or strengthening enforcement of our rules that honest folks have been following for years.

You are sworn to defend this nation, not turn it into the Northern Province of Mexico. I feel that any elected official openly condoning or excusing this Mexican invasion is bordering on treason, period.

Everybody I know is prepared to even vote for a Democrat rather than reelect those of you who vote for this amnesty bill. You’ve squandered years of majority in both houses when you could have repented and fixed the problem! Remember the Alamo!

And don’t you dare insult me with a form letter reply that just repeats the lame, Bush-bunk reasoning given in your recent speeches and press propaganda. Face the music and fix the problem.

Al Camp

what ever politicans Mr Camp sent the letters to...will never take the time to answer him. Just the same as they would do the rest of us.

What will their loss of office change? Will the employers of illegal immigrants stop hiring them? Will the makers of fraudulent 'green' cards stop making them? We have to take off our blinders - and realize that these people are not coming to this country for the water! They are coming to work and send money home to their families who are in dire straits of poverty! Let's get to the bottom of the problem. There are Americans who would do the jobs offered to illegals if they were paid at least minimum wage or better!

I think the real solution is not building a big wall or going after politicians who favor amnesty, it's prosecuting businesses and individuals who hire illegals. If the illegals could not find work here, the problem would go away, wall or no wall. By the way, I'm against amnesty. My dad came to this country legally and jumped through all the hoops that were required, and so did millions of other immigrants. Why should we not hold the Mexicans to the same rules as everybody else?

Gump and Davidsmom. Prosecute the people who hire the illegals.

One of my best friends did everything right when she came here.
She is a legal American and very proud of it! Smiling

Then you need to vote for someone who will do that, which will not be any republican!

Millions of people are waiting in line to get into this country legally, it is wrong to put people in front of them that broke the law to get here. Being in Construction - roofing, framing, siding - for twenty years, I can say that I have worked with many, many Mexicans, both legal and illegal. My experience is that these are great people to work with, I would hire a legal Mexican over most natural-born Americans any day. They are polite, hard working, family oriented people. Now, an interesting point, this only applies to what's called first-generation Mexicans (those that were born in Mexico), by the second or third generation of births in America, they tend to be just as lazy as any other natural born citizen. That being said, most Mexicans I have worked with that came here legally also get upset by any talk of amnesty, they usually have family members waiting in the legal line.

Al Camp's letter to the editor is clearly racist. He says Mexican people are ruining our English-based culture/society/heritage. Actually, the United States has developed its own culture/society/heritage that is based on a melting pot of people from many nations around the globe. We are blessed as a country to have more cultural diversity than exists in most other nations. Does Mr. Camp dismiss the contributions to our nation made by the Americans of African origin? What about the Germans, the Greeks, the Chinese, the Vietnamese, etc.? What Mr. Camp doesn't seem to understand or accept is the culture (like language) constantly changes. The contributions of our Mexican brothers and sisters are enriching us as a country. If only we would open our eyes and hearts, we might see that Mexican people are reviving the values of hard work, family, honesty, integrity, and responsibility. We should welcome them with open arms.

"What Mr. Camp doesn't seem to understand or accept is the culture, (LIKE LANGUAGE?)constantly changes?" what rock did you crawl out from under? It was AGREED on back in the late 1700s to have one common language for the good of all, legally and socialy in the US! I would never..move.. to another county and then DEMAND citizenship and that the people there start printing everything in my native language. Then you go on to talk out of your butt about this county being a 'melting pot'..yeah in the sense that people melt/blend in. As in lose their old language etc, and assimilate. The idea use to be, for the better of one's self and the good of all. Most immigrants come to this county to do just that, and be a part...not stand out and demand everything here changes for them! If you pay attention to what each person is complaining about, the sum of most seems to be that their American God given rights are being trampled on by illegals and politicans for the all mighty buck! They are being sold outs and their wishes being disreguarded! What don't you understand? Racist? you are crazy!

Our jobs have been 'outsourced' to other countries where their citizens have learned English. Many citizens here are being denied job opportunities because they are NOT bilingual. We are the only country that does not value bilingualism. In the global market, a person who is bilingual is more marketable than one who isn't. What is going to happen to our children who are not being taught a foreign language? Americans must prepare to participate in the world economy and become bilingual - whether it is Vietnamese, Spanish, Italian, French, Indian, Farsi, whatever. Our intelligence service is sadly lacking because of the limited resource of agents who speak another language or are familiar with another culture. We have to 'trust' those who may not have allegiance to our values - but speak two languages. Correcting the illegal situation will not solve all of our problems in being a leader in the world economy. To be proud of who you are and your culture - and be able to communicate with another who is of a different culture should be the goal of an educated person. If America is to remain a true leader of the world, this goal is a must! Solving 'racism' is just the tip of the ice burg

Nada! They are being 'outsourced' to India cause some VIP gets a biger bonus at the end of the year for doing so. It is about corporate greed. Delta, case in point, sent their calls to India, they got a zillion complaints from customers, after a while, the customers gave up complaining and then just went away. For 'saving the co money' a VIP got a bonus for that fiasco. All the complaints were ignored and Delta's customer service hit rocK bottom, only after seeing that $1.00 an hour help ...they weren't getting help KEEPING customers...they were really paying them to RUN THEM OFF! was Delta able to grasp the idea and start hiring people in smaller towns like Huntsville Ga to work in res. I know cause I am a retiree. After all these years n wise guys, they have gone back to doing what they did when the company was started. Hiring Southerners with manners from poorer areas to do an honest days work for an honest days pay. Both sides win. As far as us learning a language, it may suprise you to know that to graduate from high school, you now have to have 3 years of a foreign language. Before highshool, my kid who is in public schools, was taught, Japanese, German, and French.

I'm glad to hear that in Georgia a high school graduate has to take 3 years of a foreign language! Hmmmm - why such a low percentage of Georgia public students graduating from high school as reported by the AJC recently? Glad to hear Delta 'wised up'.

Sure, bilingualism plays a small part, but so does cheap labor. In school, I was pursuing a degree programming, until I discovered my competition. In India, Programmers with Masters degrees are working for 2-3 dollars an hour, good money in India. I can not compete with overseas labor that cheap, especially with a product that is so easily shipped overseas and back - all you need is a phone line. So, even if we had more bilingual people in America willing to answer phones, could they really compete with those in India who answer phones for less than a buck an hour?
You can not convince of any real lack of bilingual people here in America. In Fayette alone, I know of many, many people who moved here from other countries who speak English and their native language and understand their culture. However, due to our great capitalist system, they are more interested in working in the private sector where they can earn much more than working for some intelligence service.
A couple of countries are beginning to take over as leaders in the world economy, but I believe this is more due to our dual tax structure that is punishing companies who try to do global business from the U.S.
I am an educated person and my goal is get people to buy whatever I'm selling. I don't care whether I understand them or not, only that they buy. Besides, I've spent 37 years trying to understand just women and I haven't accomplished that yet.

you are being 'sold down river' by our politicians. The tax laws give these companies breaks to do this. Who re wrote the laws so India workers get a crack at your job? What I want to know is when all the jobs are sent to India and other countries, and the people here that WANT to work, can't find a job...who is going to have the money to support (taxes) the people on welfare ...and ....our fine government that sold us out?

Talk to me when whoever ownes the store next to La Hacienda on GA85 changes the name of the store. It's currently named "La Raza", which means "The Race"

Please share all of the words found on the Spanish sign on the aforementioned store. Do you read or understand Spanish? The sign is no more 'racist' than 'Chinese Food', African American Art' or English China.

Definitions of La raza on the Web:

La raza (Spanish: "The race") or "La raza mexicana" is a term which many Mexicans commonly use to denote mestizo ancestry. In the U.S. Census, many Mexican-Americans or Chicanos described themselves as "some other race" to express mestizo pride. Being "la raza" or mestizo does not necessarily mean that the person is of mixed white and Amerindian ancestry, but it is usually used as an indication of ethnical or cultural pride.

Is it racist to denote racial pride? Is identifying ones self as European American racist? My point was that the words in the sign are not racist - as you have agreed.

The point, which you so adroitly ignored, is that YOU are the racist when you choose to apply that label to others who merely make note of the absurdity of current realities regarding "racial pride". And no, I did not agree with your assessment that the sign was not racist, I merely quoted current definitions on "La Raza".

Yes, but one difference is that the current immigrants in question--ma ny here illegally--often show little evidence of the "melting pot" mentality. Their allegiance is elsewhere, and, rather than assimilate into the culture, they perpetuate their own. The staggeringly large number of latino immigrants who have been here for years but have not learned the language is just an example.

Arnold is right: they should turn off the Spanish television and at least learn to speak English.

In urban areas, the community colleges and night schools are filled with immigrants taking English classes and classes to prepare them for their citizenship test. Are such classes offered here in Fayette County? I listen to both Spanish and English newscasts to maintain my second language (Spanish) - learned in school. Listening to both broadcasts assists me in comprehending what the newscasters are saying. If one lived in Mexico - but was an English speaker, one would appreciate being able to stay current of world and local events by having the news broadcast in his native language. Learning a second language for conversational purposes is different than learning a language at a sufficient level for comprehension of complicated ideas.

What you may not understand is the great wisdom that was promulgated beginning with the Reagan administration, when they made the epithany that the USA workers were going through a major change. What with the invention of the personal computer it was realized that us anglo-saxons would hereforth and herafter punch computer keys for a living, or run banks and hospitals or work for the government, and that we needed millions of "workers" at a few dollars an hour for menial labor. No longer would most of us citizens climb on 125 degree roofs to work, pick cucumbers, peaches, cabbages, or carry a hod and bricks up a ladder. No longer would we cut grass, plant bushes, work in kitchens in restaurants, nail up home framing, dig ditches, paint houses, lay carpets, slaughter chickens and turkeys, and gather and sell pine straw.
But instead of announcing this policy and allowing all that we needed to come in from Mexico with a permit, and losing an election for doing it, we just let it happen illegally by not enforcing the border but just occasionally.
Those people knew what was good for us and I am eternally grateful. Have you ever worked on a roof or gathered pine straw? It is hell.
